Heavy security in place in Thrissur for Karkidaka Vavu Bali ceremonies
Under the leadership of District Police Chief B. Krishnakumar, a meticulous security plan has been rolled out. The police have ensured that all 87 designated locations under various station limits, including Irinjalakuda, Kattur, Cherpu, Anthikkad, Mala, Alur, Chalakudy, Koratty, Athirappilly, Kodakara, Vellikulangara, Puthukkad, Varandarappilly, Kodungallur, Mathilakam, Kaipamangalam, Valappad, and Vatanappilly, are equipped with adequate lighting, warning signage, public address systems, and vantage surveillance points to monitor river access.
In addition to this, scuba diving and rescue teams, ambulances, and emergency response units will be stationed at all major venues. To manage traffic and crowd flow, police personnel will be strategically positioned at major junctions and access routes.
Pink Police units
Enhanced patrolling, especially for the security of women and children, will be led by SI Soumya E.U. from the Women's Police Station and SI Ramya Karthikeyan from the Cyber Police Station. Two Pink Police patrol units have also been deployed.
Strict patrolling and precautionary measures have been implemented in and around all bali-offering locations. With high tide and river currents intensified due to ongoing heavy rain, the police have prohibited devotees from entering deep waters in rivers and the sea, citing safety concerns.
25,000 people expected
Though the rituals officially begin at 12.30 a.m. on July 24 and continue till 10 a.m., crowds are expected to start gathering from the midnight of July 23, especially at areas like Arattupuzha Mandaramkadavu (Cherpu), Koodapuzha (Chalakudy), and Kaara (Kodungalloor).
Last year, approximately 20,000 people participated in the ritual. This year, the number is expected to cross 25,000.

Liquor outlets to remain closed for Vavu Bali
Thiruvananthapuram : District administration declared the closure of liquor shops on July 24 in connection with Karkidaka Vavu Bali. District collector Anu Kumari ordered the closure of all liquor outlets within the limits of the city corporation, Varkala municipality and Aruvikkara and Perunkadavila grama panchayats. The prohibition on liquor sales will be in effect from July 23 midnight to 2pm on July 24. The collector stated that the ban was implemented to prevent untoward incidents and ensure law and order, as a large number of people, including women and children, were expected to gather for the ritual at Thiruvallam Parasurama Temple, Varkala Papanasam beach, Aruvikkara Devi Temple and Aruvippuram Shiva Temple. Hundreds of temples, especially those which share a compound with a river, provide facilities to people to offer bali tharpanam on the Vavu Bali day.

BJP protests over sanitation worker recruitment turn violent at Thiruvananthapuram corporation office
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The city corporation office on Wednesday witnessed multiple protests by the BJP over the alleged irregularities and corruption in the recruitment of sanitation workers. The situation turned tense when the party dharna in front of the mayor's office turned violent. Mayor Arya Rajendran released a statement accusing BJP councillors of attempting to disrupt a crucial meeting to review preparations for Karkidaka vavu bali. Deputy mayor P K Raju, who demanded that the review meeting be held without interference, was allegedly manhandled by BJP members. He filed a formal complaint with Museum Police. However, BJP refuted the allegations. 'We were peacefully protesting in front of the mayor's office and the review meeting was held without any disturbance. They are raising baseless allegations to cover the corruption. The deputy mayor tried to provoke us and his complaint is baseless,' said M R Gopan, BJP parliamentary party leader. The march of the Yuva Morcha, the youth wing of the BJP, to the corporation office also turned violent. Around 12:30pm, the protesters reached the corporation premises, where police had set up barricades. However, protesters toppled the barricades, which forced the police to use water cannons. BJP has announced another protest march to the corporation office on Thursday.
