Everything Texans WR Nico Collins said following Day 1 of voluntary OTA workouts
Here's everything Houston Texans Pro Bowl wide receiver Nico Collins said following Day 1 of voluntary OTA workouts at the Methodist Training Center.
Q: On WR Christian Kirk and what he can bring to the offense
Nico Collins: "Everything has impressed me. His work ethic, what he brings to the field, his leadership and just his advice. He is a guy that you need to get advice from. He has been around this game for a long time, so it's only right that you learn from him. I'm glad he is a part of this unit and glad he is a part of this team. It's only right that we build and keep going.'
Q: On being a true number one wide receiver and how that makes him feel in that leadership role
Collins: 'It feels crazy, but it's also a blessing. It shows you that time flies, but also it's a blessing to be in this position. There are a lot of guys that are looking up to me, so it's only right for me to go in and do my best work. Go in and do one percent and be better than I was yesterday. Be a great leader and be the guy that everyone is looking up to. It's only right that I come out here and get better each and every day and that's my goal."
Q: On Nick Caley and learning the new offense
Collins: 'That's what we're here for here OTAs around this time. This is where we learn the offense and learn the little things – football. This is where we find the little things that we need to work on and work on our craft so Sundays are easy. I'm glad that Nick Caley is here. He is dicing things up right now. For the offense, we have to continue to slow it down and learn it, so that we can go out there and operate and have fun doing it.'
Q: On WR Jayden Higgins
Collins: 'That boy is nice man. Both rookie receivers. The type of guys we're bringing in our playmakers. It's an honor to share the field with them and it's only right that we go out there and get each other better. Learn from each other and talk to each other about the route that we see and anything that they need to work on. I'm here, I'm here for them to lean on and I'm here to learn from him as well. That's the only way you can improve on your game. Just having an open mindset and being a learner.'
Q: On what WR Christian Kirk will bring to the offense
Collins: 'Slot magician man. Slot magic man, he is in the slot going crazy. That's one guy you need. Just another playmaker. Another guy in the offense that's going to make plays and that's one of them.'
Q: On participating in Olympic Flag Football
Collins: 'Oh yeah, for sure. We'd get a gold medal. I mean who doesn't want a gold medal. It's a blessing and something I want to be a part of, but if it happen then it happens and if it don't then it don't. It's a goal, it would be fun.'
Q: On who on the team is the best at Flag Football
Collins: 'I'd say Sting, too. He is an athlete and I'll say C.J. [Stroud] too.'
Q: On the mindset to go against Stingley and making each other better
Collins: 'Eager. That's what you want. That's the point and that's part of this game. You're going to line up against the best every play, so there is no reason to go out there and just half ass for no reason. You just have to go out there and compete because I'm getting you better and you're getting me better. I feel like that's the beauty of it. With Sting, Kamari [Lassiter], [Jalen] Pitre – It don't matter who it is. Whole defense and secondary, you know we're about to work and you know it's about to be competitive at practice then after we're going to talk about what we need to work on and things like that. I feel like that's the only way we can build our relationship as a team and as a unit and go to battle on Sundays.'

How Jets' Steve Wilks is challenging Sauce Gardner to reach next level
New Jets defensive coordinator Steve Wilks gave cornerback Sauce Gardner a challenge when the two met after Wilks was hired. 'He's been a Pro Bowl player,' Wilks said. 'How consistent can he be to take it to another level? That's one of the things that I challenged him on Day 1 when we had our conversation. I felt like, and you guys feel the same way, that he's one of the top corners in the league, but that consistency of being that dominant player each and every week, that's what we're looking for and that's been his challenge this offseason. 'He's very gifted, and I told him sometimes your greatest strength is your greatest weakness. He's a guy that sometimes that 85 percent is still better than everybody around him, so his thing is, and I told him, compete against yourself. That's where he has to get better, which he will.' Gardner was first-team All-Pro in his first two seasons but did not have as strong of a season last year. He is eligible for a contract extension, and the Jets face a major decision on how much to invest in the star corner. One knock on Gardner in his career has been his lack of interceptions. Sauce Garnder runs a drill during Jets' minicamp practice on June 11, 2025. Bill Kostroun for New York Post He has three in three years, including one last year. Wilks said Gardner is working on it. 'That's finishing as we talked about, and he's been working on that for us,' Wilks said. 'Taking more time with the Jugs [machine] and getting extra catches in and understanding how to catch the ball away from your body just like a receiver would do. But I always say this, and I know there's a lot of talk about him, but he's only going to be as good as the guys around him, so it's all about trying to make sure that we all, particularly on the back end, pushing in the same direction.' Second-year WR Malachi Corley missed practice again Wednesday with an undisclosed injury. Jets offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand talks with reporters on June 11, 2025. Bill Kostroun for New York Post Corley has missed a lot of time this spring, and it could cost him in a tight competition at wide receiver. Offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand said Corley will have to catch up in training camp. 'That's a great question really for him to ask, 'How do I get myself mentally caught back up, because I wasn't able to get the physical reps this spring?' ' Engstrand said. 'And ultimately, that's going to be what it is, because the other guys do, they have a handful of practices ahead of him and those physical reps. So, he's going to have to find a way to catch himself up with that stuff.' Rookie WR Arian Smith also did not practice Wednesday. LB Quincy Williams was on the field in uniform but did not participate in team drills. QB Justin Fields said he plans on getting together with the wide receivers and tight ends during the break before training camp.

