Widespread rain in coastal areas and Rayalaseema on May 21 and 22
India Meteorological Department, Amaravati, Director S. Stella said there would be widespread moderate rain in the coastal region and Rayalaseema due to an upper air cyclonic circulation over the Westcentral Bay of Bengal and South Coastal Andhra Pradesh, which now lies over Westcentral Bay of Bengal and South Andhra Pradesh.
On Tuesday, the day's highest of 71.5 mm of rainfall was recorded in Nitravatti of Kurnool district, followed by Karapa in Kakinada district where 65.25 mm was recorded and Katikapalli in Chittoor district where 58.25 mm of rainfall was recorded, according to the realtime rainfall information updated on the A.P. State Development and Planning Society between 8.30 a.m. and 9 p.m. on Tuesday.
The IMD has said heavy to very heavy rain, accompanied with lightning, thunderstorms and gusty winds, is likely at isolated places across the State on May 21 and 22. Thereafter, until May 26, light rain is likely at isolated places in the State.
While the IMD has said the onset of Southwest Monsoon is likely in the next five days, earlier than the first announced date of May 27, there is no clarity yet on the arrival of the monsoon in the State.
Ms. Stella said a low pressure is likely to form on May 22 over the Karnataka coast that is likely to move northward and intensify further. 'That might impact the progress of the monsoon in Andhra Pradesh. Firstly, we need to wait for the onset of the monsoon in Kerala and only then we can say when it is going to be in A.P.,' she said.

Met issues orange alert for lightning and thunderstorm in 20 dists today
1 2 3 Patna: Light to moderate rainfall is likely across the state on Wednesday with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing an orange alert for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning in 20 districts, including Patna. The districts under the orange alert are Supaul, Araria, Kishanganj, Purnia, Katihar, Madhepura, Saharsa, Jehanabad, Gaya, Nalanda, Nawada, Sheikhpura, Lakhisarai, Begusarai, Khagaria, Bhagalpur, Munger, Jamui and Banka. A yellow alert for thunderstorms and lightning has been issued for the remaining districts. "Thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds (30-40kmph) are likely at a few places in the districts of east and south-central parts of the state," the IMD forecast said. A heavy rainfall alert has also been issued for Araria, Kishanganj and Purnia. According to Tuesday's IMD bulletin, the maximum temperature is expected to fall by two to four degrees Celsius over the next four days, after which it is likely to stabilise. No significant change is expected in the minimum temperature for the next five days. The maximum temperature is forecast to range between 34 and 36 degrees Celsius across the state on Wednesday, dipping to 32-34 degrees Celsius in southern districts on Thursday. Valmiki Nagar has recorded the state's highest maximum temperature for the past three days. On Tuesday, it registered 35.4°C, down by 0.8°C compared with Monday. Aurangabad recorded the highest rainfall in the state at 674 mm in the past 24 hours. Light showers were also reported in Jehanabad, Rajgir, Purnea, Bhagalpur and Gaya. Fishing season faces slow start due to heavy rain, labour shortage
Panaji: Goa's fishing industry is struggling to get fully under way as many boat workers from other states have yet to arrive. Heavy rainfall and persistent rough weather conditions are being blamed for the delayed arrival of labourers, which in turn has limited the number of boats able to venture out to sea. 'With only half the workforce here, we can barely manage 50% of our usual fishing trips. The weather really set us back this season,' said a boat owner from Betim. The seasonal fishing ban, imposed annually from June 1 to July 31 by Goa govt, restricts fishing activities using mechanical propulsion, trawl nets, and purse seine nets along the seacoast and territorial waters.
