Jeremy Clarkson makes motoring show return after announcing retirement

Independent20-02-2025

Jeremy Clarkson will make his return to the TV motoring genre in a forthcoming episode of Car SOS.
The former Top Gear host, 64, took a step back from the genre after the final episode of The Grand Tour aired in September 2024, which he co-hosted with longtime collaborators James May and Richard Hammond.
Clarkson has been focussing his attention on his Diddy Squat farm, which is the centre of the Amazon series Clarkson's Farm, as well as his brewery company Hawkstone and recently-opened Oxfordshire pub, The Farmer's Dog.
The TV presenter will make a brief return to the motoring genre alongside hosts Tim Shaw and Fuzz Townshend for a special episode of Car SOS, which sees Clarkson help repair and restore an old Land Rover Discovery Series 1. The episode will air in March.
Host Shaw has said in a recent interview that Clarkson kindly allowed the crew to film the final reveal of the motor at his home.
Shaw told The Daily Star: 'Jeremy was happy for us to bring a full coach load of people. I mean, think about it – 60 strangers turning up at your property!'
He said: 'We spent about half an hour with Jeremy and he was warm, friendly, and, of course, typically sarcastic and funny.
'He genuinely cared about the wellbeing of both the team, and most importantly, the car's owner.'
Clarkson departed The Grand Tour after the finale aired in September, which saw the three stars head out in cars they've always wanted to own.
Co-presenter James May recently explained why his TV partnership with Clarkson and Hammond came to an end – saying that it was time to make way for the younger generation.
He said: 'The idea was to land the car show format safely and not fly it into a cliff. We only cleared the cliff by a few feet but I think it will survive.'
May also said he wasn't 'in mourning' over the show's conclusion as he thinks they 'gave the format a really good thrashing and now it's time to let a younger generation have a go'.
Clarkson has continued to present reality series Clarkson's Farm, which follows Clarkson as he owns and operates his own 1,000-acre farm near Chipping Norton, as well as Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? on ITV.
In an Instagram video last November, Clarkson confirmed that Clarkson's Farm had been renewed for a fifth season, with the fourth set to be released soon.
'Over the years bright lights in the sky have been used to make many important announcements, the birth of the baby Jesus for example,' Clarkson told followers.
'But tonight they're being used to make an announcement that's even bigger than that. Season 5 of Clarkson's Farm is coming.'

Paddy McGuinness shares celeb crush amid claims of ex Christine's 'flirty texts'

Paddy McGuinness revealed his surprising celebrity crush when appearing alongside Vernon Kay on Gogglebox - but Vernon's confession led to him having a change of heart Paddy McGuinness has revealed his unexpected celebrity crush. The funnyman and former Top Gear host, 51, made the shock confession during an episode of Celebrity Gogglebox. Paddy was appearing on the popular Channel 4 reality TV show alongside pal Vernon Kay. The pair were watching an episode of Celebrity Bridge when Countdown star Rachel Riley appeared on the screen. ‌ It was then that Paddy confessed to the maths whizz being the crush "he wasn't supposed to have". He blurted out: "There's something about Rachel Riley. I don't know what it is. You know when you have like a celebrity crush that you're not supposed to have." ‌ And Vernon pointed out one detail that he thought would turn Paddy off the blonde haired star. "She's a United fan," the radio host told his mate. "Oh I've gone right off her!" a shocked Paddy responded. His confession came as it was claimed his ex-wife Christine McGuinness had exchanged flirty texts with Dan Osborne. The conversations weren't said to be romantic, but it was reported the duo comforted each other as they dealt with their marriage troubles. Christine and Paddy split in 2022 after 11 years of marriage. They continued to live together to co-parent their three children. Dan, meanwhile, recently went on a make-or-break holiday with wife Jacqueline Jossa. The couple who tied the knot in 2017 announced they were splitting in March after months of speculation. Despite their joint statement they appeared to be willing to give things another go. ‌ It's thought Christine and Dan's exchange came as they found solace in each other's situation and formed a stronger bond. They had first met in 2019 and are said to have sporadically stayed in touch in the years that followed. A source told the Sun earlier this week: "They stayed in touch sporadically and would bump into each other at events and their messages got pretty flirty. Some were seen by mutual friends. ‌ "She would call him 'D' in texts and it became an open secret among their circles. There is no suggestion anything sexual happened, but it's fair to say there was a spark between them." The insider insisted: "She is absolutely adamant nothing sexual happened between them. She also was 100 per cent single at the time and could chat to anyone she wanted.' Former TOWIE star Dan, 33, was also adamant there was no romantic connection between the pair. A pal of the reality star told the publication: "Dan is devoted to Jacqueline and would hate for any suggestion of impropriety. Of course, it's possible for a man and woman to be mates.'

