German Vincent Keymer played out a draw against Vidit Gujrathi in the fifth round of the Masters section in the Quantbox Chennai Grandmasters chess tournament 2025, and remain ahead of the field, here on Monday. Local lad V. Pranav, the current World junior champion, played a solid game to hold top seed Arjun Erigaisi in 78 moves which allowed Keymer to retain his advantage. It was another creditable result for the 18-year-old, who had drawn with Vidit and Anish Giri in the previous rounds. 'I was preparing a lot for d4. I did not have a lot of time to prepare for e4. This line, which I played today, I had originally planned for Anish Giri a few days back. I thought it would be a good plan against Arjun, too,' said Pranav. The 20-year-old German Keymer, who has an one-point lead in the standings, faces Arjun with white pieces in the sixth round in a battle between the top two. Nihal Sarin and American Awonder Liang played out a quick 29-move draw while the Anish Giri-Karthikeyan Murali encounter too ended in a stalemate. Dutchman Jorden van Foreest scored the only win of the day in the Masters section, putting it across American Ray Robson Abhimanyu still in lead In the Challengers section, Abhimanyu Puranik outwitted D. Harika in 39 moves in an English Opening game for his fourth straight victory and maintain his one-point lead at the top of the table. His meeting with M. Will Ashwin Join RR As Part Of Samson's Trade Deal? Ex-India Spinner Gives Big Update
Last Updated: Ashwin was signed for Rs 9.75 crore by CSK in the IPL 2025 mega auction, and in the cash-rich league this year, he played nine matches but was only able to take 7 wickets. Former Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was part of the Chennai Super Kings' team in IPL 2025. He was signed for Rs 9.75 crore by the Chennai-based franchise ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, and in the 18th edition of the world's richest franchise cricket league, he picked up seven wickets in nine matches for them in addition to scoring 32 runs with the bat. Ashwin's performance by his own standards was a very forgettable one in the IPL this year, and as a result there were talks about CSK releasing him ahead of the IPL 2026 auction. It was reported last week that Ashwin has asked CSK to release him, and there were also reports that he could join Rajasthan Royals, for whom he played from 2022 to 2024, as part of a trade deal for Sanju Samson. When asked if he is going to be part of CSK in the IPL next year by Vimal Kumar, Ashwin said, 'Mere hath mein kuch nahi hai. Maine sirf clarity manga hai… mera abhi communication kuch hua nahi hai. Clarity toh maine bahut pehle he manga. Maine kya kiya, mera role kaisa hai, mai kaise better kar sakta hu – ye sab sawal maine already puch liya hai kyuki maine last year 9 games khela tha. In all these years of playing in the IPL, that was the first year jisme maine sirf 9 games khela. Hamesha mein har game khela tha, jo bhi franchise ke liye mai khela. So clarity meri taraf se manga maine; IPL ke time par he mang liya tha." 'Abhi tak mujhe koi information nahi hai. Classified information nahi hai ki Sanju idhar (CSK) aa raha hai aur mai udhar (RR) ja raha hu." If CSK decide to trade Samson ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, then the Chennai-based team will have to sign him for Rs 18 crore – the price for which Samson was retained by RR ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. Or they can trade him in a player deal, but for that Ashwin won't be enough because Samson's price in IPL 2025 was Rs 18 crore, whereas Ashwin was signed for Rs 9.75 crore. CSK will have to give Rs 8.25 crore more to RR in addition to Ashwin or include players worth Rs 8.25 crore more to acquire Samson's services. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
