
Bristol in Pictures: Bears win and the Bristol Half Marathon
It's the AJ Bell Big Bristol Run this weekend, with thousands of runners ready to take on the half marathon and 10k, but first it was the turn of the younger runners to show their skills on Saturday.While they were pounding the streets in the sunshine, tens of thousands of Bath and Bristol fans were turning Cardiff into a corner of the West for the big Premiership rugby derby.Another event drawing huge crowds this week has been the Badminton Horse Trials in South Gloucestershire.
Doing us proud: Some 1,000 younger runners got the weekend going as the first ever AJ Bell Great Bristol Run juniors and minis event wound its away around the city centre.
Bragging rights: It was a West takeover at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff on Saturday as the derby between Bristol and Bath crossed the Severn for a day. The Bears came out on top 36-14 in front of tens of thousands of fans.
Behind the team: Bristol City fans turned out in big numbers to back the side against Sheffield United in the play-off first leg at Ashton Gate on Thursday. Sadly for the hosts, a red card proved key in a 3-0 defeat.
Bird's eye view: A drone shot of the glorious surroundings just to the north east of Bristol where the Badminton Horse Trials were expected to attract 200,000 visitors this week.
Pedal power: One last look at the Bristol Drum & Bass On a Bike event which saw thousands of peoples pedalling from Ashton Gate to the city centre last Sunday.
New facility: More than 50 people gathered to see Roger Griffith MBE officially open the St Pauls Advice Centre's new office at the Junction 3 Library development.
Showtime: For fans of all things countryside, all roads led to the North Somerset Showground near Wraxall for the annual North Somerset Show, which was attended by thousands.
In the running: The new Chellaram Sports Complex at Clifton College Sports Ground has been shortlisted for a green award at the Education Property Awards 2025. The complex was built in a partnership between the college, Alec French Architects and Speller Metcafle.
New look: Post boxes in Bedminster have been given some attractive new knitted toppers to mark this year's Bedminster Secret Gardens open weekend, which will take place on 14 and 15 June. Community group Blooming Bedminster has coordinated the project which has seen woollen flowers, bugs, bees and even gnomes created.

'Manning will improve performances and results'

'Difficult' but 'right' decision to leave
Liam Manning has said it was "difficult" to leave Bristol City but that the "ambition" and "direction" at Norwich City was too good to turn down. Manning confirmed his departure last week after 18 months at the club, having led the Robins to the Championship play-offs this season for the first time in 17 his time at Ashton Gate, Manning took leave of absence in October 2024 following the death of his baby son Theo."Any move you make in this game is difficult, so in terms of the 18 months I had there it was successful and obviously a challenging time personally which creates a a level of affiliation and empathy with the people there," Manning told BBC Radio Norfolk during his first press conference as Canaries boss."But when we had the discussions (at Norwich) of what it looks like and the direction - knowing the club and the fanbase and the ambition here, it matches with me extremely well so it was a difficult decision but I'm sure it's the right one."

Gwalia United sign midfielder McGowan
Gwalia United have signed midfielder Bethan McGowan from Derby County, their first signing of the close came through the Arsenal Academy and has also had spells with Birmingham City and West Bromwich 21-year-old is a former Wales Under-19 international and joins Gwalia ahead of the upcoming FA Women's National League Premier Division season."Coming back to Wales and playing for a team with a clear plan and a real purpose just felt right.
