Shea Langeliers hits 3 homers as Athletics beat Nationals 16-7
Langeliers opened the game with a drive to center off MacKenzie Gore for his 20th homer. The 27-year-old catcher hit another leadoff shot in the fifth and the seventh.
Langeliers scored four times and finished with 15 bases. He became the fourth catcher with multiple three-homer games in a career — joining Hall of Famers Johnny Bench and Gary Carter, and Travis d'Arnaud. Langeliers and d'Arnaud are the only two to hit three from the leadoff spot.
Langeliers also connected for three homers in a 4-3 victory at Texas on April 9, 2024.
JJ Bleday had four hits for the A's for the second straight game. He homered and finished with six RBIs.
Darell Hernaiz also went deep, and Nick Kurtz scored four times. Brent Rooker finished with four hits and three RBIs.
A's right-hander Luis Severino (6-11) permitted three runs in six innings in his fourth consecutive win.
The last-place Nationals dropped their sixth consecutive game. They have surrendered 103 hits during the slide.
Gore (4-12) was charged with eight runs and 12 hits in three-plus innings. PJ Poulin pitched a scoreless inning in his debut after seven minor league seasons.
Bleday greeted Clayton Beeter with a two-run drive in the fourth, giving the A's a 9-0 lead.
The A's finished with 24 hits for their best total since they had 25 on Sept. 10, 2019, in a 21-7 road win over the Astros.
Left-hander Jeffrey Springs (10-7, 4.00 ERA) starts for the A's on Wednesday. The Nationals hadn't announced their starting pitcher.

Former Notre Dame lineman Howard Cross III making waves for the Cincinnati Bengals in camp
It wasn't a surprise when new Cincinnati Bengals defensive coordinator Al Golden pushed the team to pick up one of his former Notre Dame players in defensive tackle Howard Cross III. Golden knows exactly what the defender brings to the table, and while he went undrafted, the Bengals quickly made a move to sign him. Cross wasn't guaranteed a spot on the roster due to this fact, but he has been playing very well and might be pushing Cincinnati to keep him around. Their head coach Zac Taylor recently spoke to the media about Cross, and gave a glowing review. He said that his undrafted rookie defensive tackle 'has shown the ability to do the things we're asking those guys to do. Do the dirty work and do it how we want it done.' It's pretty safe to say that Golden knew that Cross could be productive at this level, and them getting a chance to reunite should be great for both of their careers. Brewers claim 10th straight game and become 1st team since 2019 with 2 double-digit win streaks
MILWAUKEE — The Milwaukee Brewers became the first MLB team since 2019 with multiple winning streaks of 10 or more games. However, any excitement over that particular accomplishment is tempered by the bigger picture. The Brewers extended their current win streak to 10 with a 7-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates. Earlier in the season, Milwaukee won 11 straight, and with the victory join the Houston Astros (2019 and 1969), Los Angeles Dodgers (2017), Toronto Blue Jays (2015), Atlanta Braves (2013), St. Louis Cardinals (2001), Pittsburgh Pirates (1978), Kansas City Royals (1977) and the New York Mets (1969) as the only teams to have two double-digit wins streaks since MLB expanded in 1969, according to 'Honestly, nobody cares about what we have done the past month,' Brewers slugger Christian Yelich said. 'It's all great, but we have bigger goals than winning 74 games or whatever it is. That's great, but that wasn't really our goal going into the season. We have bigger aspirations than that.' Yelich's home run snapped a 1-all tie and highlighted Milwaukee's four-run third inning. 'It's hard to win just one game in the major leagues,' Yelich said. 'We've done it just by being present, focusing on the current day and not thinking about previous days or what we have ahead of us. Staying present in the moment, talking about, figuring out what we have to do to win that night.' José Quintana (10-4), Milwaukee's winning pitcher, is enjoying the ride as the Brewers improved to 30 games over .500 at 74-44 and moved 6 1/2 games ahead of the idle Chicago Cubs (67-50) in the NL Central. 'It's been fun the way we've been playing, all the energy we have around,' Quintana said.
