Saudi trade surplus hits SR30 billion in February 2025

RIYADH — Saudi Arabia's trade balance recorded a surplus of SR 30.6 billion during February 2025, achieving a monthly growth of 44.6% with an increase of more than SR9 billion, compared to January, when the trade surplus amounted to SR21.1 billion.
This was the highest in nine months, specifically since May 2024, in which a surplus of SR30.1 billion was recorded.
According to preliminary data issued in Saudi Arabia's International Trade Bulletin, the total volume of international trade in February 2025 amounted to approximately SR156.9 billion, achieving an annual growth of 4% compared to an increase of more than SR1 billion, compared to February 2024, when it amounted to SR29.4 billion.
Saudi Arabia's commodity exports amounted to about SR 93.7 billion, compared to SR63.2 billion, the value of commodity imports.
Non-oil national exports amounted to about SR16.1 billion, representing 17.1% of the total exports, while oil exports recorded about SR67.6 billion, representing 72.1% of the total, while the value of re-exports amounted to about SR10 billion, representing 10.7% of the total exports.Asian countries group topped the list of importing groups for Saudi Arabia's exports, accounting for 73.7% of the total commodity exports, with a value exceeding SR69 billion, followed by the European countries group with a percentage of 12.5% and a value exceeding SR11 billion, then the African countries group with a percentage of 8.4% and a value exceeding SR7 billion.China ranked first among the countries importing Saudi Arabia's exports, with a percentage of 16.2% and a value of SR15.2 billion, followed by South Korea with a 10.1% and a value of SR9.5 billion, then the United Arab Emirates with a percentage of 9.8% and a value of SR9.2 billion.As for non-oil exports (including re-exports), they passed through (31) land, sea and air customs ports, and their initial value amounted to SR26.1billion, as King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh topped the customs ports with a value of SR3.2 billion, representing (12.4%) of the total, followed by Jeddah Islamic Port with a value of SR3.1 billion, representing 12% of the total.

The two countries established diplomatic relations on June 7, 1955, laying the foundation for a long-term partnership that has evolved over the decades into a multifaceted alliance enhancing cultural exchange and diplomatic cooperation. This partnership has also had a significant economic impact on both nations. In February 2025, Saudi Arabia and Japan signed a memorandum to establish a Strategic Partnership Council. In this context, Saudi Ambassador to Japan and Commissioner General of the Saudi Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka Dr. Ghazi Faisal Binzagr said that Saudi-Japanese relations have grown and strengthened over the past 70 years. 'The relations go beyond a mere economic partnership to reflect the depth and diversity of our ties. Today, we build on the strength of the past and harness the momentum of the present to jointly shape a new vision for the future,' the ambassador said. 'With Expo 2025 taking place in Osaka and Saudi Arabia hosting Expo 2030 in Riyadh, our two countries stand at the forefront of global exchange, showcasing the latest innovations and sustainable technologies, and contributing to shaping an inclusive future for all.' The Saudi Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka hosts hundreds of business events aimed at strengthening trade and investment relations between the Kingdom and Japan. These include presentations led by the Ministries of Investment and Commerce, as well as events highlighting the trade and investment opportunities offered by Saudi Vision 2030. Trade volume between the two countries has grown significantly over the past decade, rising from $33.4 billion to over $41 billion currently. The Saudi Pavilion aims to increase the number of Japanese visitors to the Kingdom, targeting 30,000 annual visitors before Expo 2030 Riyadh. This is part of the comprehensive Saudi-Japan Vision 2030 strategy, which includes more than 80 projects across nine sectors: culture, food and agricultural security, media and entertainment, healthcare, advanced infrastructure, finance and investment, competitive industries, energy, small and medium enterprises, sports, and education. Cultural exchange between the two countries has flourished, highlighted by Saudi Arabia's role in bringing Japanese culture to the Middle East through local manga studios, whose works will be showcased at the Saudi Pavilion in August. The Saudi Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka offers more than 700 diverse and engaging events, including daily shows and live performing arts. Since the Expo opened in April 2025, it has attracted over 500,000 visitors. On September 23, it is expected to host a variety of events and presentations in celebration of Saudi National Day.

Saudi Arabia to host second WTO regional trade policy course in 2025
Saudi Gazette report RIYADH — The General Authority for Foreign Trade (GAFT) held a virtual meeting with the World Trade Organization (WTO) to discuss preparations for the second edition of the Regional Trade Policy Course (RTPC), scheduled to take place in the Kingdom in 2025. Deputy Governor for Shared Services Nasser Al-Dughaither, represented GAFT in the meeting. The meeting, included GAFT's Director General of Human Resources Hamoud Al-Malki and Director of Talent and Development Badr Al-Ajlan, focused on enhancing cooperation to organize the RTPC, improving the course's quality and outcomes, and developing specialized workshops for stakeholders involved in trade negotiations. These efforts aim to deepen participants' understanding of WTO agreements, rules, and procedures. Al-Dughaither emphasized that Saudi Arabia's three-year hosting of the RTPC reflects its global economic leadership, particularly in the Middle East, and aligns with national goals to empower regional trade policymakers and elevate their capacity to meet international trade standards. He expressed optimism about the upcoming edition, building on the success of the previous course, which featured robust scientific content and active participant engagement. The first edition of the RTPC was hosted in Saudi Arabia from October 13 to December 5, 2024, in partnership with King Saud University and the WTO. It saw participation from around 25 government officials representing nine countries, along with 12 Saudi government entities, covering over 24 training topics.
