Moody's Cuts Brazil Outlook, Delivering Fiscal Warning to Lula

Moody's Ratings lowered Brazil 's credit outlook to stable from positive, delivering a reproof to President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva's government at a time when it is under increasing pressure to shore up the country's fiscal situation.
The ratings firm, which upgraded the country in October, reaffirmed its Ba1 rating, one level below investment grade. But it cited expectations of larger fiscal deficits, slower progress in structural reforms and budget pressure from high interest rates to alter its overall outlook for Latin America's largest economy on Friday.

IEC signs MoU with AEP to pursue energy opportunities in Brazil
Oil and gas exploration and production company Indonesia Energy Corporation (IEC) has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Brazil's Aguila Energia e Participações (AEP) to explore potential energy opportunities in Brazil. The agreement enables both parties to jointly identify, assess and pursue acquisitions or participation in oil and gas or other energy-related assets and projects in Brazil. IEC president Frank Ingriselli said: 'We believe Brazil is experiencing an attractive convergence of market catalysts that create an exceptional entry point for nimble independent oil and gas companies like ours.' This strategic move combines IEC's industry expertise in oil and gas and capital markets and AEP's local market insights in transactions, regulatory engagement and asset development to build a diversified energy portfolio. Ingriselli said: 'This collaboration marks an exciting first step by IEC to evaluate world-class opportunities beyond Indonesia in Brazil, a market that has become one of the most attractive for upstream investment. Working with Blener Mayhew and his team will give us immediate local insight and access. 'In addition to opportunities in Brazil, AEP may also assist us in further commercialising our Indonesian assets and identifying new Indonesian domestic growth projects. Together with our planned drilling programme at our Kruh Block, this initiative advances our growth strategy to scale production and diversify our portfolio in the final months of 2025 and beyond.' The collaboration follows IEC's recent plans to drill two wells back-to-back on its 63,000-acre Kruh Block in Indonesia, starting in the fourth quarter of this year. These drilling operations will benefit from the exploratory seismic work conducted by IEC last year and early 2025, which has upgraded the company's well site prospects and drilling locations. In May 2025, IEC unveiled a 60% increase in proved gross reserves at the Kruh Block, following investments and the completion of 3D seismic work earlier in the year. The agreement with AEP is a non-binding statement of intent and the companies will look to sign definitive agreements for projects on an opportunity-by-opportunity basis. The White House is on TikTok now, which is technically banned in the U.S.
The White House joined TikTok on Tuesday, where it's sharing video clips of President Donald Trump and his staff that attempt to portray them as a quick-witted, rebellious American leaders. These clips, edited together like a sizzle reel, show Trump declining phone calls from Congressmen and threatening lawsuits during a press conference. Another video boasts that Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt 'rips' a New York Times reporter after he asked a question at a press conference. Despite the app's legal battles, TikTok remains a vital way for political candidates and government offices to connect with constituents. But by operating this TikTok account, the White House appears to defy government guidelines, as federal employees were previously banned from using TikTok on government devices. Trump himself initiated the calls to ban TikTok nationally in 2020, citing the danger of the Chinese Communist Party potentially accessing American user data. But in his second term, the president has taken a different approach. While the Supreme Court upheld a law that bans TikTok if it is not sold to an American company, Trump has continually extended the sale deadline. TechCrunch has reached out to TikTok for comment. Reception to the White House videos has been decidedly mixed. As of Wednesday morning, each of the five videos that the White House has uploaded to TikTok have been spammed with negative comments, many of them referencing the president's friendship with Jeffrey Epstein, the financier and convicted child sex offender who died awaiting trial.
