Suspects in Cyberjaya student murder case appear in Sepang court
SEPANG: Two suspects linked to the murder of a university student in Cyberjaya on June 24 appeared in Sepang Court on Thursday (July 10).
According to Sinar Harian, the male suspect, in a white T-shirt, and the female suspect, dressed in black, arrived in a multi-purpose vehicle at 8.55am.
Police ensured security as the handcuffed suspects entered the court to prevent any incidents.
Sepang OCPD ACP Norhizam Bahaman, announced that charges would be filed under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
Maniishapriet Kaur, a 20-year-old Bachelor of Physiotherapy student from Sarawak, was found dead in a condominium in Cyberjaya at 10am on June 24.

Illegal transactions: Sarawak jailed

Kota Kinabalu: A 40-year-old Sarawakian who is currently serving sentence for an offence related to mule account schemes, was jailed four years for dealing with unlawful transactions involving a sum of RM111,668 using his own bank account. Sessions Court Judge Amir Shah Amir Hassan meted out the sentence to Wilson Anak Penchen who pleaded guilty to the charge against him. Wilson had unlawfully involved directly in a transaction involving the money using his bank account at a financial institution between Dec 25, 2024 and Jan 7 this year at the Taska Mary Land in Penampang. The offence under Section 424C(1) of the Penal Code carries a jail term of between three and ten years, or a fine of between RM10,000 and RM150,000, or both, on conviction. In handing down the sentence, the court stated that he had taken into account the seriousness of the case and even though Wilson did not have any previous crime record but had caused loss to the complainant in the case. The court also added that the court wanted to send a message to the public to not involve in the mule account schemes. The court ordered Wilson to serve the jail sentence from the date of his conviction at the Puncak Borneo prison in Kuching, Sarawak as requested by Wilson. In asking for leniency during mitigation, Wilson, who was not represented, asked for the sentence to be served concurrently with his previous sentence. However, Deputy Public Prosecutor Bryan Francis urged the court to impose a heavy sentence as to give a lesson not only to Wilson but would-be offence adding that, do not compromise with anyone who involved in the commercial crime. Bryan informed the court Wilson was fined RM11,000 in default 15 months' jail for an offence related to mule account schemes, but he failed to pay the fine and served the 15 months' jail. About the money involved, Bryan told the court that the money was still frozen as it was related to ongoing investigation. The court heard that on Jan 26, 2024, the complainant had joined in an investment scheme offered through a Facebook advertisement by clicking on a link which then redirected to a WhatsApp application to communicate with an agent. The complainant joined the company and made a total of 53 transactions to increase business capital, reaching a total of RM2,173,814.50. One of the payment transactions was deposited into an account belonged to Wilson amounting to RM111,668. The complainant who felt that he was cheated as there were no profits and the agent continued to urge the complainant to make payments, then subsequently lodged a police report. Extra jail for also damaging sis' car

Kota Kinabalu: An unemployed man, who was recently jailed 12 months for assaulting his elder sister, was on Friday sentenced to another 14 months in jail and fined RM2,000, or two months jail by the Magistrate's Court for smashing the windscreen of his sister's car. Ridzuan Roslan, 29, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Dzul Elmy Yunus to committing mischief by smashing a helmet onto the front windscreen of a car belonging to his sister, Normala Roslan, 48, which caused RM550 in damages. The incident took place on April 27, this year, at 1pm, at the parking area of Cyber City Apartment in Penampang. The charge under Section 427 of the Penal Code carries a punishment of one to five years' imprisonment, a fine, or both, on conviction. The prosecution informed the court that a dispute between the siblings began when Normala told Ridzuan, her younger brother, to stop shouting inside the house. Ridzuan reacted aggressively by punching the victim on the right side of her head, choking her, and slamming her left arm against a metal grille door, said the prosecution, adding that the victim sustained bruises and injuries as a result of the attack. Ridzuan then ran outside to smash her red Proton Saga using a blue helmet, shattering its front windscreen. Dzul ordered Ridzuan to serve the sentence from the date of his arrest. On July 1, Ridzuan was sentenced to 12 months in jail by a Magistrate Court for assaulting Normala. Meanwhile, a 21-year-old woman was fined RM100 or three days in jail for having RM6,599 in her bank account that she could not explain. Noor Cahaya Yusuf pleaded guilty to having the money, dishonestly obtained from the account owner, Mohd Khairil Ikhwan Abdul Rahman, for which she failed to provide a reasonable explanation as to how she had obtained the money on March 31, 2024, here. She was charged under Section 22A(1) of the Minor Offences Ordinance (Chapter 80) of Sabah, which provides for a fine not exceeding RM100, a jail term of up to three months, or both. According to the prosecution, the victim had seen an advertisement for gold rings on Telegram and agreed to purchase two pieces. He made six separate transfers totalling RM6,599 into a Bank Simpanan Nasional account under Noor Cahaya's name for the purchase and delivery. However, the jewellery was never delivered, and he was later asked to make additional payments. Feeling cheated, he lodged a police report. Police probing Shila Amzah's assault claim
KUALA LUMPUR: An investigation is underway into a claim by singer Shila Amzah (pic), who alleged she was assaulted by a popular singer. Kuala Lumpur deputy police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad said police have recorded statements from two people. He said Shila, whose real name is Nurshahila Amir Amzah, lodged a report at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters here at 5.31pm on Thursday. 'So far, the individual alleged to have assaulted Shila has not been summoned, but efforts are underway to obtain a statement from the person involved. 'The case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code,' he told Bernama yesterday. On Thursday, the media reported that Shila claimed she was assaulted by a popular singer during a rehearsal session for a concert.
