An Air India Express spokesperson told ANI, 'Our Kolkata - Hindon flight operated, with a delay, due to a snag on the originally assigned aircraft. Guests were offered complimentary rescheduling or cancellation with a full refund. We regret the inconvenience.'
The airline did not specify the nature of the technical problem but ensured the flight operated after necessary arrangements were made.
Meanwhile, following a directive from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) mandating enhanced safety checks on Air India's Boeing 787-8 and 787-9 fleet, the airline on Saturday stated that inspections on nine out of its 33 Dreamliner aircraft had been completed. The remaining 24 aircraft are on track to be inspected within the timeline provided by the civil aviation regulator.
In a post on X, an Air India spokesperson stated that the safety inspections are being conducted as the 787 fleet returns to India, with each aircraft undergoing thorough evaluations before being cleared for its next operation.
The move came following the tragic crash of the London-bound AI171 flight that rammed into a doctors' hostel of BJ Medical College in the Meghani Nagar area in Gujarat's Ahmedabad seconds after it took off from the Sardar Vallabhai Patel International Airport on Thursday.
The DGCA on Friday directed Air India to immediately carry out the additional maintenance actions on its B787-8/9 aircraft equipped with Genx engines in coordination with the concerned regional DGCA offices.
'Air India is in the process of completing the one-time safety checks directed by the Indian aviation regulator, DGCA. These checks are being carried out on the Boeing 787 fleet as they return to India, before being cleared for their next operations. Air India has completed such checks on nine of the Boeing 787 aircraft and are on track to complete this process for the remaining 24 aircraft within the timeline provided by the regulator,' Air India stated.
Acknowledging potential disruptions, Air India warned that some checks might lead to increased turnaround times and possible delays, particularly on long-haul routes to airports with operating curfews. The airline has also offered e-funds on cancellations or complimentary rescheduling for those impacted by the disruptions.
'Some of these checks could lead to higher turnaround times and potential delays on certain long-haul routes, especially those to airports with operating curfews. Customers will be duly notified about any delays...For customers affected by this disruption, refunds on cancellation or complimentary rescheduling are being offered to those who opt for it,' the airline added.
As per the directive, Air India has been asked to conduct a few one-time checks before the departure of flights from India starting Sunday. The tests include inspection of Fuel Parameter Monitoring and associated system checks; inspection of cabin air compressor and associated systems; Electronic Engine Control System Test; Engine Fuel Driven Actuator-Operational Test and oil system check; serviceability check of Hydraulic system; and Review of Take-off parameters.
Besides, Air India has been asked to introduce 'Flight Control Inspection' in transit inspection till further notice.
Further, power assurance checks must be carried out within two weeks. DGCA has also asked the Tata Group-owned airline to close maintenance actions as soon as possible, based on the review of repetitive snags on B787-8/9 aircraft during the last 15 days.
The regulator told Air India that all the reports of these checks are to be submitted to the DGCA for review. (ANI)

According to preliminary information, 2 people have died in this incident. I pay my heartfelt tributes to them. We share the grief of their families,' the CM posted on X. Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition (LoP) and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi offered his 'heartfelt condolences' to the families of the deceased and hoped for the safety of those who still remain missing. Air India plane crash: A road trip dream hits deadend, reunion plan stamped out
'This is the last time you will be travelling alone'. These were the parting words of Alpa Soni to her husband Nishit Soni, who was exuberant as he embarked on his 'lifelong dream' of a road trip. The trip was meant to span 22,000 km from Ahmedabad to London, and touch 22 countries. 'From now on, I will accompany you on every trip, be it leisure or business,' 55-year-old Alpa had told Nishit while giving him a sendoff on April 1. For Nishit, as the roads gave way to new landscapes, diverse terrains, multifarious cultures and myriad people, his life came crashing down. On June 12, a day before his road trip was to culminate, flight AI 171 crashed within moments of taking off from Ahmedabad airport. Only one of the 242 passengers and crew on board survived. On the doomed flight were his wife, his younger brother Swapnil, 45 and Swapnil's wife Yoga, 44. If the flight had climbed out into the azure and cruised above the clouds and landed in London's Gatwick, Nitish, after fulfilling his dream trip on June 13, would have received a grand welcome from Alpa. He was her 'childhood sweetheart', Dipti, 60, the eldest of the four siblings, told The Indian Express. On Sunday, family and relatives had gathered at the house of the close knit business family of 14 in Ahmedabad's Bopal area. Yoga did the Everest base camp trek last month with her friends and planned to travel to France and Italy after returning from London,' Trupti said.

Chennai-bound British Airways flight returns to London after ‘technical snag'
A London-Chennai flight of British Airways operated by a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft returned to the airport of origin mid-flight due to a 'technical issue', the airline said. Lufthansa's Frankfurt-Hyderabad flight operated on a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner also returned to the airport of origin mid-flight following a bomb threat. 'The aircraft returned to Heathrow as a standard precaution after reports of a technical issue,' British Airways said in a press statement. 'The flight landed safely with crew and customers disembarking as they normally would, and our teams are working hard to get their journeys back on track as soon as possible,' the statement added. As per the data available with Flightradar24, flight BA35 took off from Heathrow Airport at 1.16 p.m. after a 36-minute delay. Data from the website shows that the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner circled over the Strait of Dover multiple times before returning to London's Heathrow Airport. In a separate incident, a Hyderabad-bound Lufthansa aircraft from Frankfurt returned to its base mid-flight following a bomb threat, prompting a full-scale security response. The flight, LH 752, operated by a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, departed Frankfurt Airport around 6 p.m. According to flight tracking data, the aircraft had been airborne for nearly two hours and was flying over Bulgarian airspace when it made a U-turn and was diverted back to Frankfurt. The aircraft had been scheduled to arrive at Hyderabad's Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) at approximately 1.20 a.m. on Monday (June 16, 2025). 'We checked with the airline and it has been confirmed that there was allegedly a bomb threat and that is why it was diverted,' an official at Hyderabad airport told The Hindu.
