Bayern believe they have the edge over Liverpool
In the eyes of the newly crowned Bundesliga champions, Wirtz is a done deal, one way or another.
According to Christian Falk, writing for CF Bayern Insider: "The attacking midfielder had agreed on two potential pathways to Munich. One being an immediate transfer this summer (provided both clubs can agree a fee), and the second being a move delayed to next summer."

As such, the possibility that Wirtz could move to Anfield is completely foreign to their understanding.
He is destined to move to Bayern and the tradition of players moving from one German team to the most successful German team will remain. Everyone else is a feeder club for them.
But it's not quite as straightforward as that in reality, and Liverpool's expedited interest in Wirtz has properly thrown a spanner in the works. There is now an established two-horse race.
Falk adds: "Liverpool's decision makers, led by Michael Edwards, flew to Boston this week to meet Liverpool's owners, Fenway Sports Group, in order to approve the funds for the potential transfer.
"The meeting in the USA was called at short notice following the Wirtz family's visit. The Liverpool bosses' main aim is to snatch the midfielder away from FC Bayern."

Red Sox fans fume over Rafael Devers trade as $100 million conspiracy theory emerges
The Red Sox, somehow, had the best and worst weekend at the same time. While Boston swept the rival Yankees, it was moments after Sunday's matinee game that the joy was ripped away when it was shockingly announced the Red Sox had traded star Rafael Devers to the Giants. Red Sox fans were not prepared for this rollercoaster of emotions and lambasted the franchise for being cheap once again. Advertisement 'Baseball is Dead' podcast host Jared Carrabis took to X to air his feelings about the deal. 3 Former Red Sox third baseman Rafael Devers AP 'How the f–k do you trade Rafael Devers?' Carrabis said. 'For A: That return and B: the moment in which you did it.' Advertisement Ringer founder Bill Simmons presented a theory on X about a possible reason for the trade. The owner of the Red Sox, John Henry, also owns the Premier League-winning soccer team Liverpool. Simmons hinted on X that the possible motive behind the trade was to help finance the newest transfer to Liverpool, Florian Wirtz. Liverpool reportedly paid his former club $100 million for the midfielder. Devers is in the third season of a 10-year, $313 million contract and had been at odds with the team this spring training, after he was moved from third base to DH for the newly signed Alex Bregman. Advertisement It is not the first time ownership has traded one of its star players, much to the frustration of its fan base. Mookie Betts was traded to the Dodgers before the 2020 season for three players who did not pan out. Betts was in the final year of his contract and would sign a 12-year, $365 million deal with Los Angeles — and he has since helped the franchise win two World Series. Advertisement 3 Red Sox owner John Henry AP 3 Liverpool landed midfielder Florian Wirtz in a $100 million transfer. AFP via Getty Images 'I woke up still mad another the Devers trade,' Barstool founder Dave Portnoy wrote on X. 'If you are trying to win you just don't trade your best hitter for nothing in the middle of the season. John Henry and (minority owner) LeBron [James] have turned the Red Sox into the Oakland A's with fancy hubcaps.' It seems like history has repeated itself yet again in Boston. Hopefully, this time, it will work out better.

In BVB's case defender Soumaïla Coulibaly was recalled early from his loan stint with Stade Brest. Advertisement The much bigger news, however, revolves around the fact that Jobe Bellingham – acquired from Sunderland AFC – declined to represent the England U21s in the current UEFA U21 European Championship in favor of participating in this tournament. Kicker reports that Bellingham is an immediate candidate for Kovac's starting XI. Predicting Kovac's starting lineup can prove difficult in that Dortmund, like Bayern, have brought along plenty of young prospects to test out. Veteran midfielders Emré Can and Salih Özcan are missing due to injury. Dortmund may nevertheless follow Bayern's lead and deploy their best players in their opening fixture. Bayern ended up demolishing Auckland City 10-0 in a totally uncompetitive affair. Bayern's full Club World Cup squad can be found here.
