Mumbai, May 18 (PTI) Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut has claimed the primary reason behind the Enforcement Directorate arresting him in an alleged money laundering case was because he stopped the BJP from coming to power in Maharashtra in 2019.
'The primary reason behind (the ED) action against me was I stopped the BJP from coming to power. I also stood as a protective wall in defence of the Thackeray government. After that the Thackeray government collapsed.
'The (Eknath) Shinde government was formed through unconstitutional means. Both Shinde and (then Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis) must have agreed on one thing that if the government has to function, Raut must be behind bars,' he claimed.
Raut said the BJP was hurt that it had to sit in the opposition despite bagging 105 seats (in the 288-member assembly in the 2019 polls).
'With Sena joining hands with Sharad Pawar-led NCP, the BJP had to sit in the opposition. The BJP considered Raut the reason why it could not form the government in Maharashtra in 2019.The BJP always had this regret,' he claimed.
The BJP and the Shiv Sena had contested the 2019 assembly polls together. But the Sena parted ways with the BJP over the post of chief minister.
Later it became a part of the Maha Vikas Aghadi comprising the Congress and the (undivided) NCP. The MVA government was led by Thackeray.
The Rajya Sabha MP, known to be a fierce critic of the BJP, said the former ally could not see Uddhav Thackeray as the CM in 2019 so its leaders plotted to topple his government.
With the government having a majority of 170 MLAs, it was not possible that their 'Operation Lotus' would succeed, he said.
'Which is why central agencies entered the battlefield. Anil Deshmukh, Nawab Malik and Sanjay Raut were fixed as targets,' he said.
The federal agency had decided upon a political agenda and had made a list of MVA leaders to be arrested in Maharashtra. The list included Deshmukh, Malik and Raut, the book claimed.
Deshmukh and Malik, both from the NCP, were ministers in the Thackeray government.
The ED had tightened its noose around 11 of the 40 MLAs (including Shinde) of the undivided Shiv Sena who revolted against Thackeray. The ED was also going to arrest some of the MPs of the undivided Shiv Sena, Raut claimed. PTI PR BNM

Dept inquiry gives clean chit to CBI judge suspended on corruption charges
Chandigarh: In a major respite to suspended special CBI Judge Sudhir Parmar -- who was arrested by (ED) in connection with alleged bribery and favouritism in a Rs 400 crore money-laundering scam involving real estate developers -- a departmental committee has given him the clean chit in the case. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now However, the report of the inquiry officer, which cleared him of the charges, is yet to be accepted by the high court administration. Judge Parmar was facing charges of alleged misconduct, involving abuse of his position to benefit the accused in ED and CBI cases under his jurisdiction. Highly placed sources in the high court administration confirmed to TOI that Nirbhow Singh Gill, Jalandhar district and sessions judge, who was appointed the enquiry officer by Vigilance Disciplinary Committee (VDC) of the HC administration, did not find much against Parmar. The report of the enquiry officer has already been submitted to HC. Now, it will be considered by VDC before being finally taken up before the full court for a final decision. The regular departmental enquiry against Parmar was handed over to Gill on Oct 3, 2024, by VDC. While Gill was the enquiry officer, Dharminder Paul Singla, additional district judge, Jalandhar, was the presenting officer. On Oct 19, 2024, both officers started the enquiry, examining several witnesses and evidence related to the controversy. The proceedings were conducted in accordance with Haryana Civil Services (Punishment & Appeal) Rules, 2016. The rules, however, provide that the inquiry report is submitted before the disciplinary/punishing authority, which is obliged to take action after supplying a copy of the report to the accused employee. Once the order of exoneration or penalty is imposed, disciplinary proceedings come to an end. The clean chit to Parmar, if accepted by HC administration, would also come as a setback to Haryana state vigilance and anti-corruption bureau that first reported to the high court administration about the alleged involvement of Parmar, who was then posted as special judge-Panchkula and hearing high-profile cases related to CBI and ED. The criminal case is currently pending against Paramar. On April 27, Punjab and Haryana high court administration suspended him. Parmar also remained behind bars from Aug 10, 2023, to Nov 2, 2023, after ED arrested him in connection with this case. ED claimed that its investigation revealed that Parmar, then posted as special judge for CBI and ED cases at Panchkula, was showing favouritism to some accused persons. The suspended judge's brother, Ajay Parmar, was also arrested by the central agency in this matter. The allegations against Parmar had come as a rude shock in judicial circles, as he was considered an upright officer of Haryana Superior Judicial Services. He was appointed as special CBI judge-Panchkula after clearance of his record / antecedents by several agencies. Revanth invokes Telugu pride, urges unity for Justice Reddy's VP bid
Hyderabad: Hours after the INDIA bloc announced former Supreme Court judge Justice B Sudershan Reddy as its vice-presidential candidate, chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Tuesday made an impassioned appeal to Telugu parties across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana to rise above politics and rally behind the "son of the soil." "It is an election between saving the Constitution, reservations, and democracy, which Justice Reddy represents, versus CP Radhakrishnan, the BJP-led NDA's candidate who stands for changing the Constitution, abolishing reservations, and undermining democratic principles," Revanth said. Making it clear that Justice Reddy is an 'apolitical' candidate, Revanth urged leaders of all parties — TDP, YSRCP, BRS, AIMIM, Jana Sena, Left, and even BJP MPs from both states — to support him. Revanth reminded that Justice Reddy had chaired the independent panel that studied Telangana's caste survey. "If he is elected vice-president, he will play a crucial role in getting 42% reservations for OBCs approved. He knows the survey in depth and has advised the state govt on ensuring justice for Backward Classes. He will be the strongest voice of OBCs in Parliament," he asserted. To questions on his role in finalising the candidature, Revanth said: "Justice Reddy is INDIA bloc's choice. He gave a presentation on caste survey analysis to MPs in Delhi, and they recognised his worth as a constitutional expert." Though both candidates are from the South, Revanth accused the BJP of trying to deepen north-south divides. "Congress and the INDIA bloc are fighting to unite the country. At least the 60 MPs — 42 in the Lok Sabha and 18 in the Rajya Sabha — from the two Telugu states must come together to support Justice Reddy," he said. Drawing on NTR's legacy Revanth also invoked former Andhra Pradesh CM NT Rama Rao's statesmanship.
