How Bahrain's billion-dollar waters are turning empty shores into floating villas and mega-yachts
Once a niche luxury, yacht rentals in Bahrain are now transforming the nation's tourism and leisure economy by connecting heritage islands, upscale marinas, and a rising demand for sea-based experiences/Image: Yachtzoo TL;DR: Yacht rentals and day cruises are surging in Bahrain , driven by a mix of affluent lifestyles, heritage tourism , and investor-backed infrastructure projects. Options range from short marina cruises to full-day offshore charters around islands like Hawar and Al Dar . Booking is becoming seamless through apps and local operators, but licenses, seasonal patterns, and costs remain critical considerations. Yachting culture touches leisure, tourism, corporate events, and reflects Bahrain's growing marine sector and luxury economy. Bahrain: A Growing Market for Yacht Rentals Bahrain is catching up fast in the Persian Gulf's luxury yachting wave. The national yacht charter market is expanding due to rising affluence, growing leisure spending, and sustained government investment in its maritime and tourism ecosystems. Marinas, artificial islands, and water sports hubs are multiplying to meet demand, positioning Bahrain as a Gulf yachting hub. Major charter firms like Ocean World Group, Yachtzoo, Sea Star Marine, and local booking sites offer diverse fleets like motor yachts, sailing catamarans and private dhows targeting tourists, expats, and locals. What You Can Charter Short Marina Cruises Leisure trips along Amwaj Marina and Manama offer sunset jalsas (leisure gatherings) on parked yachts with refreshments included. Pricing typically ranges from BHD 40–70 (USD 106–186) for one to two hours, often with charming additions like flower bouquets or cakes. Island and Coastal Excursions Half-day or full-day charters venture to Hawar Islands, Al Dar, Jarada Island, and natural reefs. These include snorkeling, dolphin sightings, beach access, and lunch services. Overnight Stays and Events Some operators offer overnight packages from BHD 90–140 (USD 239–371), complete with onboard bedding and food prep facilities, ideal for intimate romantic experiences or small parties. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Switch to UnionBank Rewards Card UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo Superyacht Charters For travellers seeking opulence, Yachtzoo lists mega-yachts (e.g. O'Mathilde, Solandge) available for weekly hire at €300K–1M, though more common in Bahrain's premium niche. Booking and Booking Platforms Contemporary yacht bookings in Bahrain are gaining a tech edge. Agents like Ocean World provide concierge-style services curating yacht, dates, itinerary, catering, crew, licensing assistance, and docking from step one. Other platforms list choices directly: date, size, add-ons, payment; all via web or mobile. Seasonal demand sees peak activity from November to April. Operators recommend booking 48 hours in advance to secure prime slots, particularly for larger vessels or communal events. Licensing, Costs, and Regulatory Rules Boating License Requirements Bahrain law mandates a boating license to operate a yacht. Many operators include a crew; day charters are permissible without a license if the captain is licensed. Rental for self-driving users requires validation of ownership or license documentation Y. Cost Breakdown Short marina trips: BHD 40–70 (USD 106–186) for 1–2 hours Island excursions: BHD 100–200 (USD 265–530) for 3–5 hours Overnight charters: BHD 90–140 (USD 239–371) Superyacht weekly hire: >€300K Additional costs may include fuel, provisioning, docking fees, and crew tips. Why Yacht Rentals Matter in Bahrain Leisure and Lifestyle Appeal Yachting culture caters to families and expats seeking unique weekend experiences. Sunset cruises, water sports, fishing, and overnight stays add variety well beyond traditional beach tourism. Heritage and Nature Connections Trips often integrate visits to UNESCO sites like Qalat al-Bahrain or Pearl Trail, dipping into Bahrain's maritime roots. Island stops, a contrast of modern luxury and traditional heritage highlight the nation's layered identity. Marine Tourism Growth Government investment in marinas, artificial islands like Reef Island and Durrat Al Bahrain, and water sports facilities is signalling a shift towards marine tourism. Yacht services support this vision and diversify tourist offerings. Economic Spillovers Yacht charters support boat crew, marinas, caterers, travel agents, and hospitality businesses. Extended or overnight charters encourage tourists to dine in waterfront restaurants or explore cultural sites. Gulf Competition and Niche Positioning While Dubai and Qatar dominate yacht leasing, Bahrain is carving a niche—quieter coves, lower prices, and cultural richness appeal to visitors wanting a more intimate marine experience. Challenges Ahead Regulatory Balance Maintaining streamlined licensing while ensuring safety and environmental protection is essential. Regulating unlicensed charters and drafting boating safety laws remain priorities. Infrastructure Sustainability More