INDIA bloc remains strong in the State: TNCC chief Selvaperunthagai
Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president K. Selvaperunthagai on Wednesday said the INDIA bloc led by DMK president and Chief Minister M K Stalin in Tamil Nadu remains intact and strong.
'Our alliance is stable and based on ideology. The AIADMK-BJP alliance is opportunistic and unstable and can break anytime,' he told reporters in Chennai. Mr. Selvaperunthagai also said Mr Stalin is participating in upcoming NITI Aayog Meeting in New Delhi 'to affirm State's rights' and the Congress welcomes it.
Earlier, Mr. Selvaperunthagai paid tributes on the death anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and participated at a meeting organised at Rajiv Gandhi memorial in Sriperumbudur.

Critical minerals such as lithium, cobalt, nickel, copper, and rare earth elements are vital to modern energy technologies, powering everything from electric vehicles to wind turbines. However, the supply of these materials is heavily dominated by China, which has acquired substantial reserves and processing capacity across the globe, raising concerns about strategic vulnerabilities. In response to these vulnerabilities, Goyal outlined India's strategy to build resilience into its own supply chain. He said that the government is promoting innovation and supporting startups to develop alternative methods for processing and using critical minerals. "This will help reduce our over-dependence and over-reliance on certain critical minerals," he explained, underlining the role of research and development in securing a more self-reliant future. However, he admitted India's efforts are still evolving. "We are still at a stage of firming up how it will pan out, what will be the route it will take and which are the countries which will support it - financially and through right of way," Goyal said. Italian deputy prime minister and foreign minister Antonio Tajani suggested that the two countries could collaborate in this segment, particularly through private sector joint ventures focused on mineral processing and technology innovation.

Minister of State L. Murugan meets Vietnamese delegation
India and Vietnam on Thursday (June 5, 2025) agreed to step up cooperation in the media and entertainment sector during a meeting held between Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs, L. Murugan, and a delegation of high-ranking officials from Vietnam. The Vietnamese delegation was led by Nguyen Trong Nghia, Polit Bureau member of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) and chairperson of the CPV's Central Commission for Information, Education and Mass Mobilisation. The meeting was also attended by I&B Secretary Sanjay Jaju, and other senior officials of the Ministry. 'India and Vietnam share traditionally close and warm bilateral relations. In 2022, the two countries celebrated the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. The India - Vietnam bilateral relations were elevated in the year 2016 to the level of 'Comprehensive Strategic Partnership' during the visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Vietnam,' a government release said. Terror, trade in focus as EAM Jaishankar meets Central Asian counterparts
NEW DELHI: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Thursday held separate meetings with the foreign ministers of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan ahead of the fourth India-Central Asia Dialogue, which is scheduled for Friday. Kazakh Foreign Minister Murat Nurtleu, Tajik Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin, Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Zheenbek Kulubaev, and Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov all condemned terrorism and supported collaborative efforts to tackle the threat. In a social media post, Jaishankar expressed appreciation for Nurtleu's 'reaffirmation of zero tolerance for terrorism.' He and Muhriddin agreed on the need to 'firmly counter terrorism in our region.' During his meeting with Kulubaev, Jaishankar thanked Kyrgyzstan for its 'support and solidarity in countering terrorism,' and welcomed Meredov's strong condemnation of all forms of terrorism. Alongside security issues, Jaishankar and the ministers discussed ways to enhance trade, investment, connectivity, and cooperation in development and energy. With Nurtleu, Jaishankar reviewed the India-Kazakhstan strategic partnership, including trade and energy ties.
