Union Minister JP Nadda hails Centre's approval of disaster relief funds to Himachal, Uttarakhand
New Delhi [India], June 18 (ANI): Union Minister JP Nadda on Wednesday expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for the approval of disaster relief funds under the 'Recovery and Reconstruction Plan' to Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
'I express my heartfelt gratitude to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for approving the 'Recovery and Reconstruction Plan' of Rs 2006.40 crore as relief amount due to natural calamities like floods in the year 2023,' Nadda said in a post on X.

Earlier today, a high-level committee chaired by HM Shah approved Rs 2006.40 crore to Himachal Pradesh under the Recovery and Reconstruction Plan, with the Home Ministry's office highlighting that the Centre stands shoulder to shoulder with states in time of natural calamities.
'The financial assistance provided by the Modi government is an important support to the disaster-affected citizens in dealing with the crisis in Devbhoomi and providing relief to the disaster victims. The Modi government stands with the people of Devbhoomi in every crisis and at the same time, is committed as always to provide all possible help to Himachal,' Nadda said in the post.
According to an official statement from the Ministry of Home Affairs, the High-Level Committee has approved the recovery plan of Rs 2006.40 crore to the State of Himachal Pradesh, which will help the State in carrying out Recovery and Reconstruction activities, arisen due to damage and destruction occurred during 2023 monsoon due to floods, cloudbursts and landslides.
Out of this, Rs 1504.80 crores will be the central share from the Recovery and Reconstruction Funding Window under the National Disaster Response Fund. Earlier, on December 12, 2023, the Ministry of Home Affairs had approved additional financial assistance of Rs 633.73 crore from the NDRF for Himachal Pradesh, which was affected by this disaster.
The Central Government had approved Recovery plans for the state of Uttarakhand of Rs 1658.17 crore, in the aftermath of the Joshimath subsidence and for Sikkim of Rs 555.27 crore, in the aftermath of the GLOF incident of 2023.
The official statement read, Central Government had approved several mitigation projects with overall financial outlay of Rs 7253.51 crore, for mitigating the risks of several hazards in the areas of Urban Floods (Rs. 3075.65 crore), Landslides (Rs.1000 crore), GLOF (Rs. 150 crore), Forest Fire (Rs. 818.92 crore), Lightening (Rs. 186.78 crore) and Drought (Rs. 2022.16 crore)
During the financial year 2024-25, the Central Government has released Rs 20,264.40 crore to 28 States under SDRF and Rs 5,160.76 crore under NDRF to 19 States. Additionally, Rs 4984.25 crore from the State Disaster Mitigation Fund (SDMF) to 19 States and Rs 719.72 crore from the National Disaster Mitigation Fund (NDMF) to 08 States have also been released. Israel-Iran war: first batch of evacuees to arrive in India on Thursday; Keralites trapped in Iran look for help
Amid the deepening war between Israel and Iran in West Asia, the first batch of Indians evacuated by the Central government will land in Delhi on Thursday. The situation in Iran is worrying as Malayalis, who are trapped in that country and majority of whom are students, reached out to the Central and Kerala governments seeking help for their safe evacuation from the strife-torn country. On the other side, Keralites who work in Israel are relatively in a safer position, and none of them approached Kerala or Central governments seeking evacuation help. Speaking to The Hindu, Tharish Rahman, coordinator of 12 Malayali students trapped in Kerman University of Medical Sciences in Iran, said all of them were safe as of Wednesday, as the Kerman region, which is around 1,200 km away from Tehran, had not witnessed any major attack so far. However, the administration on Wednesday asked them to store essential foods such as water and dry fruits as the situation was getting worse by the day. The students had been in touch with Indian embassy officials and Kerala government representatives. 'We hope there would be an evacuation to the Armenian capital by road in two or three days and then an evacuation by air to India from Yerevan in Armenia,' said Mr. Rahman. According to Ajith Kolassery, Chief Executive Officer of NoRKA-Roots, the field agency of the Department of Non-Resident Keralites Affairs (NoRKA) in Kerala, apart from calls from the students trapped in Iran, workers trapped in an oil rig appealed to the State government to provide help. 'Besides, we believe that there would be a total of less than 50 people who belong to the floating population who reached the country as part of small business trips. In the case of Israel, there was no frenetic call seeking help from the State government, although we hope there would be around 10,000 Malayalis in that country,' said Mr. Kolassery. According to Borgian Solomon, former joint secretary of the Israel Malayali Association who has been working in Israel for the past 17 years, 12 Keralites had a narrow escape near Rehovot as a missile launched by Iran directly hit the flat they were staying in. They had moved to the bunker of the building when the air raid siren was sounded. Shortly after they moved into the bunker, the missile struck the flat, destroying the building completely. But this was an isolated incident. Civilians in Israel are relatively safe, as hardly four to five missiles break the Iron Dome's defensive shield when hundreds of missiles are launched into the country by Iran. In case the missiles get past the defensive shield, sirens will be emitted across the city, giving four to minutes for the citizens to move into the bunkers. 'This is enough for the people to move to safe locations, as there are plenty of bunkers under all the buildings. Moreover, hardly any missile struck the inhabited areas in our city,' he said. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said the Resident Commissioner at Kerala House in New Delhi was instructed to provide necessary facilities for returning Keralites. Accommodation will be provided at the Kerala House for Keralites arriving in Delhi. After this, they will be sent to the State as soon as flights become available. Major boost for green cover as govt allocates Rs 17 crore for establishment of 29 parks in Nellore
TIRUPATI: In a significant push to increase the green cover, the state govt has allocated Rs.17 cr for the establishment of 29 parks in Nellore. TDP legislator for the Nellore rural assembly constituency Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy laid the foundation stone for 14 parks on Wednesday. She asserted that the foundation stone for the establishment of 15 more parks will be laid on Thursday and Friday. Kotamreddy also made startling revelation about land sharks encroaching upon reserve lands meant for the establishment of parks across the Nellore rural assembly constituency. 'Besides cases of encroachment of govt lands, it has also come to the notice that several realtors, who ought to have handed over reserve lands to the Nellore municipal corporation, continue to hold the reserve lands in their possession illegally. Overall it has been estimates that approximately Rs.150 cr worth lands are in the illegal occupation. We have taken up the issue to the notice of the state govt and a thorough enquiry will be carried out to expose everyone involved in the dubious land deals besides reclaiming the govt lands', TDP legislator asserted. Thanking the state govt for allocating funds to the tune of Rs.17 cr for establishment of parks, Kotamreddy asserted that works related to all the 29 parks proposed will be completed within 90 days.
