Couple Goes Viral After Caricaturist Helps Man Pull off Surprise Proposal at Florida State Fair (Exclusive)
A man popped the question via a caricature.
Dave, 28, took his girlfriend, Lexi, 27, on a date to the Florida State Fair on Sunday, Feb. 16. Lexi thought they were just there to enjoy the various food, rides and games, but in reality Dave had been planning an artistic proposal.
The couple — who met in 2014 when they were both working at Surf Style in Clearwater, Florida — sat down next to each other and smiled for artist Damion Dunn, who would create a caricature portrait of them. Based on a video recently posted by Dunn on TikTok, Instagram and YouTube, this wasn't the first time Dave and Lexi had posed for him. The pair visited him in 2022 and 2023, but their 2025 visit would take their relationship to the next level.
In a video with more than 450,000 views shared by Lexi via TikTok on Feb. 18, Dunn hands the couple their drawing. In the piece, Dave is down on one knee proposing to Lexi with a giant diamond ring.
"When the artist showed the drawing, I thought it was so cute but I was also so confused as well like, 'We're not engaged yet,' " Lexi tells PEOPLE. "I saw my best friend and her husband recording too and I was thinking to myself, 'Is what I think that's going to happen, happening right now?' ''
Shortly after Lexi saw the artwork, Dave recreated the scene by dropping down on one knee and pulling out a red rose ring box from his pocket. When he asked her to marry him, Lexi instantly began crying and nodding her head.
"When he got down on one knee it finally clicked to me that, 'OMG this is happening!' " Lexi says.

After Dave slipped the diamond ring on Lexi's finger, the duo hugged and kissed each other.
Dave had been planning the surprise for about a month.
"He messaged me about a month before the fair started, asking if I would be down to help him propose to his girlfriend," Dunn explained on Instagram. "Not only was I honored. I also felt excited and a little nervous to be a part of his proposal. I wanted [to] give them something nice as well as something worth his trust in me."
Dunn included nods to the couple's relationship and previous caricatures into their new artwork, such as the date of their first date — Sept. 15, 2017 — next to the date of their engagement written in heart frames hanging from the top of the piece.
"I had a feeling it was coming soon because the day before my best friend, Aryn, insisted we got our nails done and helped guide me which color to pick, but I did not think it was going to happen at the fair the way it happened," Lexi says.

The bride-to-be posted a second video on TikTok of the proposal, this time with the audio and not just music. After Dave and Lexi's post-proposal embrace, Dunn joked, "Are you guys gonna pay cash or card?"
"He was for sure being funny! We have been getting a drawing from him since 2022 and that's his sense of humor that makes us keep coming back to him," Lexi says. "I thought it added to the proposal as well because that fits our relationship so perfect."
"I just hope you guys continue to come back to me so we can continue the tradition," Dunn said on Instagram. "I'm trying to draw those future babies 🤣."

Khaby Lame: World's Biggest TikTok Star Leaves U.S. After Being Detained By ICE
Khaby Lame, the world's most followed TikTok star, has left the U.S. voluntarily after he was briefly detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement for overstaying the terms of his visa, according to reports. The Associated Press reports that Lame, whose real name is Seringe Khabane Lame, was detained on June 6 at the Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas but was permitted to leave the country without a deportation order. Lame reportedly arrived in the U.S. on April 30, a few days before he attended the Met Gala in New York City. 'Lame entered the United States April 30 and overstayed the terms of his visa.' Officials said that Lame 'has since departed the U.S.' He had been granted a voluntary departure, which saw him avoid a deportation order. Lame, who has more than 162M followers on TikTok, is a Senegalese-Italian TikToker and Unicef goodwill ambassador and is best known for his deadpan reactions to other videos. He first made a name for himself at the end of the pandemic, where his silent TikTok posts saw him make fun of life-hack videos, kicking off with a short film of him peeling a banana with his hands. On Monday morning (June 9), the influencer shared a photo of himself in São Paulo, Brazil. Lame's run-in with ICE comes after President Trump and his administration called for the National Guard to be deployed against anti-ICE protests on the streets of L.A. this week. Nearly 5,000 troops have since descended on the city. California Governor Gavin Newsom made a speech on Wednesday condemning the move where he criticized the 'brazen abuse of power by a sitting president' which he said, 'inflamed a combustible situation, putting our people, our officers and even our National Guard at risk.' ‘This was peak technology': Gen Z is bringing back the BlackBerry
It's 2009. Everyone is rocking ankle socks. 'TikTok,' is just a Ke$ha song. You pull out your BlackBerry Bold 9700 and update your BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) status. All is well. Before the iPhone, the BlackBerry was the 'it' phone. At its peak in the early 2000s, BlackBerry commanded over 50% of the U.S. and 20% of the global smartphone market. But times changed. Physical keyboards gave way to touchscreens, and eventually, BlackBerry discontinued support for its classic phones in 2022. But this isn't where the story ends. The 2000s have since made a comeback. As The New York Times recently reported, 'Everything Millennial Is Cool Again.' Adding to that list, I'm happy to report, is the humble BlackBerry. 'Getting a blackberry bold just because,' one TikTok user posted, holding up a BlackBerry Bold they purchased on eBay for $40. 'This is a sentence I never thought I would say, especially not in 2025,' another wrote, unboxing a second-hand BlackBerry Bold 9900. 'I got a Blackberry.' @ What's your pin? 🥲 #blackberryphone ♬ original sound – She goes on to explain: 'My first phone was an iPhone in 6th grade so I never got the chance to get a Blackberry like I always wanted. This has always been a dream of mine.' The hashtag #blackberry on TikTok now has over 125K posts, with users sharing their retro finds and long-forgotten phones pulled from drawers—including models like the BlackBerry Classic Q20 and a lilac BlackBerry Curve. @ 🔮🫧 lillac blackberry curve from 2009. Just in time for Digital Detox Summer, Gen Z is putting down their iPhones and bringing back flip phones and trackpads. 'POV: you bought a blackberry in 2025 bc your iPhone is ruining your life,' one post with 6.4 million views reads. 'This was PEAK technology,' a commenter wrote. 'BlackBerry has the opportunity to make an amazing comeback,' another added. @shozi_055 My phone addiction is getting way too out of hand, I'm trying to take my life back #fypviralシ ♬ original sound – NOLSTALGIC SOUNDS A recent Reddit post hinted that might just be in the cards. Reddit user u/coldheartedsigma shared a since-deleted post to the r/BlackBerry subreddit but kept most of the details vague, citing an NDA. While some were skeptical, others couldn't contain their excitement. 'Please be real,' one wrote. 'Color me interested if this ever actually materializes,' another added. Whether or not the rumors pan out, Gen Z is bringing back the BlackBerry either way—even if it's just to take a break from scrolling TikTok to play BrickBreaker.
