Eagles' Saquon Barkley Reveals New 'Non-Retirement' Plan
Eagles' Saquon Barkley Reveals New 'Non-Retirement' Plan originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
We wrote it as soon as he said it.
Mostly, Saquon Barkley seems to just be thinking out loud and toying with the idea when he mentioned the notion of an early retirement, unintentionally crushing the hearts of Philadelphia Eagles fans who want this ride to go on forever.

What was Barkley thinking?
Way back in July of 1999, Barry Sanders was at the top of his game and yet stunned the NFL by announcing his retirement after a stellar 10-year career with the Detroit Lions.
Sanders, who had made the Pro Bowl 10 times, was just 31 when he said goodbye.
Fast-forward to a few days ago.
"I'll probably be one of those guys that it'll be out of nowhere. I'll probably just wake up one day, whether it's next year or two years or four years, and just be like, 'Yeah it's over,'" Barkley said.
Wait. What?
A bit of context is merited here.
It is during an interview with Chris Long on the latest edition of "The Green Light" podcast when the 28-year-old Barkley was asked if he is the kind of guy who might retire sooner rather than later.

And then the surprising answer, which adds up to the idea Barkley might consider retiring as early as following this season.
At the same time, the superstar added, "I don't think I will ever lose that passion. I'm just a competitor. ... The competitive nature is always going to be there."
And now we know more.
Saquon met with the media on Wednesday and offered some clarity.
'I don't think I'll ever lose the passion for the game,' he said. 'The retiring thing, I think that caught a little fire on social media. I don't plan on retiring any time soon. The question was asked of me, and I don't have a set date, or how many years I want to play.

"I would love to play this game as long as God lets me, and my body lets me, so that's really it.'
Good.
Barkley is coming off a spectacular season in which he became just the ninth player in league history to cross the 2,000-yard barrier as he hit 2,005 yards. ... and then won a Super Bowl.
Now he's married... on the Madden 26 cover... and the centerpiece of a team poised to win another one.
Oh, and he's just 28.
Maybe the idea popped into Saquon's mind because as he said, "One of my favorite players of all time, probably my favorite player of all time, is Barry Sanders, so probably similar to that. Maybe one day it will be out of nowhere. I'll probably be ballin' and just be like, 'Yeah' and call it quits."

But this week? What seems to be popping is his recognition that his Philadelphia Eagles have a grand chance to repeat as Super Bowl champions.
So, one more time with feeling?
'I don't plan on retiring anytime soon," Barkley said.

Kanye West ‘wants to attend Sean ‘Diddy' Combs' criminal trial
Kanye West reportedly wants to attend Sean 'Diddy' Combs' criminal trial in New York to publicly support the embattled music mogul. The 47-year-old rapper, who now goes by Ye, is currently in New York City, though he was not present at this week's court proceedings, but a source has told CNN he has been communicating with 26-year-old Christian 'King' Combs, one of Combs' sons, about possibly joining the family in court once the defence begins presenting their case. An insider 'close to Combs' told the network: 'Ye has been in touch with Christian and would like to attend the trial with the family to show his support.' Combs' federal trial, which includes serious charges against the 55-year-old such as sex trafficking, racketeering conspiracy and transportation to engage in prostitution, has so far featured appearances in court from several members of Combs' family, including his sons. Prosecutors are expected to conclude their case next week, paving the way for the defence to begin calling witnesses – a point at which Kanye may make an appearance. Combs has pleaded not guilty to all charges and has denied all allegations of misconduct. More than 60 civil suits have also been filed against Combs alleging sexual assault or other abuses on top of his criminal trial. The source also confirmed to CNN Christian and Kanye are currently collaborating on new music. They previously worked together on a track released in March, which included audio of a jailhouse phone call between West and Combs. The track also featured vocals from Kanye's daughter with Kim Kardashian. Scandal-plagued Kanye, who has been widely criticised in recent years for repeated antisemitic remarks and inflammatory behaviour, is one of the few public figures to voice support for Combs. Ahead of his fellow rapper's trial, he posted messages on social media advocating for Combs' release. In February, West sparked further backlash after he promoted and sold T-shirts emblazoned with swastikas — an incident he publicised in a Super Bowl advertisement. Neither Combs nor Christian responded to CNN's request for comment.

