Meta says the launched updates will help users "better connect" with their friends on the app.
If you've noticed some new icons and options while doom scrolling on Instagram, you're not imagining things. The popular social media app owned by Meta rolled out some new updates on Aug. 6, including a location map and the ability to repost public content, the company announced this week.
'People have always come to Instagram to share what they're up to and where they are,' Meta wrote in a press release. 'Now, with reposts, the map, and the 'Friends' tab in Reels, it's easier for you and your friends to stay in touch through the content you're enjoying on Instagram.'
Here's a breakdown of the three latest updates:
🔁 Repost public posts and video reels
Meta announced that Instagram users now have the ability to repost public feed posts and video reels, which is similar to reposting on the social media platform X.
The reposts will show up on friends' and followers' feeds, with a credit to the original creator. A separate reposting tab has also been added to IG users' profiles so that the content can be shared with someone else's followers.
"This gives creators an opportunity to reach even more people," Meta said.
📍 Instagram map
Instagram users can now share their location with specific friends of their choosing with Instagram Map, located at the top of a user's direct messaging inbox. The location sharing option is off unless the user opts in, and they can turn it off anytime.
If they opt in, Meta outlined the controls users have to customize their experience:
Users specifically choose who they share their location with: all followers you follow back (friends), close friends, only selected friends or no one.
They can choose not to share their location within a specific area or with certain people.
The location is updated when the app is opened or when the user returns to the app if it has been running in the background.
Parents and guardians have control over their teens' location-sharing capabilities if they have supervision set up. The parent will get a notification if the teen starts sharing their location.
Any content with a tagged location can show up on the Instagram map, including reels, posts and stories from people that users follow, and it's available 24 hours after it's been posted, according to Meta.
'Regardless of whether you choose to share your location, you can use the map to explore location-based content. From checking out stories from friends who've gone to a concert or finding a new place to hang out from a local creator's reel, there's content to help you and your friends connect with the world around you,' Meta says.
This feature is currently only available in the U.S., but global availability is coming soon.
👫 'Friends' tab in Reels launches globally
Instagram Reels users will also notice a new tab called 'Friends,' located right at the top of Reels. Users can see public Reels content that their friends have interacted with. They can also mute activity from specific people they follow or hide their own likes and comments on reels.
The feature started rolling out earlier this year, but it has now launched globally, Meta announced Wednesday.

Cloud communications infrastructure company Twilio (NYSE:TWLO) announced better-than-expected revenue in Q2 CY2025, with sales up 13.5% year on year to $1.23 billion. On top of that, next quarter's revenue guidance ($1.25 billion at the midpoint) was surprisingly good and 3% above what analysts were expecting. Its non-GAAP profit of $1.19 per share was 13.3% above analysts' consensus estimates. Is now the time to buy Twilio? Find out in our full research report. Twilio (TWLO) Q2 CY2025 Highlights: Revenue: $1.23 billion vs analyst estimates of $1.19 billion (13.5% year-on-year growth, 3.4% beat) Adjusted EPS: $1.19 vs analyst estimates of $1.05 (13.3% beat) Adjusted Operating Income: $220.5 million vs analyst estimates of $202 million (18% margin, 9.2% beat) Revenue Guidance for Q3 CY2025 is $1.25 billion at the midpoint, above analyst estimates of $1.21 billion Adjusted EPS guidance for Q3 CY2025 is $1.04 at the midpoint, below analyst estimates of $1.15 Operating Margin: 3%, up from -1.8% in the same quarter last year Free Cash Flow Margin: 21.4%, up from 15.2% in the previous quarter Customers: 349,000, up from 335,000 in the previous quarter Net Revenue Retention Rate: 108%, up from 107% in the previous quarter Market Capitalization: $19.88 billion 'The company's focus and execution is paying off as Q2 marked another quarter of accelerated year-over-year revenue growth as well as record non-GAAP income from operations and free cash flow,' said Khozema Shipchandler, CEO of Twilio. Company Overview Founded in 2008 by Jeff Lawson, a former engineer at Amazon, Twilio (NYSE:TWLO) is a software as a service platform that makes it really easy for software developers to use text messaging, voice calls and other forms of communication in their apps. Revenue Growth Examining a company's long-term performance can provide clues about its quality. Any business can put up a good quarter or two, but many enduring ones grow for years. Over the last three years, Twilio grew its sales at a 11.6% compounded annual growth rate. Although this growth is acceptable on an absolute basis, it fell short of our standards for the software sector, which enjoys a number of secular tailwinds. This quarter, Twilio reported year-on-year revenue growth of 13.5%, and its $1.23 billion of revenue exceeded Wall Street's estimates by 3.4%. Company management is currently guiding for a 10.3% year-on-year increase in sales next quarter. Looking further