By order of MI6: ‘Peaky Blinders' creator Steven Knight to write new Bond script

Malay Mail2 days ago
LONDON, Aug 2 — Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight will write the script for the next James Bond film, Amazon MGM Studios has announced, reported PA Media/dpa news.
It marks the latest step in a major overhaul of the iconic British spy franchise, following Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson handing over creative control to Amazon as part of a lucrative deal.
Knight told BBC Radio 5 Live Breakfast: 'It has always been on my bucket list and it's fantastic to be invited to do it, and I can't wait to get started.'
He added: 'I'm hoping that, being a Bond fan for so many years, it will be imbued into me and I will be able to produce something that's the same but different, and better, stronger and bolder.'
In June it was announced that Dune's Denis Villeneuve will direct the film, which will be produced by Amy Pascal and David Heyman via Pascal Pictures and Heyday Films respectively.
The pair consistently maintained that they would secure a director and develop a screenplay before casting the next super spy.
There has been speculation about who will take up the mantle of Bond after Daniel Craig's final portrayal in 2021's No Time to Die.
In 2022, Amazon acquired MGM, including the rights to distribute James Bond films.
The official Bond film franchise had been controlled by members of the Broccoli family, either single-handedly or in partnership with others, since the first 007 movie Dr No in 1962.
Knight, 65, is the creator of historical drama series A Thousand Blows, BBC's This Town and Netflix mini-series All The Light We Cannot See.
He is also executive producer on the new series, Built In Birmingham: Brady And The Blues, which follows Birmingham City football club and key ownership figures, including former NFL quarterback Tom Brady and US businessman Tom Wagner.
His upcoming projects include Netflix's Peaky Blinders film and historical drama series House Of Guinness. — Bernama-PA Media/dpa

Oasis say they're ‘shocked and saddened' after fan dies in fall during Wembley concert

LONDON, Aug 4 — A man in his 40s has died after falling at a Oasis concert at London's Wembley stadium, the police said Sunday. Brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher, who brought the iconic Britpop band back together for a blockbuster world tour this year, told the BBC they were 'shocked and saddened' by the fan's death at the Saturday evening gig. According to a spokesperson for the London Metropolitan Police, officers and medics were called to the scene after 10.00pm following 'reports that a person had been injured' at the packed stadium. 'A man — aged in his 40s — was found with injuries consistent with a fall. He was sadly pronounced dead at the scene,' the spokesperson said, urging any witnesses to come forward. 'Our thoughts go out to his family,' a spokesperson for Wembley said, while adding that 'tonight's Oasis concert will go ahead as planned'. Sunday's gig will be Oasis's last London date of the band's 41-gig reunion world tour after 16 years of estrangement between the famously volatile Gallaghers. The tour has sold around 900,000 tickets, with the group heading to Edinburgh next before its international leg takes them to the United States, Japan, Australia and Brazil. — AFP

From London to Pristina: Singer Dua Lipa receives Kosovo citizenship, says ‘my two sides are now one'

LONDON, Aug 3 — Singer Dua Lipa on Saturday said she is 'feeling grateful' after being awarded citizenship of Kosovo by the country's president, PA Media/dpa reported. The 29-year-old was born in London to Kosovo-Albanian parents and moved to the country's capital of Pristina aged 11, when her family returned after Kosovo gained its independence in 2008. She later moved back to London aged 15. In a post on Instagram, Lipa said: 'Feeling so grateful to have been awarded my Kosovan citizenship by our president.' Kosovo's president, Vjosa Osmani, posted a picture of herself presenting a certificate of citizenship to the Houdini singer with a caption saying 'welcome home Dua.' Welcome back home, Dua! Today, by presidential decree, I had the honor of granting the citizenship of the Republic of Kosovo to one of the most iconic cultural figures in our country's history, @DUALIPA. Dua and Kosovo have always been inseparable. From the world's biggest… — Vjosa Osmani (@VjosaOsmaniPRKS) July 31, 2025 She added: 'Special honour that today, by presidential decree, to grant citizenship of the Republic of Kosovo to Dua Lipa, one of the most important cultural and artistic personalities in the history of our country. 'Dua and Kosovo have always been inseparable. She has been and continues to be one of the most powerful voices on the world's biggest stages, making history with her achievements and becoming an inspiration to millions of people around the globe. 'Our gratitude is endless for all that Dua has done and continues to do for Kosovo, for our youth, for our art and for the international image of our country. 'Dua, Kosovo is always proud of you.' At her initiation ceremony, Lipa was welcomed by a group of children dressed in white singing her 2020 UK hit single, Levitating. In a statement, Lipa added: 'Every time I come back to Kosovo, it always feels like coming home. 'Receiving citizenship from president Osmani is such an honour and feels like my two sides are now one. 'It completes the duality I have always had within. I love this country and this means so much to me and my family.' It comes after the singer appeared at the country's Sunny Hill Festival, which she created in 2018, on Friday, where she performed the song Era with her father in Albanian. She said of the performance in a post on X: 'Sharing this night with you all, in the city that shaped me, surrounded by so much energy, joy, and pride… it's hard to put into words what it means. 'Performing for you, and sharing the stage with my dad @dukagjinlipa was a moment I'll never forget. 'I feel so incredibly lucky and grateful, and we still have two more nights to celebrate together.' In November 2022, the singer was granted Albanian citizenship by its president Bajram Begaj. Since beginning her career in 2013, Lipa has had four UK number one singles and two UK number one albums. She is best known for songs such as Training Season, New Rules, and One Kiss, which she recorded with DJ Calvin Harris. — Bernama-PA Media/dpa
