Here are the pressing questions facing the Yankees as the unofficial start of the second half of the season is set to begin Friday:
How many of their weaknesses can they address at the trade deadline?
Brian Cashman outlined the Yankees' lengthy list last week: a starter, bullpen help and an infielder.
That's a lot to ask for at one deadline, especially when there are far more buyers than sellers and the inventory is not exactly overflowing.
Even if, say, the Diamondbacks trade Eugenio Suárez, the Yankees will face plenty of competition for the third baseman.
And just about every team is looking for a starter and/or reliever, too.
3 Brian Cashman has a lengthy list of needs ahead of the trade deadline, The Post's Greg Joyce writes.

Top prospect George Lombard Jr. figures to be untouchable, but everyone else could be in play depending on what kind of returns the Yankees can pull down by July 31.
What version of Luis Gil returns from the IL?
It's been a long road back for the reigning AL Rookie of the Year, and he still has a few more boxes to check before he gets to a big-league mound — at least three or four more rehab starts as he builds up his pitch count.
3 What version of Luis Gil will the Yankees get when he returns.
AP
But assuming Gil does get back in early August, it's probably not realistic to expect him to immediately be the pitcher he was last season.
How close he gets to that by the end of the season could dictate just how far the Yankees go.
Does Anthony Volpe have a bounceback in him?
The last month-plus heading into the All-Star break was a brutal one for the Yankees shortstop, who fell into a lengthy slump (12-for-96 with a .420 OPS in his past 27 games) while having a number of defensive miscues.
The 24-year-old has been a streaky hitter throughout his three seasons in the big leagues, but his defense falling into a slump at the same time as his bat has raised cause for concern.

Perhaps the break can serve as a reset of sorts because the Yankees need a more consistent Volpe on both sides of the ball in the second half.

Caitlin Clark soccer video adds to injury confusion among Fever fans

This tale of the tape has Caitlin Clark fans confused. The star Fever guard — who has not suited up since July 15 when she sustained a groin injury versus the Sun — raised the eyebrows of some social media users when she was seen kicking a soccer ball around in footage from a recent visit to McCombs Middle School in Des Moines, where she opened a new basketball court with the Caitlin Clark Foundation. 'Did she forget she has a groin injury?' one X user remarked Tuesday. 3 Caitlin Clark is seen kicking a soccer ball in a July 2025 X video. @clrkszn/X 'If she can do that hip motion, she needs to be playing basketball,' another stated. One fan urged Clark, 23, 'to rest and get healed!' Clark, the reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year, has been sidelined numerous times throughout her sophomore campaign. She missed time early in the 2025 season due to a left quadriceps strain and suffered a groin injury in late June. Clark returned to action in early July, only to be sidelined again later in the month after re-injuring her groin, missing the WNBA All-Star festivities. 3 Caitlin Clark has been sidelined throughout her sophomore WNBA campaign. Getty Images ESPN's Holly Rowe reported Sunday that Clark 'did see a specialist last week and no additional injury was found in that exam and scans,' with the Fever poised to 'be even more cautious in their approach to her return to play this time.' 'Last time when she came back from injury, she didn't get any practice time [or] any time to ramp up her conditioning. This time, they're going to make sure she has time and practices to get rhythm and time with her teammates,' Rowe said. 3 Caitlin Clark looks on during a Fever game on July 27, 2025. AP 'As you look at their schedule, the third week in August provides a few more practice days where that seems like it's realistic. While she does remain day to day, that seems like a better timetable for a possible Caitlin Clark return.' The Fever, winners of this year's Commissioner's Cup, are currently 14-12 and in sixth placce in the WNBA. Through 13 games this season, Clark is averaging 16.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 8.8 assists. She appeared in 40 of the Fever's games last season and averaged 19.2 points, 5.7 rebounds and 8.4 assists. The Fever host the Mercury (16-9) on Wednesday.

Bobby Portis of the Bucks also had his home burglarized in November. In February, seven Chilean nationals were charged with conspiracy to commit interstate transportation of stolen property after heisting more than $2 million in valuables. They were caught after photos were found of some of them posing with some of the stolen items. Yamamoto is in the second season of a 12-year, $325 million contract with the Dodgers after coming over from Japan last year; the Mets offered him a similar contract.