ahead, sell-side analysts expect revenue to grow 5.7% over the next 12 months, a deceleration versus the last three years. This projection is underwhelming and implies its products and services will face some demand challenges. Software is eating the world and there is virtually no industry left that has been untouched by it. That drives increasing demand for tools helping software developers do their jobs, whether it be monitoring critical cloud infrastructure, integrating audio and video functionality, or ensuring smooth content streaming. Customer Retention One of the best parts about the software-as-a-service business model (and a reason why they trade at high valuation multiples) is that customers typically spend more on a company's products and services over time. Twilio's net revenue retention rate, a key performance metric measuring how much money existing customers from a year ago are spending today, was 107% in Q2. This means Twilio would've grown its revenue by 6.5% even if it didn't win any new customers over the last 12 months. Trending up over the last year, Twilio has a decent net retention rate, showing us that its customers not only tend to stick around but also get increasing value from its software over time. Key Takeaways from Twilio's Q2 Results We enjoyed seeing Twilio's customer growth accelerate this quarter. We were also glad its revenue guidance for next quarter exceeded Wall Street's estimates. On the other hand, its EPS guidance for next quarter missed. Overall, this print had some key positives. The market seemed to be hoping for more, and the stock traded down 10.6% to $109.65 immediately after reporting. So should you invest in Twilio right now? The latest quarter does matter, but not nearly as much as longer-term fundamentals and valuation, when deciding if the stock is a buy. CO.LAB calls for startups in Sustainable Mobility Accelerator program

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — The Company Lab ( recently announced it is looking for its next cohort of companies to become part of its Sustainable Mobility Accelerator program. The program runs for six weeks, during which participants work in-market, focusing on customer acquisition strategies and pilot implementations. While relocating permanently to Chattanooga isn't required, several past participants have established operations in the city after completing the program. Tasia Malakasis, CEO of spoke with FreightWaves about the company's 16-year history of helping startups scale through its unique accelerator program. The accelerator, part of 16-year history of supporting entrepreneurship, now focuses specifically on mobility innovation, capitalizing on Chattanooga's unique freight ecosystem where an estimated 85% of the nation's goods pass through its highways. 'About three years ago, we made the decision to focus on what we believe very strongly is the competitive advantage for this region,' Malakasis told FreightWaves. 'The way we define sustainable mobility is the future-forward movement of people, goods, energy and data.' What distinguishes from traditional accelerators is its corporate matching approach. 'The differentiator for this program hinges on the fact that we don't accept a team into our program unless we can match them with a corporate partner for potential pilot or first-class customer opportunities,' Malakasis explained. 'The difference is we're going to get you into a market and help you scale, meaning we're making those customer connections and getting you here for a pilot. So, it's a very different model, and I think that's one that's incredibly distinctive and very supportive for a startup,' added Malakasis. Chattanooga is known as the 'Silicon Valley of Freight,' a moniker given by Revolution founder Steve Case due in part to its unique concentration of freight, technology and supply chain companies. The city ranks first in the nation among all metropolitan cities regarding the volume of freight moving through it by truck, according to a study by Cambridge Systematics. Through this 'Freight Alley,' it is estimated that over 80% of all U.S. freight travels through Chattanooga due in part to the convergence of three Interstates – I-75, I-24 and I-59. For this concentration of industry expertise and freight has created fertile ground for mobility startups seeking to connect with established companies. Another benefit is the intersection of energy and telecommunications infrastructure via the Tennessee Valley Authority and EPB, Chattanooga's electric power board. Through EPB's gig-speed and quantum-enabled grid, the city is home to the country's first commercial quantum network. That infrastructure hosts the nation's largest urban testbed for connected vehicle infrastructure, with 120 smart intersections spread across the city. These intersections contain advanced technology being tested through research initiatives at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. ultimate vision is to establish Chattanooga as one of the top destinations for mobility innovation in the United States. For this latest cohort, is looking for startups with traction (post-revenue or in-market pilots) in these specific areas: Connected & Autonomous Vehicles (CAVs) Supply Chain, Logistics & Freight Tech Smart Infrastructure & Intelligent Traffic Systems EVs, Charging, Battery Tech & Grid Optimization AI/IoT for Urban Mobility & Infrastructure Micromobility & Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) Mobility Data & Predictive Analytics To apply, visit The post calls for startups in Sustainable Mobility Accelerator program appeared first on FreightWaves.
