Civic body steps up fogging to prevent mosquito infestation
Hyderabad: GHMC Commissioner R V Karnan has urged members of the Residents' Welfare Associations to make sure that there should be no stagnation of water in their neighbourhoods and to take measures to avert mosquito-breeding. He called upon local public representatives and all citizens to join in the initiative aimed at curbing mosquito infestations throughout the city. The civic body urged the public to take proactive measures to curb spread of mosquitoes. Residents should maintain cleanliness around their homes. It is crucial to eliminate any stagnant water and to implement suitable precautions to stop mosquitoes from entering homes.
Fogging was conducted in all six GHMC circles to avert mosquito menace ahead of the monsoon. To effectively tackle any potential infestations during the upcoming season, extensive fogging was initiated in select pilot divisions. The operations were conducted in Dattatreya Nagar in the Goshamahal circle and behind Arora College in the Musaram Bagh division.
In the Amberpet division, fogging was taken up in Patel Nagar, New Patel Nagar, Chennareddy Nagar, Kakatiya Line, Babu Nagar Polytechnic Road, Akash Nagar, Kumar Nagar and Owaisi Nagar.
The entomology officers and their staff actively participated and diligently executed the activities.
Fogging was conducted using VMF machines, while in other areas, large-scale activities were executed with PMF machines. In the Vidhanga Saroornagar circle, Gaddi Annaram division, Kapra circle, Venkateswara Nagar, Mangapuram Colony, and Krishna Nagar Colony, corporator Jerry Potula Prabhudas from Meerpet actively took part. Additionally, in the Musheerabad circle, Domalaguda, Uppal circle, Swaroop Reddy Nagar area, Jeedimetla division, Vennela Gadda Area, and Nagole division, corporator Aruna was involved in fogging.
Mettu Kumar Yadav from Patancheru oversaw and participated in fogging in Raghavendra Colony. The operation was successfully executed thanks to collaboration of corporators from various divisions.
In the LB Nagar zone fogging was taken up in Kapra, Uppal, Hayathnagar, Hastinapuram and Saroornagar, besides Charminar areas, including Malakpet, Santoshnagar, Chandrayanagutta, Falaknuma, Rajendranagar, Mehdipatnam, Karwan, Goshamahal, Khairatabad, Jubilee Hills (Khairatabad circle).

Focus on waste audit, segregation and management in 100-day municipal action plan
Waste audit of assessing the quantity and types of waste generated in a specific area, waste segregation and sustainable waste management practices will be the main focus of the 100-day action plan initiated by the government for improving conditions in Urban Local Bodies (ULBs, apart from the GHMC) across the State on the Telangana State Formation Day from June 2. The plan cleared by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, who also holds the municipal administration and urban development department, includes identifying gaps in segregation, reducing waste reduction, recycling and better disposal practices. The audit will be to assess waste composition, identify gaps in segregation at every major source like a school, market, commercial area etc., informed top officials. It is to help in recommending strategies for waste reduction, recycling, and better disposal practices. Householders will also be encouraged to separate wet and dry waste at the source itself with separate bins. Local bodies have been directed to promote composting of organic waste to reduce landfill problem burden and also generate compost at the household/community level. Composting units will be set up in schools to process organic waste like food and garden waste, they said. Sanitary workers at all levels will be profiled to ensure they get their dues, including ESI/PF benefits, even as health camps will be held. The action plan also involves fixing iron mesh over open drains to prevent the entry of solid waste – a major issue of municipalities - reduce blockages and enhance cleanliness. Desiltation of storm water drains, removal of debris to prevent water logging is also on cards. Apart from reworking the street vending units and testing for food quality, street food festivals are to be conducted. The ULBs have been told to promote urban greenery and beautification efforts like development of at least one traffic junction and a park. The 'Bhuvan' survey for identification of unassessed and under assessed properties to bring them in tax net is being revived as part of the drive in association with the National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC). Identifying commercial and mixed properties lacking trade licences and collecting fee, door-to-door survey of all water supply house service connections for ward wise enumeration, and so on are among the activities earmarked during this period, they added.

CM urges all depts to be on high alert
Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy put the city police, Traffic, HYDRA and GHMC wings on alert to prevent traffic and other problems during heavy rains in Hyderabad. The Chief Minister also ordered the officials of the four departments to work in coordination and press the emergency wing teams into the service, ensuring they are available round the clock to tackle the situation in the rain hit areas. He inquired about the progress of the water harvesting well works taken up at the identified 141 water logging points in Hyderabad and suggested to take adequate measures to pump out rainwater which enters the harvesting wells by using automatic pumps. The officials were instructed to take immediate preventive measures as per the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast in the state. A new system should also be developed at the Command Control Centre to monitor the intensity of rains and floods regularly. Expediting the completion of pending drainage and desilting works, identification of the problematic areas and preventive measures was also discussed in the meeting. The CM instructed the officials to prepare plans in advance and pay special attention to prevent floods and submergence in the Core Urban Region located inside the Outer Ring Road. In view of the fast development of the Core Urban Region, CM Revanth Reddy suggested a special policy for the expansion and development of tanks, canals, and roads within the region.

Expedite drainage works ahead of monsoon: GHMC chief
Hyderabad: As a part of monsoon preparedness, GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan on Friday instructed officials to expedite drain works promptly ensuring the public experiences no inconvenience. He inspected drain works in the Santoshnagar Circle, Charminar zone. He was accompanied by Yakutpura MLA Jaffar Hussain Meraj, MLC Mirza Riaz-ul-Hasan Effendi and officers from different departments. The main purpose of the inspection was to tackle overflow issues caused by interconnected nalas and sewage lines. The officials inspected Maula Ka Chilla, Ganganagar nala and others. Proposals are being prepared to submit to the corporation. The aim is to resolve overflow issue, particularly at Rangeeli Khidki, near Rahmania Madarsa. Jaffar Hussain detailed the challenges the residents of colonies experience due to the drains. EE BL Srinivas informed the commissioner that repair to Ganganagar nala was 70 per cent completed. Karnan instructed the project officer to expedite the work as soon as possible. As the water pipeline runs parallel to both sides of the Ganganagar nala, the GHMC maintenance engineering wing, along with the Water Board officials, has been directed to collaborate on its cleaning. The necessity for building a drainage canal from Jahangir Nagar Colony to Maula Ka Chilla nala was communicated to the commissioner; engineering officials were tasked with drafting proposals. During the visit they discussed the upcoming Moharram routes and maintenance of Ashurkhaanas. Karnan souoght proposals, assuring immediate sanction of work to ensure all preparations are in place.
