Liverpool vs Arsenal: Latest team news, predicted lineup and injuries

Metro08-05-2025

Arsenal face a quick turnaround as Mikel Arteta's side travel to face Premier League champions Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.
The Gunners may still be reeling from their Champions League semi-final exit at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday.
But they now will have to quickly turn their attention to Sunday's clash with Liverpool, which has taken on added importance after a few poor results in the league.
Arsenal remain in second but are now just four points ahead of Chelsea in fifth place, with the tricky visit of Newcastle United to come the following weekend.
And while falling out of the Champions League spots is still unlikely, the Gunners will be keen to stop the rot having won just one of their last five league games.

Arteta may choose to tinker with his side on Sunday after a draining encounter at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday.
Leandro Trossard and Ethan Nwaneri could come into the side in the forward line after quiet performances from Mikel Merino and Gabriel Martinelli in Paris.
Riccardo Calafiori came on in the closing stages for his first minutes in an Arsenal shirt since March.
And the Italian defender could come into the side to give Myles Lewis-Skelly a rest after an intense period for the teenager.
Jorginho also made a return to the bench in midweek after picking up a lung injury, and could be in line for a recall to the starting XI.
Elsewhere, there is no new injury news for Arsenal, with Gabriel, Kai Havertz, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Gabriel Jesus all sidelined with longer-term issues.
Liverpool, meanwhile, return to Merseyside to play their first game at Anfield as the new Premier League champions.
Arne Slot made a few changes during their 3-1 defeat to Chelsea last weekend but he may now opt to return to a stronger XI against Arsenal.
Ryan Gravenberch missed out on the matchday squad entirely against Chelsea and is expected to return to the matchday squad this weekend.
Trent Alexander-Arnold could also be in line for his first start since announcing his decision to leave his boyhood club at the end of the season.
Joe Gomez remains sidelined with a hamstring injury.
Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson, Gravenberch, Mac Allister, Jones, Salah, Diaz Gakpo.
Raya, White, Saliba, Kiwior, Calafiori, Partey, Odegaard, Rice, Saka, Trossard, Martinelli.
The Premier League clash between Liverpool and Arsenal kicks off at 4.30pm on Sunday, 11 May. More Trending

Novak Djokovic scheduled to play during Champions League final

A host of top players, including Paris St Germain fan Arthur Fils, had pleaded with organisers to ensure their third-round matches did not clash with the big game against Inter Milan in Munich. Djokovic even said after his win over Corentin Moutet: 'It's going to be PSG that I will support. 'I will definitely watch it if I'm not playing the night session. Yeah, that will be nice. FYI, Roland Garros schedule…' But the 24-time grand slam champion received bad news on Friday afternoon as his clash with Austrian Filip Misolic will begin at 8.15pm local time, 45 minutes before the final kicks off. Roland Garros tournament director Amelie Mauresmo does not believe the football will disrupt the tournament. 'The Champions League final won't change much for us,' she said. 'We are trying to do the utmost for the tournament. We are very happy for PSG but we are organising our own event. 'There will be 15,000 people here so we want to give them the best possible match. 'We can't prohibit people to watch their telephone and to follow the football match simultaneously. 'There won't be 10 or 20 goals. If once or twice we have a bit of an uproar, it's going to be fine.'

We'll talk once there's a ruling – Khaldoon Al Mubarak on Man City charges

City were referred to an independent commission in February 2023 over alleged breaches of league financial rules, which City strenuously deny. The commission heard the case between September and December last year but no outcome has yet been announced. Khaldoon was asked about the charges during an in-house interview earlier this week, and said: 'Well, I suppose the only thing I can say is we still don't have a ruling. Club statement — Manchester City (@ManCity) February 6, 2023 'Once there's a ruling, I'll be able to speak about it. Until then we just have to be patient, and it'll come, and we will talk about it, I promise you, once we have the ruling.' The investigation which ultimately resulted in more than 100 charges being laid started back in 2018. City were charged with failing to report accurate financial information for nine seasons stretching from 2009-10 to 2017-18, as well as failing to provide full details of former manager Roberto Mancini's pay between 2009-10 and 2012-13. They are also charged with failing to provide full details of remuneration in contracts with players between 2010-11 and 2015-16, and with failing to co-operate with the investigation over a period from 2018 to 2023. The club said at the time the charges were laid that they welcomed the opportunity for a commission 'to impartially consider the comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence that exists in support of our position'. City won the Champions League at the end of the season the charges were laid in, securing themselves a place in FIFA's expanded 32-team Club World Cup which starts next month. World players' union FIFPRO has criticised the scheduling of the competition amid player welfare concerns and, along with Europe's domestic leagues organisation, has filed legal complaints against FIFA over a lack of consultation around the international match calendar. Despite that, Khaldoon insists the club are taking the competition seriously and treating it as the official start of next season rather than an extension of the current one. 'This is a very, very serious competition. In the summer, the whole world will be watching this,' he said. 'A big number of the top teams in the world will be competing in this tournament and I can assure you, we're going to give it our bestshot. We're going there to win it. 'This is the beginning of the new season, not the continuation of last season. The team will take the rest that they will take right now, then they start pre-season and then immediately straight into the Club World Cup.'
