In Wimbledon final, Jannik Sinner had to deal with Carlos Alcaraz — and a flying Champagne cork
Up 2-1 in the second set after dropping the first, the Italian was about to serve for a chance to win the game. But an ill-timed bottle pop from the crowd resulted in a cork landing on the court. Sinner stopped bouncing the tennis ball and took a few steps back. Alcaraz, across the net, threw his hands up in frustration.
Sinner picked up the cork and handed it to a ball girl, who sprinted off with the 2-inch disruption.
'Ladies and gentlemen,' the umpire said on the loudspeaker, 'as a courtesy to both players, please do not pop Champagne corks just as the players are about to serve.'
Sinner would go on to defeat Alcaraz in four sets to claim his first Wimbledon trophy. With Sunday's victory, Sinner has now won every Grand Slam except the French Open.
He was asked after the match about 'having to avoid a Champagne cork that came onto the court.'
Sinner said it's only happened at Wimbledon.
'But that's exactly why we love playing here,' he joked. 'It's a very expensive tournament.'
Sunday's Champagne incident wasn't the first time it occurred at Wimbledon this year. In the women's singles quarterfinal last Tuesday, a fan uncorked a bottle just as Anastasia Potapova was set to serve to Mirra Andreeva.
Earlier in the tournament, American star Amanda Anisimova squared off with Hungarian Dalma Galfi. Moments before tossing the ball for a serve, a cork popped in the crowd, causing her to be visibly upset and voice her displeasure.
The umpire reminded the crowd of the etiquette rules, prompting a broadcaster to say it was 'the most Wimbledon warning you've ever heard.'
Anisimova, who went on to make the women's singles final before falling in straight sets to Iga Swiatek, spoke after the match about the constant cork popping.
'I mean, it kept happening,' she told Reuters. 'At some point I was like, 'Can everybody just do it on the changeover?''
Wimbledon is the most prestigious tournament in tennis, an event that has taken place since 1877. Unlike other Grand Slams, there is a dress code for all competitors: all white. Fans at the All England Club must also follow stringent rules, one being the popping of bottles in the stands.
On the entry to the grounds, it's stated that 'all corked bottles, including bottles of champagne and sparkling wine, must be opened prior to being taken into the stands of any court.'

July 14 (Reuters) - The Welsh Rugby Union said on Monday its current system with four regional clubs was "financially unsustainable" as it announced formal talks aiming to restructure the domestic professional game by the 2027-28 season. The WRU cited a lack of on-field success as the primary reason behind it considering a "radical strategy" to improve the sport, saying the decision was taken after 18 months of extensive work, including consultation with the clubs and players. "The WRU Board has already publicly confirmed it does not see the system continuing with the current model of four equally funded regional clubs in the senior men's game," the WRU said in a statement. "The current rugby system in Wales, which includes national teams, professional clubs, community clubs, academies, universities and schools isn't delivering consistent success on the field and isn't currently financially sustainable given the likely investment required." Four professional clubs -- Cardiff Rugby, Scarlets, Ospreys and Dragons -- represent Wales in the United Rugby Championship. No Welsh side has won the competition since 2016-17. Cardiff, the largest of the four, entered administration in April after owners Helford Capital failed to meet its funding obligations. The Wales national team ended an 18-match losing streak with a victory over Japan on Saturday, but remain outside the top 10 in world rankings after high-margin losses to France and England this year. "The WRU is therefore considering a more radical strategy focused on maximising investment and reforming the whole structure of professional rugby in Wales (amongst other options)," the WRU added.

World's top golfers descend on Portrush as The Open practice gets underway
Golf's Open championship is finally back in Northern Ireland as the world's top golfers descended on Royal Portrush before the 153rd edition of the tournament tees off on Thursday. One of the biggest events in the golf calendar is back in the seaside town after just six years. Normally a venue has to wait 10 years before the competition returns. Portrush has hosted the Open three times - the first in 1951. The first of four official practice days got underway on Sunday. Around 270,000 people are expected to hit the famous fairways of Portrush to get close to the action. The competition draws golf's greatest stars. All local hopes will be pinned on Holywood's Rory McIlroy. His first public appearance on a NI golf course since his historic Masters triumph which saw him complete golf's career grand slam. Rory's feat was the first time in 25 years someone had won all four of golf's majors and made him just the sixth man to complete the set. The Grand Slam winner said: "After the 18th and seeing all the kids and signing autographs, it's really really nice and I'm sure that will just build and build as the week goes on". The excitement around the fairways has boosted the numbers of domestic and international tourists, who in turn are spending money in local shops and the hospitality sector. The 2019 Open at Royal Portrush generated over £100million in economic benefits for Northern Ireland. Six years on, the Causeway Coast and Glens area and beyond looks set for another boost. More than a quarter of a million golf fans are expected to flock to the north coast for the championship. The head of Tourism Northern Ireland, John McGrillen, said: "The people who come here they don't just play golf, they visit all of the visitor attractions and they spend their money in local bars and restaurants. They make a huge contribution". All roads may lead to Portrush this week, but with tens of thousands of spectators imminent, organisers have recommended the use of public transport. Extra buses and trains are in place, but an industrial dispute at Translink could lead to services being suspended on Friday and Saturday. The transport network is expected to be "very busy" but it is hoped that the provision of 115,000 additional seats will ease pressures. There is a dedicated walking route set out for passengers from the course to Portrush station. For those with sea legs, water taxis will be on hand to ferry fans to the fairways, making upwards of 40 crossings daily from Greencastle. The Open Championship first took place at Royal Portrush in 1951. Brian Twite, 98, is believed to be one of the last surviving players. Now, 74 years later, he is reflecting on the magic of The Open.
