Set for completion in 2027, this futuristic hub is more than just high-speed WiFi and electric buses. Aion Sentia is the brainchild of My Aion Inc., an Italian AI firm teaming up with Bold Technologies, part of Bold Holding. The whole thing is backed by a whopping Dhs9 billion BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer) agreement, meaning it's not just a cool concept – it's actually happening.
But what makes this different from other 'smart city' promises? Instead of bouncing between disconnected apps, Aion Sentia works like one seamless digital brain. Want to reduce your energy bill? EDGE signs Dhs9 billion naval contract with Kuwait ministry
EDGE, one of the world's leading advanced technology and defence groups, has announced the signing of a major Dhs9 billion ($2.45 billion) defence contract with the Kuwait Ministry of Defence for the supply of FALAJ3 62-metre missile boats. The FALAJ 3-class missile boat has also been selected by the UAE Navy, with the first vessel, ALTAF, formally commissioned into service in February 2025. This operational deployment reflects the vessel's proven capability and performance in regional waters. With the latest agreement, these advanced 62-metre vessels are tailored to meet Kuwait's operational requirements, offering high performance, advanced combat systems, and enhanced capabilities for littoral defence operations. This latest contract reinforces EDGE's position as a trusted partner for customers seeking turnkey defence solutions and integrated long-term support, while driving the UAE's strategic objectives for defence exports and industrial collaboration. In March this year, EDGE, one of the world's leading advanced technology and defence groups, and CMN NAVAL, a world-renowned naval shipbuilding group specialising in the design, engineering, and construction of superior naval and commercial vessels, and mega yachts, have formally agreed to create a new Abu Dhabi-based shipbuilding joint venture (JV) named AD NAVAL (ADN). Leveraging an existing order pipeline worth approximately EUR 7 billion, the JV will bring together both companies under an exclusivity agreement on the segment of high value small to mid-size naval vessels including Corvettes, Offshore Patrol Vehicles (OPVs), High-speed Interceptors, Trimarans, and Landing Craft. The move will see EDGE significantly expand the scope of its capabilities in the naval domain. EDGE, holding a 51 percent stake in the new company, will collaborate with CMN NAVAL on sales, commercial activities, and engineering. It will also establish a design bureau which will assume intellectual property rights for all future designs. The JV will grant EDGE access to CMN NAVAL's global supply chain and its advanced Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) system and software, enhancing cost efficiency and operational performance through predictive and preventative maintenance, as well as the provision and management of all spare parts. The scope of the JV will also explore Combat Systems Integration (CSI) of EDGE's advanced autonomous air and sea, and smart weapons solutions onto vessels built by the new company. ALTÉRRA backs Absolute Energy to develop gigawatt-scale renewable energy capacity in Italy
ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD) ALTÉRRA, the UAE's $30 billion climate investment vehicle, has announced a €50 million commitment via the ALTÉRRA Acceleration Fund to Absolute Energy, a forward-thinking Italian renewable energy platform. The co-investment, made alongside global infrastructure investment manager I Squared Capital, aims to fast-track the development of an initial 1.4GW active pipeline of projects across Italy. Absolute Energy is focused on the swift deployment of multiple commercially viable small to medium-scale solar projects throughout the country. Through this initial phase — comprising 1.4GW of solar and battery storage capacity — and with a broader development pipeline exceeding 6GW, Absolute Energy is positioned to become a next-generation Independent Power Producer (IPP), advancing Italy's decarbonisation and energy independence objectives. ALTÉRRA estimates that the 1.4GW pipeline could eliminate up to 380,000 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO₂e) emissions annually. Italy has set a national target of adding 46GW of new solar capacity by 2030 in support of its net-zero ambitions. Low cost airlines may launch standing only seats by 2026
In a move that's bound to spark debate among travelers, several budget airlines are reportedly considering the introduction of standing-only seating by 2026. The controversial new seating concept, designed by Italian manufacturer Aviointeriors, aims to boost capacity and cut costs—but it may come at the expense of passenger comfort. The innovative design, known as the Skyrider 2.0, features padded, bicycle-style saddle seats that allow passengers to lean at an angle rather than sit fully. Unveiled at the Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg back in 2018, the Skyrider 2.0 promises to increase aircraft capacity by up to 20%. According to Instagram account @entrepreneurshipquote, which has 2.8 million followers, the bicycle-style seats will allow passengers to lean at an angle without completely sitting down. The account further said it could be introduced as early as 2026. Aviointeriors claims that the new design allows for an "ultra-high-density" cabin configuration, opening air travel to a broader market by offering more affordable ticket options. The seats are said to weigh 50% less than traditional economy seats and feature fewer components, reducing maintenance costs for airlines. A previous version of the Skyrider was introduced in 2010 but failed to gain traction. While no airlines have officially confirmed plans to install the seats, Aviointeriors has hinted that implementation could begin as early as 2026—initially on short-haul flights lasting up to two hours. One of the most vocal proponents of the concept has been Ryanair CEO Michael O'Leary, who previously expressed interest in installing standing-room berths on Boeing 737 aircraft, potentially offering ultra-low-cost tickets priced between £1 and £5. Despite the financial appeal, public reaction on social media has been largely negative. Critics have slammed the concept as inhumane and uncomfortable. 'This is pathetic. Treat humans like humans,' one user commented. Another joked, 'Soon they'll strap you to the wing with an oxygen mask.' Others urged passengers to boycott such seating altogether: 'Please never buy these tickets! Don't support this,' wrote one commenter, while another bluntly added, 'I know slave ship seating when I see it. I'll pass.' Whether the Skyrider 2.0 takes off—or remains grounded—will likely depend on how airlines balance cost savings with customer satisfaction.