marinas and docking facilities are needed. Investments must balance ecological protection of marine zones that attract tourism, especially around Hawar and Al Dar Islands. Upskilling the Workforce A professional marine services ecosystem, trained captains, hospitality crew, tourism guides needs expansion to match increasing demand and maintain quality standards. Environmental Responsibility Operators must manage waste, fuel use, and coral reef protection amid growing activity. Sustainable yacht tourism is gaining importance in visitor choice and insurance requirements. What the Future Holds Expanded Fleet and Experiences New charter yachts, bigger vessels, multi-day itineraries, corporate packages, and combined tours (heritage sites, scuba, fishing) are emerging to meet diverse traveller needs. Tech-Driven Booking and Planning Apps offering live booking, real-time availability, digital waivers, itinerary customisation, mapping, and marine weather updates will strengthen Bahrain's yachting appeal. Yacht Tourism Events Local yacht shows, regattas, dinner cruises, and mega-event hospitality tie-ins could elevate Bahrain's marine tourism to regional prominence. Responsible Yachting Initiatives Eco-certifications, reef-protection charters, and environmental education cruises may align with global sustainable tourism expectations. What was once a pastime for the few is rapidly becoming a mainstream luxury experience in Bahrain. Yacht rentals now offer adaptable leisure options from sunset sips to island retreats to floating celebrations, all while reflecting the country's tourism ambitions. As infrastructure, tech adoption, and marine offerings expand, Bahrain's yacht culture is charting a new course: one that blends lifestyle, heritage, and economic diversification.

India's Russian oil imports hit 11-month high in June; refiners stock up amid Israel-Iran conflict: Report
Representative image NEW DELHI: India's crude oil imports from Russia surged to an 11-month high in June, as domestic refiners ramped up purchases to bolster inventories amid heightened geopolitical tensions between Israel and Iran, analysts said. Russian crude imports to India stood at 2.08 million barrels per day (bpd) in June, reaching the highest level since July 2024, based on vessel tracking data from Kpler, a global commodity market analytics firm said. The Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air, a European think tank, told PTI that "while India's global imports of crude oil dropped by 6% in June, Russian volumes saw an 8% month-on-month rise to their highest levels since July 2024." "More than half of these imports from Russia were made by three refineries in India, which also export refined products to G7+ countries," he added. Techno Mag Learn More Undo ndia relies on imports for over 85% of its crude oil requirements, which refineries process into fuels such as petrol and diesel. While the Middle East previously dominated supply, Russia has established itself as the primary supplier for approximately three years. Following Western sanctions on Russian crude after the Ukraine invasion in February 2022, Russia offered substantial discounts to secure new buyers. Indian refineries capitalised on this opportunity, transforming Russia from a minor supplier into India's primary crude oil source, surpassing traditional West Asian suppliers. Russian oil now constitutes approximately 40% of India's oil imports. India's June imports from Iraq, its second-largest supplier, were 8,93,000 bpd, showing a 17.2% monthly reduction. Saudi Arabia provided 5,81,000 bpd, remaining steady from May, whilst UAE supplies increased 6.5% to 4,90,000 bpd. Iraq represented 18.5% of India's oil imports, with Saudi Arabia at 12.1% and the UAE at 10.2%. The US maintained its position as the fifth-largest supplier, delivering 3,03,000 bpd, holding a 6.3% market share, according to Kpler data. CREA reported that China acquired 47% of Russian crude exports in June, followed by India (38%), the EU (6%), and Turkiye (6%). "In June, India remained the second-largest purchaser of Russian fossil fuels, importing fossil fuels worth 4.5 billion euro. Crude oil accounted for 80% (3.6 billion euro) of these imports," it said. According to S&P Global Commodity Insights, India's crude inflows from the US jumped by over 50% year-on-year, reaching 2,71,000 barrels per day (bpd) in H1 2025, up from 1,80,000 bpd in the same period of 2024. While India has previously relied on US crude, volumes had declined in recent years as it turned to discounted Russian oil. However, purchases from the US are showing signs of revival amid improved diplomatic ties with the new US administration. Crude imports from Brazil recorded the steepest growth, rising nearly 80% year-on-year to 73,000 bpd in the January–June period, compared to 41,000 bpd a year ago. Despite the shift, Russia remained India's top supplier, with average shipments at 1.67 million bpd in the first six months of 2025, marginally up from 1.66 million bpd in the year-ago period. ISB degree, ex-IAF pilot saved many in 2004 tsunami. Who is Vijay Arisetty, founder of MyGate?
