Zelensky prepares to woo Trump one last time
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in Berlin this morning, where at 3pm local time he will speak to Donald Trump and his vice president J.D. Vance over video alongside other European leaders to discuss an end to the war in Ukraine. The German Chancellor Friedrich Merz brokered the meeting following the news that the American president would be meeting Vladimir Putin in Alaska this coming Friday to discuss a peace deal – without Zelensky present. Ahead of Zelensky's summit with Trump and Vance, the Ukrainian president and Merz will first convene a virtual meeting with his strongest European allies. Scheduled for 2pm Berlin time, they will be joined by British PM Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, Italy's Giorgia Meloni, EU and Nato chiefs Ursula von der Leyen and Mark Rutte, as well as the leaders of Poland, Finland and the European Council. The aim of this preliminary meeting is to agree on a joint position on how best to present Ukraine's case to Trump ahead of his meeting with Putin in two days' time. The American President's declaration earlier this week that he would be discussing 'land swaps' with his Russian counterpart has caused alarm with Zelensky and his allies, who are concerned that Trump could sign away Ukrainian territory to the Kremlin without consultation or permission. Ukraine's European allies are said to be weighing up an attempt to extract a promise from the President not to do so – although given his volatile nature, any such promise from Trump, even if it did materialise, would bear little weight. They reportedly also plan to warn Trump not to trust any promises made by Putin to stick to a ceasefire, as well as discuss how best to prepare Ukraine for eventual full peace negotiations. Merz and Zelensky will then debrief on the meeting with Trump and Vance alongside the other members of the 'Coalition of the Willing' – those countries, pulled together by Starmer and Macron, who have expressed a desire to back Ukraine financially and militarily in the event of a peace deal with Russia. The public won't have long to wait to hear how today's discussions go: Merz and Zelensky will hold a joint press conference at 4pm local time. Nevertheless, with the notoriously thin-skinned Trump holding Ukraine's fate in his unpredictable hands, don't expect either Merz or Zelensky to air any disagreements with the President that may surface in the coming hours.

David Lammy facing hefty fine for ILLEGALLY fishing with JD Vance on UK trip – months after taxi fare debacle
DAVID Lammy broke the law when he went fishing with JD Vance last week - because he did not have a licence. The Foreign Secretary has turned himself in to the environment watchdog and is now liable for a fine. 2 He cast off with the US Vice President last week when hosting him at his Chevening grace-and-favour estate. But he did not possess a rod licence which is a requirement in England and Wales even on private land. People caught fishing without a valid rod rushing licence can be fined up to £2,500 by the Environment Agency. Mr Lammy has since purchased a licence and dobbed himself into the quango admitting the 'oversight'. The Foreign Secretary himself said he did not catch any fish, although Mr Vance said his kids successfully hooked some. All fish were returned to the waters of the Kent country home after he and the Vice President cast off with their families last Friday - the first time Mr Lammy had fished at Chevening. A Foreign Office spokesperson said: 'The Foreign Secretary has written to the Environment Agency over an administrative oversight that meant the appropriate licences had not been acquired for fishing on a private lake as part of a diplomatic engagement at Chevening House last week. "As soon as the Foreign Secretary was made aware of the administrative error, he successfully purchased the relevant rod fishing licences. 'He also wrote to the Environment Agency notifying them of the error, demonstrating how it would be rectified, and thanking them for their work protecting Britain's fisheries.' A Labour source added: 'There's nothing fishy to see here. The Foreign Secretary isn't much of a fisherman but he landed a big diplomatic catch getting the Vice President to stay for the weekend at Chevening. 'As soon as he learned of the administrative error he got the relevant licences and notified the Environment Agency to avoid getting caught up.' Mr Lammy has successfully struck up a friendship with the US Vice President, who is currently on a family holiday in the Cotswolds. It is not his first diplomatic blunder in the role, after entering a row with a taxi driver over payment earlier this year. The taxi driver alleged the Foreign Secretary said 'f***ing French', although Mr Lammy has disputed his account. 2

Protesters to welcome JD Vance to Scotland
Donald Trump's second-in-command is set to arrive at Prestwick Airport today according to reports. Police Scotland have prepared a "significant policing operation' to secure a luxury estate in Ayrshire that he is reportedly set to stay at. READ MORE: JD Vance panned for 'lies about Scotland' ahead of luxury Ayrshire holiday Activists from Mothers Against Genocide and Stop Trump UK have issued call-outs on social media for protesters to gather at 5.50pm for a 6pm start outside of the estate Vance is staying at. "We are calling on everyone to look out their pots and pans to join us and Stop Trump UK to make noise for Gaza who are being deliberately starved and shot at aid distribution sites," the posts reads. The groups added: "America could stop this horror today. Instead, JD Vance is holiday-ing in Kilmarnock, where he is hunting and fishing while he is complicit in starving an entire population. "Come down to the Carnell Estate and join us to make as much noise as possible for the people of Gaza." It is unclear whether the motorcade carrying Vance will pass the protest given the number of entrances to the estate. Vehicles stopping outside of the estate are likely to be moved on. How long is JD Vance expected to be in Scotland? The US vice president is expected to stay in the Ayrshire estate for five days. The Carnell Estates previously hosted Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie and their family while filming for World War Z took place in Glasgow in 2011. Owned by Michael Findlay, the Carnell Estates have been in the same family's hands since the 1300s and are run by Findlay and his partner Adrienne Eastwood. The estates feature a private manor house, a 14th-century tower and gardens, set within more than 2000 acres of parkland. It is located just 15 minutes from Prestwick Airport.