J.K. Dobbins Sends Clear Message on His Free Agency Decision
J.K. Dobbins Sends Clear Message on His Free Agency Decision originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Denver Broncos are entering the 2025 NFL season with a reinforced roster and heightened expectations. After a postseason appearance in 2024, general manager George Payton signed two former San Francisco 49ers, linebacker Dre Greenlaw and safety Talanoa Hufanga, to three-year deals worth $35 million and $39 million, respectively. Advertisement Both former 49ers bring Pro Bowl credentials and playoff experience to a defense that already ranked third in points per game allowed (18.3) last season. With second-year quarterback Bo Nix, 25, looking to build on a successful rookie campaign, Denver has positioned itself as a team to watch in the AFC. But the most notable addition came later in free agency — one that could reshape the Broncos' offensive identity. J.K. Dobbins runs the ball against the New Orleans A. Vasquez-Imagn Images That move was the signing of 26-year-old running back J.K. Dobbins, who joins Denver after a bounce-back season with the Los Angeles Chargers. 'I felt like it was the best fit for me,' Dobbins said. 'Defense is really good, like super good. Quarterback's amazing. I like the RB room. O-line is amazing as well. So, it was a no-brainer... I also heard that it's a good fan base. So that's why I'm here.' A former Ohio State star and 2020 second-round pick, he's totaled 2,252 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns across 37 career games, averaging an impressive 5.2 yards per carry. Advertisement Dobbins rushed for 905 yards and nine touchdowns in 2024, ranking 22nd and 14th in the league, respectively. It marked a full-circle return after an Achilles tear in 2023, a setback that had cast doubt on his long-term explosiveness. Miami Dolphins need a CB and Jaire Alexander cut and suddenly available
MIAMI GARDENS — The Green Bay Packers cut Pro Bowl cornerback Jaire Alexander and he would seem perfect for the Miami Dolphins, about to trade Jalen Ramsey. Right? Well, maybe. Ramsey is not expected to report to Dolphins mandatory mini-camp June 10-12 in Miami Gardens, as the team continues to seek a trade. Advertisement Ramsey, 30, is a seven-time Pro Bowler. Alexander, 28, is a two-time Pro Bowler. Jaire Alexander cut by Packers: Fit for Dolphins? Alexander is fast, athletic, attacks the ball, is a willing tackler and makes plays. The problem is he's often injured. Alexander has averaged only 8.5 games plays over the last four seasons, including seven games played in each of the last two seasons. Alexander has had injuries to his: shoulder, groin, quadriceps, back and knee. The Dolphins, generally, now desire to get younger and add fewer injury-prone players. But the Dolphins are desperate at cornerback and so an incentive-laden one- or two-year deal could make some sense. Advertisement Like many high-profile cornerbacks, Alexander's personality has been at times described as: charismatic, outspoken, passionate, emotional, loud and playful. Miami would have to consider how he would fit into the 2025 locker room. Bookmakers cite Dolphins as Jaire Alexander destination According to odds from the Dolphins are the fourth-most likely team to add Alexander. They say the 49ers, Raiders and Rams are the top three choices. Could Alexander's availability affect what Miami receives in a Ramsey deal? Perhaps. Anything in the range of a fourth-rounder or better would seem acceptable for Ramsey, who is an extremely talented lone wolf prone to mood swings. Advertisement Alexander had five interceptions in 16 games in 2022. Green Bay Packers cornerback Jaire Alexander (23) gestures to the fans before the game against the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field in Chicago on Nov. 17, 2024. The problem is he's hardly played in the three seasons around that campaign. Worth a flier? Stay tuned. Patrick Paul: Miami Dolphins' LT already doing some 'top-tier things.'
