Tributes to Scots mum who died days after falling from horse

STV News13-05-2025

Tributes have been paid to a Scottish mum who died after falling from a horse she had recently bought.
Louise Goudman suffered a serious head injury after falling from her horse Bobby on May 2.
The 40-year-old never regained consciousness after the fall and died in hospital a week before her 41st birthday.
Her partner, Malcolm Cameron, said she died 'doing something that she loved' and 'wouldn't have blamed her young horse' for the fall.
South Cathkin Farm near Rutherglen said she had purchased Bobby a few months ago and was having 'teething issues' with the horse.
In a JustGiving post, he said: 'My beautiful partner Louise tragically died on May 5, a week before her 41st birthday, following a horse riding accident a few days earlier.
'She died doing something that she loved. She adored animals and wouldn't have blamed her young horse, even with his flaws, whom she had only known a couple of months.
'We deliberated long and hard what was the best Louise-friendly thing to do, whilst morally knowing no one can ride Bobby again.
'We don't want anyone to be put through the heartache of having their loved one wrenched from their lives in such an unexpected and sudden way.'
Over £3,000 has already been raised in aid of a charity which rescues and rehomes horses, her partner said.
He added: 'This charity that rescues and re-houses horses best meets our need,s and they have kindly agreed to look after Bobby.
'The funds raised from this just giving page will go towards paying for his upkeep.'
South Cathkin farm posted on Facebook: 'It is with great sadness that we lost one of our lovely clients Louise Goudman, who had been livery with us a few years bac,k then recently purchased her new horse Bobby a couple of months ago.
'Louise was having teething issues with Bobby, and we were trying our best to iron them out.
'Unfortunately, she took a bad fall on Friday, May 2, and never regained consciousness.
'She sadly passed away on Monday, May 5.
'We are all devastated for Louise's family here at South Cathkin, especially having a young family losing their mother.'

Sharp rise in Stirling knife crime sees response from cops and First Minister

The figures - acquired by a Conservative MSP - have revealed a "shocking" rise in the number of incidents involving 'bladed or pointed article crimes' from 2022 to 2024. A 'shocking' surge in knife crime incidents has been revealed in Stirling over the last two years according to newly-released data. The figures were discovered by Central Scotland MSP Stephen Kerr in a parliamentary question at Holyrood which asked about the number of 'bladed or pointed article crimes' reported across the council area. ‌ The data shows that 81 such crimes were recorded in Stirling in 2024, rocketing up from 48 in 2022. ‌ Mr Kerr has raised the alarm over the figures and the impact on local communities - while taking a shot at the Scottish Government's handling of the issue. The MSP — who is standing at the Conservative candidate in the Stirling constituency at next year's Holyrood election — said: 'These shocking figures lay bare the SNP Government's abject failure to get a grip on Scotland's knife crime epidemic. 'This terrible surge in knife crime in Stirling in just two years isn't just a statistic; it's a terrifying indictment of a justice system that is failing our communities. 'Enough is enough. The SNP need to stop their soft-touch approach to justice, get tough on knife crime, and make Stirling safe again.' The most recent data from Statista shows a record high in the number of incidents recorded by police involving offensive weapons of all kinds (including knives and bladed weapons), with 10,835 such crimes highlighted in 2023/24. ‌ Forth Valley area commander, Superintendent Lynsey Kidd said tackling knife violence is a priority for local officers. She added: 'We recently launched an offensive weapon initiative across Forth Valley aimed at tackling and reducing the carrying of weapons, including knives. 'We acknowledge the impact that violent crime has on individuals, families, and local communities, and we remain resolute in our commitment to keeping our communities safe. This includes highly visible patrols across Stirling and Forth Valley, to prevent and detect issues and reassure the public. ‌ 'Recognising that the underlying factors are often complex in nature, we work closely with our national and local partners to draw on their collective expertise and resources to develop and deliver tailored responses to detect, deter and respond to such crime.' She added: 'As ever, we thank the public for their support and seek their help to hold offenders to account. If you have information, please contact us on 101 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.' ‌ First Minister John Swinney — who this week convened a cross-party summit on youth violence — said: 'There is absolutely no justification for carrying any weapon, including knives, at anytime, anywhere — and we must be relentless in that message to young people. 'We must make sure we are doing everything possible to respond to the changing behaviours of young people at an early stage, while ensuring parents are aware of the help and support available. 'Challenging crime and anti-social behaviour is the responsibility of everyone which is why our approach to tackling violence among young people is focused on education programmes, on the unacceptability of violence, effective punishment for offences, appropriate police powers and sustained school and community engagement. 'This will help show young people the dangers and consequences of violence, including carrying a weapon, and help prevent them from making decisions which could determine the rest of their life and devastate the lives of others.'

Cruel Scot left starved dogs scavenging for food in cage covered with faeces

A cruel Scots man who left his dogs starving in a cage covered with faeces has been given a five year ban. Andrew Whyte from Fraserburgh pled guilty to failing to meet the needs of his dogs - Phoenix (4.5-year-old female), Bella (2-year-old female), and Vadar (1.5-year-old male). The desperate pups were first found underweight and scavenging for food in a dirty home environment. Despite Whyte being handed welfare advice and support by the Scottish SPCA, their condition worsened over the following weeks. When inspectors returned, all three dogs were found confined together in a tiny cage in a cluttered garage, with no food, water, or bedding. The cage was soiled with faeces and urine. Whyte admitted failing to provide basic care, including adequate food, water, shelter, and veterinary treatment. He was sentenced to a five-year disqualification from dog ownership and ordered to complete 120 hours of community service within nine months. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! A Scottish SPCA Inspector reported: 'Following a complaint, we attended Mr Whyte's property and found three underweight Labradors—Phoenix, Bella, and Vadar—scavenging for food in an unclean environment. "Despite initial support, their condition deteriorated. On a later visit, we found the dogs crammed into a small, filthy cage in a cluttered garage with no bedding, food, or water." They continued: 'Whyte would not engage with us at that later visit. There was no excuse for the dogs suffering as our assistance was available. 'Veterinary assessments confirmed all three were severely emaciated and had suffered unnecessarily over a prolonged period due to neglect. "This case is a stark reminder that failing to meet even the most basic needs of an animal causes real suffering—and will not be tolerated.'
