Karnataka: CM Siddaramaiah announces Rs 10 lakh each to families of three men died in terror strike, blames intelligence failure
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh each to the families of victims of the terrorist attack in Pahalgam in Kashmir. Three tourists from Karnataka were among the 26 persons died in the terror strike. All three men had gone to the valley along with their wives and children. Manjunath Rao was a real estate businessman in Shivamogga, while Madhusudan was a software engineer living in Ramamurthynagar in Bengaluru. Bharath Bhushan had recently quit his software job to run a family business in Mathikere in Bengaluru.
State labour minister Santosh Lad along with a team of officials was in Kashmir on Wednesday coordinating the efforts to transport the bodies to Karnataka and hand them to their families. The bodies were being brought back by a special flight, the minister said.
Rao's body will arrive in Shivamogga on Thursday.
Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya, who is in Kashmir, said Madhusudan's mortal remains would be taken to his native village in Andhra Pradesh. BJP Yuva Morcha would receive mortal remains of victims across airports in the country, Surya, who is its national president, said.
The state government would do its best to provide succour to the families of victims including hospital treatment to injured persons, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah told media persons in Bengaluru.

The CM pinned the blame for the Pahalgam terror strike on the failure of intelligence by the central agencies. Lack of intelligence inputs about the potential strike led to the killing of tourists, he told the media in Bengaluru.
The CM, in a chat with the media, said the Union Government must do its job of providing security effectively to people while eliminating terrorists.

, also joined in attacking the Centre. 'When the so-called Chanakya Home Minister is busy toppling governments, breaking parties and rigging elections, this is what happens. Where is the intelligence? Where is the surveillance?' Kharge Jr said in a statement.
'Whether #pulwama or #pahalgam in both cases, security lapses were flagged beforehand. Both ignored. And shockingly the BJP government has cut over 1.8 lakh army personnel since Covid to save money,' the IT/BT Minister added.

New Delhi: A demolition drive was held at the Bhoomiheen camp in Kalkaji amid a heavy deployment of cops on Wednesday morning. Calling the demolition a "deliberate assault on the marginalised", AAP alleged that BJP govt defied its own chief minister Rekha Gupta's promise of "not a single jhuggi will be touched". Local MLA Atishi alleged that BJP was betraying the poor. "Just three days ago, CM Rekha Gupta claimed that not a single jhuggi would be demolished and no poor person's home would be touched. Yet, under the cover of heavy police presence, the entire Bhoomiheen camp was razed to the ground, displacing thousands of people and leaving them homeless on the streets," she said. DDA further claimed that most of the houses demolished on Wednesday were lying vacant. "344 jhuggi structures existed which were mostly vacant. Will implement Centre's schemes in Delhi: Shivraj Singh Chouhan to farmers
Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan Wednesday met farmers from different parts of Delhi in Tigipur village and assured them that all of the Centre's agricultural welfare schemes will be implemented in the Capital soon. Addressing a gathering of farmers from the city's rural belts, Chouhan said, 'Delhi's farmers were left out of the central government's schemes earlier due to the previous government. The state government has to send us a proposal… I have spoken to the Chief Minister, and she will soon send a proposal to ensure these are rolled out.' Chouhan is on the last leg of his 15-day programme, Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan, under which he has travelled to 14 states already and is interacting with farmers directly. 'There is great demand for fruits and vegetables in Delhi. If agriculture is strengthened here, it will not just benefit the city but also ensure India's economy grows — because even today, half our population is dependent on farming,' he said. Farmers present at the event raised several concerns, including high electricity costs, lack of subsidies, and no retail outlets for fertilisers. 'We don't get any subsidy. And if there is, the process is too complicated to understand,' said a farmer. Another noted that tractors with Delhi registration numbers are charged commercial tax, which increases their input cost, so farmers have to purchase tractors from neighbouring Haryana. A mushroom farmer from Tigipur, cultivating on just two acres, said he spends Rs 40 lakh a year and makes Rs 10-15 lakh in profit by selling directly to Azadpur mandi and contracting with factories. A strawberry grower, with 10 acres under cultivation, said he earns Rs 12-13 lakh per acre. 'We plant strawberries in October and inter-crop it with sweet corn and capsicum later. We sell to Reliance, BigBasket and local mandis,' he said. 'There are some farmers who are doing very well and earning a lot. We also need to learn their best practices' Chouhan said at the chaupal. The cost of inputs remains a problem for farmers of the national capital. 'Agriculture doesn't exist in Delhi for the government. So, our electricity is charged at commercial rates, which is extremely high,' said another farmer. 'There is also no IFFCO shop in Delhi from where we can buy fertilisers,' another said. Chouhan said the government is planning to adopt a 'One Nation, One Farm, One Team' approach. 'Policies must not be made sitting in offices. Drug cartel kingpin deported from Malaysia in custody of Navi Mumbai police, one aide held from Nerul
NAVI MUMBAI: The Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) unit of the Navi Mumbai crime branch took custody of the drug cartel kingpin, Navi Chichkar, who was arrested in May by the Mumbai Narcotics Control Bureau in the Rs 1,000 crore drug seizure case. ANC team also took custody of Chickar's aide identified as Prabhat Pandey (30). Chichkar was deported from Malaysia after a red-corner notice was issued against him. The custody of Chichkar' and Pandey was taken by the Navi Mumbai ANC in connection with the seizure of 17.2 grams of hydro ganja worth Rs 2.80 lakh on April 14. This followed a raid conducted on a tip-off about a drug deal being carried out in a terrace flat in Sector-15, Nerul. The flat owner, Ashish Gaware (22), and Ahmed Aulagi (23) were arrested, but their associate, Akash Maurya, escaped and is still untraceable. Sandeep Nigade, senior inspector of the ANC, said, "The alleged drug kingpin, Navin Chichkar and his aide Pandey were produced before the Belapur JMFC court and remanded in police custody untill June 16. Till date, 18 accused have been arrested in the drugs cartel operated by kingpin Navin Chichkar and 14 more accused are wanted." After a fortnight of the drug seizure, the Navi Mumbai crime branch team arrested a former national hockey player, a customs superintendent, a clearing agent, two police constables, and two angadias in connection with the April 14 hydro ganja bust by the Navi Mumbai Crime Branch's Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC). The alleged kingpin of this drug cartel was Naveen Chichkar, the elder son of builder Gurunath Chichkar, who shot himself in the head at his Belapur office on April 25. Chichkar's police custody was obtained for further interrogation, informed a crime branch officer. Builder Gurunath Chichkar left behind a note in which he alleged being 'harassed' by cops who repeatedly summoned him for inquiry into the drug cases filed against his sons, Naveen and Dhiraj. After the April 14 drug bust in Nerul, during interrogation, the arrested duo, Gaware and Aulagi, revealed the names of former hockey player Sujit Bangera and Sahil Lambe (27), both Nerul residents, who allegedly smuggled the hydro ganja from Thailand to Mumbai via flights. At Mumbai airport, the contraband was cleared by customs clearing agent Kamal Chandwani (56) and customs superintendent Prashant Gaur (40), both Kharghar residents, who were also arrested. During the investigation, the police found that Kharghar police constable Sandeep Bhalerao (40) was communicating with Chandwani for the past six months, and ANC unit constable Sanjay Phulkar (36) was in touch with Bhalerao since the cartel bust. Hence, the two cops were also arrested. Further investigation showed that the cash obtained by Bangera and Chandwani from the sale of hydro ganja was routed to Thailand through two Vashi-based angadias, Ankit Patel and Rinkunkumar Patel, who converted it into cryptocurrency, and hence they too were arrested.