Clarkson Farm fans delighted after star shares 'great' health news

Fans of Clarkson's Farm have been relieved to hear that resident builder Alan Townsend – or Alan the Builder – is doing well following his recent heart surgery. Viewers have grown to love Diddly Squat handyman Alan, who's been integral in helping Jeremy Clarkson open his new pub, The Farmer's Dog. In the fourth series, which is currently airing on Amazon Prime, Alan revealed that he was facing major heart surgery. In scenes filmed last year, the middle-aged builder told Jeremy that he was feeling 'terrified' ahead of his upcoming appointment. 'Yeah, we're in next Tuesday at the hospital. Quadruple bypass coming,' he revealed as he and Jeremy celebrated the pub's opening. He continued: 'I don't even like thinking about it. That's why I keep going to work — keep out of the way. They told me to really just take it easy and stay at home. But if you stay, you'll be worrying to death about it.' Updating fans via an Instagram comment this week, Alan has revealed how that surgery went – and he's now doing vey well, thanks for asking. In a post on Instagram, Alan shared an image of himself with Clarkson's Farm co-star Gerald Cooper, hard at work digging a hole in the property. 'Gerald and Alan digging post holes at their age??' Alan captioned the image. Talk quickly turned to Alan's heart surgery, with one fan pointing out how healthy the builder was looking. 'Alan how did the heart surgery go? It looks like it went well!' asked ohboymikoi in the comments below. 'Brilliant thank you x' replied Alan. Other fans were quick to congratulate Alan on his recovery, with canadiancooking writing: 'Really happy to hear! Hello from Canada!' 'Thank f*ck. just finished the show now and came looking straight away. Good man,' said thatseanyfellow. 'Glad the op went well buddy. Just finished the last episode 🙌' commented 'Alan; the nation is behind you and your recovery. Glad to see you looking well pal,' said 19robs88. Alan was instrumental in the opening of Jeremy's latest venture, The Farmer's Dog. Located near Burford in Oxfordshire, the pub opened its doors in August last year, following the success of his Diddly Squat farm shop. However, not everyone was thrilled with Jeremy's approach to land-lording, which features £60 merchandise, and eye-watering £5.50 pints. He also revealed an £85 date night menu – and was hit with fresh controversy after using an AI image to advertise the event. In the picture, a pie with bunny ears popping out sits next to a squirrel on a chopping board and plated animal brains. More Trending 'Fed up with beige, safe food? Want to try new things? Difficult things? Weird things?' Jeremy teased. 'This is not an event for the faddy or those of a vegan disposition, as it will have a menu filled with all the things that people normally discard. 'You might hate half of it. But you might go home with a steely determination to eat stomach lining as often as possible.' Jeremy Clarkson's daughter made Lisa Hogan 'burst into tears' with comment

Clarkson's girlfriend Lisa recently opened up about her life with the celeb and their tight-knit blended family. Jeremy Clarkson' s partner Lisa Hogan has confessed she burst into tears after a comment made by his daughter, Emily. Hogan recently lifted the lid on her life with the former Top Gear star, revealing that although they aren't engaged, their blended family is extremely close. Emily made a touching comment that left Lisa in bits, the former model explained. Clarkson's daughter Emily, a social media influencer and author, has previously spoken about Lisa's daughter in a very touching way, she said. The 51-year-old explained: "Emily has this podcast called Shall I Delete That? and she spoke about my daughter in such a sweet way that I burst out crying. They've known each other for nine years, and I think they really care about each other." ‌ She also gave some insight into Jeremy's personality away from the public eye, describing him as curious, energetic and enthusiastic, even over the little things. When discussing the idea of marriage, Lisa expressed that she is happy with the way things are, telling the Daily Mail: "Mrs Clarkson? No, thank you, I like Lisa Hogan. We decided not to have children together." ‌ She went on to explain why the pair decided not to have kids together, emphasising their happiness with life as it stands. She said: "We're at a stage where we are not going to have kids. I'm just happy pootling along. I think because of our age, it's much easier." With the new series of Clarkson's Farm, all eyes have been on Lisa and Jeremy's relationship. But it's Jeremy's health that's sparked even more concern following his heart surgery last year, when he had two stents fitted, reported The Mirror. Jeremy observed how he had felt increasingly unwell as the previous series of the show went on. ‌ Speaking to The Sun, Jeremy said: "You can see me becoming more and more ill as the days go on, because I just lose my sense of humour, lose my ability to stay calm. "I get in a proper old panic. I didn't know at the time. I knew I wasn't being me. Because if you don't sleep, it very quickly has an effect." After the surgery, Clarkson admitted he had to get used to a new way of life, abstaining from alcohol and adopting a healthy diet. ‌ Lisa also recently opened up about her clever trick to stop Jeremy from interrupting her during discussions. She explained she has discovered a way to avoid arguing with him, adding: "I'm more conniving than that. Why argue with someone like Jeremy? ‌ "He's so eloquent. I have to be a bit more… nimble. I like the long-term diplomatic approach.' Lisa also gave insight into her partner's personality when the cameras are not rolling. She said: "He's always incredibly inquisitive. His mind is always on the move. He'll come in fizzing with energy about the smallest thing. I like that." Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community!
