
UP govt mandates QR licences for food vendors during Kanwar Yatra
Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA) commissioner Rajesh Kumar, in a circular to regional officers, ordered 'uncompromising vigilance' at food stalls, roadside vendors, and bhandaras (community kitchens). He warned that any lapse in hygiene enforcement would lead to disciplinary action against officials.
Under the updated protocol, food stalls and kitchens along the Kanwar Yatra route will undergo round-the-clock inspections. Health officials will conduct daily sampling, with the power to take immediate action against those found to be flouting food safety norms.
'Pilgrims come here for spiritual healing, not food poisoning,' a senior FSDA officer said, underlining that even voluntary kitchens will be subject to routine checks.
The integration of QR codes aims to increase transparency and accountability. Pilgrims can scan the code to verify if a vendor is licensed and view complaint information. Any reported violations will be tracked through the Food Safety Connect App, giving devotees a direct channel to raise concerns.
Alongside health surveillance, the government will continue to enforce the existing ban on meat and egg sales along the route, maintaining religious sanctity during the Yatra.
The FSDA is working with district officials, police, and civic bodies to carry out waste disposal drives, crack down on unlicensed vendors, and deploy mobile food testing labs.
Officials confirmed that many of the food safety protocols initiated during last year's Yatra are being reinstated to ensure continuity.
Assistant FSDA Commissioner (Lucknow) VP Singh said, 'This shift in approach reflects a broader trend, where large-scale religious gatherings are increasingly being seen through the dual lens of faith and public safety. Clean food, potable water, and medical oversight are no longer optional; they are essential.'

These efforts are enhancing diagnostic accuracy and enabling personalised preventive care. One of the standout features in the WHO brief is the mention of Ayurgenomics, a scientific breakthrough that combines genomics with Ayurvedic principles. This initiative aims to identify predictive disease markers and personalise health recommendations using AI-based analysis of Ayurvedic constitution types. The document also highlights efforts to decode the genomic and molecular basis of herbal formulations for repurposing in modern disease conditions--a major leap in integrating traditional wisdom with contemporary science. Namibian Female Cheetah, Nabha Dies Of Injuries In Kuno National Park
New Delhi: An 8-year-old female cheetah named Nabha, brought from Namibia as part of India's ambitious cheetah reintroduction program, died today at Kuno National Park following injuries sustained last week. According to an official press note issued by the Field Director of the Cheetah Project, Nabha was likely injured during a hunting attempt inside her Soft Release Boma. She suffered fractures in both her ulna and fibula on the left side, along with other injuries. Despite receiving treatment for a week, she succumbed to her wounds. Authorities await a post-mortem report for further details. All remaining cheetahs are reportedly healthy and doing well. Two additional male cheetahs housed at the Gandhisagar Sanctuary are also in good condition. Of the 26 cheetahs in Kuno, 16 have been released into the wild and are adapting successfully. Officials say the animals have acclimated to their new habitat, are coexisting with other predators, and are actively hunting. Recent veterinary efforts included the successful administration of anti-ecto-parasitic treatment to all cheetahs. Two female cheetahs, Veera and Nirva, have recently given birth and are reportedly in good health along with their cubs.
