HSBC UK to employees: Start working from office or get ready for ...

Time of India22-05-2025

HSBC UK
has reportedly informed its retail banking staff that their annual bonuses could be reduced if they failed to meet in-office requirements, making it one of the latest major banks to tighten remote work policies. According to a report by The Independent, the company has sent a memo to its staff stating that those 'consistently not meeting 60 per cent office attendance will be considered in an individual's overall performance assessment, which could lead to variable pay being impacted'.
HSBC UK links office attendance with bonuses
HSBC
UK, which employs around 24,000 people across its high street and commercial bank divisions around Britain, already has a hybrid working policy requiring employees to work from office three-days a week. As per the memo, the bank's policy requiring its staff to spend at least 60% of their time in the office or with customers—will directly impact performance reviews and bonus payouts.

The updated directive applies to all employees with office-based contracts.
'The introduction of the data-led attendance role call is intended to support management in overseeing compliance with it,' the report stated.
Lloyds Banking Group, JP Morgan Chase and others roll back remote work policies
Notably, HSBC UK is not alone to introduce stricter remote work polices. The move follows similar actions by Lloyds Banking Group, which earlier tied senior executives' bonuses to office attendance. The move comes amid a broader shift among banks and corporate employers away from pandemic-era remote work flexibility.
Globally, investment banks such as JPMorgan Chase, Barclays, and Citigroup have all rolled back remote working arrangements in recent months. JPMorgan CEO
Jamie Dimon
recently criticized remote work during a company town hall, while Citigroup shuttered its Málaga outpost known for offering junior bankers a better work-life balance.
Other UK firms, including Big Four accounting giants PwC and EY, have also begun more closely tracking in-office presence.

JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon calls these meetings as breeding grounds for corporate politics and inefficiency

JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Morgan has criticized corporate meetings , terming them as 'breeding grounds' for corporate politics and inefficiency, reports Business Insider. Speaking at a Morgan Stanley financial conference , Dimon advised corporate managers to abandon meetings 'run for the boss'. Instead, managers should be completely open and honest about problems in the business, he said. Jamie Dimon to managers: Be more open about problems During the event, Dimon emphasised that managers should be more open about problems instead of hiding them. He said teams should 'put your dead cats on the table' — a phrase he used to stress the need for honest discussions about operational issues, according to the publication. Quoting a conversation he had at lunch, Dimon said a participant told him: 'We don't have any dead cats. We have a few wounded ones.'" To this Dimon replied: "'Go put the wounded ones on the table.'" People focus on wrong thing in meetings: JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon Explaining why people focus on the wrong thing in meetings, Jamie said that the reason is that they're fighting for resources — "for the credit of revenues and expenses and one set of books." "People don't allocate properly, they're not honest about their loss leaders, they give credit to parts of the company that don't deserve credit," he said. Giving another example, Dimon pointed to JPMorgan's small business credit card division as an example, noting it competes with American Express despite being 'one-third of the size.' Dimon said, 'If you were running that business, I'd be asking you, 'What are they doing better?'' He continued: 'I'm fanatic about, 'Are you doing your marketing?' Or 'What's the ROI? What's the returns? Do you do what they do?'' Apple's HUGE iPhone makeover: iOS 26 & Liquid Glass Explained! AI Masterclass for Students. Upskill Young Ones Today!– Join Now

Has Bianca Censori Ditched Kanye West to Run Her Own World? All We Know About Designer's New Venture

Bianca Censori is charting a new path with the quiet launch of her first U.S.-based company, Bianca Censori Inc. The move comes amid ongoing speculation about her relationship with husband Kanye West. From architecture to aesthetics? The California state filing, completed last month, signifies a pivot away from her earlier architectural role at Yeezy. Though she's been known in recent years more for her provocative public appearances than business ventures, this move indicates a shift toward independent professional pursuits. While the nature of the company has not been officially disclosed, the documents list Hussein Lalani as Chief Financial Officer. Lalani is the founder of Zensa, a beauty brand that specializes in cosmetic procedure products, including waxing kits, microblading tools, and lidocaine numbing creams. This connection suggests Bianca's new company may explore a similar niche in the beauty treatment market. While the firm carries only Bianca's name, Kanye West—now legally known as Ye—is still involved. Ye still in the picture Despite the solo branding, Kanye West remains involved behind the scenes, professionally and personally. He is listed as a director, and the company's legal affairs are being handled by his long-time attorney Manoj Shah. Additionally, the listed business address ties back to the luxury West Hollywood condo where the couple lived last year, the exact location Lalani used in the company's official filings. Bianca has also established a similarly named business in Australia, registered in Alphington, Melbourne, where her family resides. She holds the roles of both CEO and secretary. Despite past rumors of a split following her controversial Grammy appearance and Ye's antisemitic controversies, the couple appears to be united again, having been recently photographed together in Spain. Censori's new business may be a step toward individual branding, although her husband's presence in the venture suggests she has not completely severed professional ties.

Jamie Dimon-led JPMorgan issues stern warning! Job hopping analysts to be fired; ‘if you accept a position with..'

Jamie Dimon has consistently voiced concerns about private equity firms attracting fresh finance graduates. Led by CEO Jamie Dimon, JPMorgan has issued a very stern warning to 'unethical' junior bankers who start looking at alternate job offers within 18 months of joining. A new letter, leaked on Litquidity's Instagram platform, warns the new recruits against job hopping. According to the letter, junior bankers securing alternative employment opportunities during their initial 18-month tenure risk immediate termination from JPMorgan amidst increasing competition for skilled professionals in Wall Street. The confidential correspondence to newly recruited JPMorgan analysts explicitly states that securing employment elsewhere would result in immediate dismissal from the bank, according to a New York Post report. What JPMorgan's letter says to new recruits "If you accept a position with another company before joining us or within your first 18 months, you will be provided notice and your employment with the firm will end," states the correspondence dated June 4, bearing signatures of JPMorgan's global banking co-heads Filippo Gori and John Simmons, the report said. The communication from both senior leaders emphasised that complete dedication and engagement are vital for achieving success in the investment banking analyst programme. The executives further stated that "missing any part of the training programme" might result in dismissal, whilst highlighting that "avoiding potential conflicts of interest is crucial to maintaining the trust and confidence our clients place in us." The leadership also announced a reduction in the timeline to attain associate position by six months, making it 2.5 years, aiming to retain exceptional talent. Whilst their correspondence did not explicitly reference private equity organisations, these firms have historically employed strategies to recruit junior banking professionals following their initial training period, the report said. Jamie Dimon's past warnings Jamie Dimon, the 69-year-old chief executive of JPMorgan, has consistently voiced concerns about private equity firms attracting fresh finance graduates with substantial salary packages that major US banks struggle to match. "I know a lot of you work at JPMorgan, you take a job at a private equity shop before you even start with us," Dimon had told a crowd of undergraduate business school students, terming it "unethical." During his address at Georgetown University's Psaros Center for Financial Markets and Policy in September, he expressed his disapproval, saying, "It puts us in a bad position, and it puts us in a conflicted position. You are already working for somewhere else, and you're dealing with highly confidential information from JPMorgan, and I just don't like it."