When the 2004 tsunami struck the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, one man flew his chopper into the heart of the disaster zone, saving hundreds of lives. That man was Vijay Arisetty , an Indian Air Force pilot and Shaurya Chakra awardee. Today, he's trading cockpit controls for code and communities. As the founder of MyGate —a digital platform transforming urban gated societies—Vijay is on a new mission: making city living safer, smarter, and more connected for millions of Indians. But how does a warzone-trained helicopter pilot go on to lead one of India's fastest-growing proptech startups? His journey is anything but ordinary. A decorated soldier turned entrepreneur Vijay Arisetty's story begins with intense discipline and service. Trained at the prestigious National Defence Academy (NDA), he went on to serve in the Indian Air Force for over a decade as a helicopter pilot. During his time in uniform, he undertook critical rescue missions and peacekeeping operations both in India and abroad. His bravery during the 2004 tsunami earned him the Shaurya Chakra, one of India's highest peacetime gallantry awards. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Play War Thunder now for free War Thunder Play Now Undo But a sports injury changed everything. It forced him to step away from the cockpit and into civilian life. Seizing this unexpected transition, Vijay enrolled at the Indian School of Business (ISB), Hyderabad, where he pivoted into the corporate world. He eventually worked as Vice President at Goldman Sachs , but something was missing—a deeper purpose. The birth of MyGate You Might Also Like: IIT-IIM degrees, Goldman Sachs job. Left everything to know more about security guards. Who is Abhishek Kumar, co-founder of MyGate? In 2016, armed with military precision, corporate experience, and entrepreneurial vision, Vijay launched MyGate—a digital solution for managing gated communities. The idea was sparked by a simple observation: the everyday experience of apartment living was broken. Security processes were outdated, communication between residents and management was inefficient, and local service discovery was clunky at best. Joining Vijay in this ambitious venture were Abhishek Kumar (IIT Kanpur, IIM Ahmedabad, ex-Goldman Sachs) and Shreyans Daga (IIT Guwahati, ISB). Together, the trio left cushy jobs to build something meaningful from scratch. What began as a gatekeeping app has evolved into a full-fledged ecosystem. According to its website, MyGate now facilitates everything from entry validation and package deliveries to property purchases and helpdesk ticketing. It handles a staggering 720,000 requests per minute and has processed over 6 billion entries across housing societies in India. More than just tech—it's about trust What sets MyGate apart is not just its tech stack, but the real-world grit behind it. Vijay's military background helped shape the platform's emphasis on discipline, security, and reliability. Meanwhile, his corporate stint brought in the finesse required to scale in India's complex urban infrastructure. The app is currently valued at Rs 1,670 crore and is used by millions. But for Vijay, the mission is still personal. MyGate isn't just about digitizing doors; it's about security, empowering residents, and building real communities.