Browns Pushed to Sign 11,000-Yard Receiver in Free Agency
Browns Pushed to Sign 11,000-Yard Receiver in Free Agency originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Cleveland Browns are sorting through a litany of quarterback questions this offseason. With veterans Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett on the roster to compete with rookie draft picks Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders, there are a number of scenarios that could take place before the start of the regular season in September. Advertisement Another question this offseason surrounds who the Browns quarterback will be throwing to next season. After trading away Amari Cooper last season, the wide receiver room thinned out quite a bit. Cleveland failed to add a wideout in the NFL Draft and signed the troubled Diontae Johnson not long after, but there are very few options behind Jerry Jeudy heading into the rest period of the offseason. That's why The Hanford Dixon Show's producer, Pat McGuire, would love to see the Browns pursue free agent Keenan Allen. 'One of the other names I would love for us to bring in is Keenan Allen, because he's kind of a possession receiver. I don't know if you guys caught this, but they were talking about how the offense is going to be a wide zone offense now, where they're going to run the ball just like they did in 2020 and 2021, which could unlock Keenan Allen in the passing game. I would love to see him here,' McGuire said. Advertisement Allen is a 12-year veteran with 149 starts in 154 games under his belt. He's tallied 974 catches for 11,274 yards with 66 touchdowns across 11 years with the Chargers and last season with the Bears. The question is, can Allen make the quarterbacks look good? That might be something the team wants to ask before signing a veteran wideout if that's the direction GM Andrew Berry wants to go. 'Everybody Has Opinions!' Browns WR Hopes to Put Sketchy Past Behind Him
'Everybody Has Opinions!' Browns WR Hopes to Put Sketchy Past Behind Him originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Cleveland Browns hope to have solved their quarterback problem this season. With two veterans and two rookies in camp this summer, they've got options for who will be throwing the ball in 2025. Advertisement What they don't have is a lot of options for guys catching those balls. Cleveland has just two receivers on their summer roster who have caught at least 50 passes in a season. Jerry Jeudy and Diontae Johnson. And Johnson is a question mark. Johnson had a drama-filled season in 2024 and played for three different teams. He led the Panthers with 30 catches and 357 yards over the first two months of the season before being traded to Baltimore, where he lasted seven weeks and caught one pass. He was also suspended by Baltimore for refusing to enter a game against the Eagles on Dec. 1. The Ravens waived him not long after, and he was claimed by the Texans. Houston waived him three weeks later after he became emotional about playing just 15 plays in the Wild Card game against the Chargers. Advertisement Now, he'll try to clear his head in Cleveland, where he spoke during minicamp for the first time about last season. "I don't want to speak on a lot of stuff," Johnson said. "Everybody's going to have their opinions, you know what I'm saying? So at the end of the day, I'm the only one in that room that really know what's going on. They're entitled to their own opinion, so I can only go off of what I know and then try to go off what I put out there and my best effort. But like I said, last year is last year. I'm trying to change that narrative and move the right way and keep going." The Browns took a flyer on Johnson on a one-year deal for the veteran minimum with no guaranteed money. Johnson also said Cleveland was the only team that reached out to him. And so far, head coach Kevin Stefanski has been impressed. Advertisement "Diontae's doing a nice job," Stefanski said Tuesday. "Obviously, getting up to speed with terminology and those types of things, and I think we'll just continue to work. But it's good to have him out here." In what could be his last chance in the NFL, Johnson will need to impress this upcoming season. And it wouldn't hurt if he caught about 50 passes ... from whoever is throwing the ball for the Browns.
