Last-minute selling ends FBM KLCI's winning streak
KUALA LUMPUR: Last-minute selling pressure pushed the FBM KLCI lower on Wednesday, snapping a two-day winning streak amid mixed regional markets. At closing, the benchmark index closed down 2.03 points, or 0.13% to 1,588.21 with 19 of the component stocks finishing lower. The index has risen to an intraday high of 1,591.04 Market breadth turned negative, with losers outnumbering gainers by 647 to 376. About 2.55 billion shares, valued at RM2.5bil, changed hands. Rakuten Trade Sdn Bhd vice-president of equity research, Thong Pak Leng, said the FBM KLCI closed marginally lower due to profit-taking after a recent strong rally. Meanwhile, key regional indices finished mixed, following a heavy sell-off in tech stocks on the Nasdaq overnight. Thong described today's profit-taking as a healthy correction, allowing the benchmark index to digest the recent strong uptrend. 'The FBM KLCI is holding well above the key 1,585 support mark, which sets the stage for further gains. 'Barring any external shocks, we expect the benchmark index to trade within the 1,570 to 1,600 range through the week,' he said. Among the decliners, PETRONAS Dagangan slid 44 sen to RM22.50, Kuala Lumpur Kepong lost 32 sen to RM19.20, PPB Group fell 27 sen to RM8.62 and Heineken declined 26 sen to RM22.10. iQIYI Eyes Hong Kong Secondary Listing To Raise Up To US$300 Million
Chinese video streaming platform iQIYI is preparing for a secondary listing in Hong Kong that could raise between US$200 million and US$300 million, according to people familiar with the matter. The Nasdaq-listed company, controlled by Baidu, has hired Bank of America, China International Capital Corp (CICC) and JPMorgan as advisers. iQIYI is expected to file its application in the third quarter, with the listing potentially taking place before the 2026 Lunar New Year in February. The move comes as an increasing number of Chinese firms seek listings in Hong Kong, partly to hedge against the risk of being delisted from US exchanges amid ongoing geopolitical tensions. This trend has pushed Hong Kong ahead of New York in terms of listing volumes this year. With a market value of around US$2.2 billion, iQIYI is China's second-largest video streaming service after Tencent Video. Shares in the company surged more than 20% on Monday after regulators announced measures to support quality content creation, though the stock remains about 30% lower than a year ago. Last year, it plunged nearly 60% on the back of shrinking revenue, subscriber challenges, weaker advertising demand and foreign exchange losses. Analysts expect iQIYI to report second-quarter revenue of 6.6 billion yuan, an 11.2% year-on-year decline, according to LSEG data. iQIYI, as well as the banks involved, declined to comment on the planned listing.
