Chandigarh Cong says no to India-Pakistan cricket matches
Chandigarh: Chandigarh Congress on Sunday demanded that the central government not allow India-Pakistan cricket matches during the Asia Cup tournament at a neutral venue.
The Congress said that people were upset with the agreement to resume cricket ties with Pakistan.
"On the one hand,
Operation Sindoor
, initiated to teach Pakistan a lesson for its acts of terror, was not called off. On the other hand, the cricket boards of both countries decided to foster friendly sporting relations with each other. In such circumstances, India cannot play cricket matches with Pakistan. A huge amount of money invested by Indian sponsors will go to the coffers of the bankrupt Pakistani Cricket Board, which could be used to perpetrate further terror attacks in India," Congress said.

Op Sindoor showcased India's prowess: Modi
Gangaikonda Cholapuram (TN): PrimeMinister Narendra Modi on Sunday said Operation Sindoor has sent a clear message that there is no sanctuary for enemies and terrorists anywhere. PM Modi made these remarks while addressing the public during the valedictory ceremony of the 'Aadi Thiruvathirai' festival, held in honour of King Rajendra Chola I's birth anniversary at the Gangaikonda Cholapuram temple in Ariyalur, Tamil Nadu. Modi also said that Operation Sindoor has sent a clear message to the world that India will respond strongly to any threat against its security and sovereignty. The event was held at the Gangaikonda Cholisvaram temple, a UNESCO-recognised marvel built by Rajendra Chola I. 'Today's India prioritises its security. During Operation Sindoor, the world witnessed that if anyone threatens India's sovereignty, the country will respond in their own language. This operation has instilled a new sense of confidence and ignited a spirit of unity across the nation. There is no haven for India's enemies and terrorists anywhere in the world," the PM said. Offering prayers at the feet of Lord Brihadeeswara, Modi said, 'I prayed for the well-being of 140 crore Indians and the continued progress of the nation. I feel truly blessed to have this opportunity.' He announced that grand statues of Chola emperors Rajaraja Chola and Rajendra Chola will be erected in Tamil Nadu to commemorate their contributions to Indian history and culture. He said the Chola Empire represented a golden era of India, with achievements in architecture, governance, diplomacy, trade, and cultural integration. 'The Cholas established strong political and trade ties with Sri Lanka, the Maldives, and Southeast Asia. It is a coincidence that I returned from the Maldives yesterday, and today I stand here in the land once ruled by these visionary kings,' he remarked.

New Delhi: After a week-long washout, Parliament is all set to return to work on Monday with a debate on Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor in Lok Sabha even as some Opposition parties are expected to raise noise on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Bihar electoral rolls. Singh is expected to be the first speaker, and he will spell out the contours of Operation Sindoor and subsequent developments, including the circumstances of the ceasefire and claims of US President Donald Trump that he brokered the de-escalation. All eyes will be on Singh on whether he would reveal the details of fighter aircraft India lost in the military confrontation, an issue on which the Opposition has been insisting that the government clean. Similarly, it will be keenly watched whether Congress would list Shashi Tharoor as a speaker, as he is at loggerheads with his party over his endorsement of the Modi government on the issue and leading a delegation to the US and other countries. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to intervene in the 'Special Discussion on India's Strong, Successful and Decisive Operation Sindoor in Response to the Terrorist Attack in Pahalgam for which 16 others have been allocated. The debate in the Rajya Sabha will start on Tuesday where also 16 hours is earmarked. The ruling BJP would be highlighting the Indian military's successful dismantlingof terror infrastructure in Pakistan, including Jaish-e-Mohammed headquarters in Bahawalpur and hitting for the first time the Pakistani side of Punjab since the 1971 war. Pant ruled out of England series: Gambhir
Manchester, July 28 (UNI) Star wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant has been officially ruled out of the ongoing Test series against England, India head coach Gautam Gambhir confirmed today, even as he praised Pant's unmatched grit and character displayed during the campaign. 'Rishabh has already been ruled out of the series,' Gambhir said, ending speculation about a potential return for the final Test. But the former opener reserved special words for the injured cricketer, recalling the unforgettable moment when Pant batted despite a fractured foot. 'What he's done for the team, and for the country, is something generations will speak of. Batting with a broken foot isn't something many have done. Any amount of praise won't do justice to that courage.' Gambhir added that Pant's contribution has laid a strong emotional and cultural foundation within the current Indian team setup. 'This team's character is being built on efforts like those. His fighting spirit has inspired the entire group,' he said. While Pant's absence will be felt, the Indian camp received a major boost on the fitness front, with Gambhir confirming that all fast bowlers are currently fit and available for selection. 'There are no injury cases among the quicks. Everyone is match-fit,' he stated. With India trailing 1-2 in the series and one match to go, the team will head into the Oval Test with momentum from their gritty fourth-Test draw and the assurance of a full-strength pace attack—even if one of their biggest match-winners watches from the sidelines.
