Let's see just how much WWE exposes the business in this new trailer for Unreal

Yahoo5 days ago
The highly-anticipated WWE: Unreal docuseries premieres on Netflix on July 29. The show pulls the curtain back on WWE's creative process and reveals behind-the-scenes footage of how the sausage is made, so-to-speak, in WWE. Or as Triple H puts it, 'For the first time ever, we're gonna show you how the story unfolded.'
Netflix has posted a new trailer for season one of the show, which focuses on the road to WrestleMania 41. The trailer offers an inside look at what's going through the minds of WWE stars like Cody Rhodes, Rhea Ripley, CM Punk, Chelsea Green, Jey Uso, and more.
Let's see just how far back WWE is pulling that curtain:
I think one of the more interesting aspects of the trailer is when Triple H talks about 'all these alternative universes where you play them out in your mind as to what is the best.' Wrestling fans who are curious about the inner workings of the business eat up those kinds of what-if scenarios.
For example, did WWE have any alternate ideas in mind for the men's 2025 Royal Rumble winner besides Jey Uso? And of course, is there a chance that Cody Rhodes actually could have sold his soul to The Rock at Elimination Chamber and turned heel instead of John Cena? What exactly went into that decision-making process?
The backstage talks with WWE stars seem less interesting to me, as I think they are all naturally a little cautious about saying too much when the camera is on them in that situation. In promoting the show this week, CM Punk even said he's not the best guy to sell it, because he's always been taught to protect the business.
Despite what some people think, it doesn't seem at all to me like WWE is hurting the pro wrestling business by doing this show. In fact, Triple H is sure it will get fans even more invested in the WWE product as he says, 'When you see the behind-the-scenes, I don't know how you can't fall in love with the business.'
After watching this trailer, how hyped up are you to watch WWE: Unreal? Let me know in the comments below, Cagesiders.

Jussie Smollett to speak in Netflix documentary about hate crime hoax

Jussie Smollett's alleged hate crime hoax is the subject of an upcoming Netflix documentary. The streamer announced Tuesday that 'The Truth About Jussie Smollett?' will be released on the platform Aug. 22, according to Deadline. Producers of the true-crime hits 'Tinder Swindler,' 'Trainwreck' and 'Don't F**k with Cats' are behind the 90-minute project, comprised of interviews with police officials, lawyers, journalists and Smollett himself. The film centers on the yearslong legal saga launched by Chicago investigators, who determined the 'Empire' actor staged a 2019 hate crime attack as a 'publicity stunt' to advance his career. The documentary has been described as the 'shocking true story of an allegedly fake story that some now say might just be a true story.' In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, director Gagan Rehill said the film 'is a thrilling ride, and we were lucky enough to have access to the key players.' Smollett claimed in January 2019 that unknown assailants attacked him on a Chicago street, punching him in the face, pouring a chemical substance on him and putting a noose around his neck while yelling racial and homophobic slurs. Two brothers associated with Smollett, Abimbola and Olabinjo Osundairo, later confessed to having been involved in a scheme orchestrated by the openly gay actor to make it look as though he'd been accosted by Trump-supporting extremists. The 43-year-old NAACP Image Award winner was arrested and later found guilty on a handful of charges related to the incident. He was sentenced to 150 days in jail in 2022, but was released after six days pending an appeal. His conviction was overturned last November as part of a plea deal with prosecutors in exchange for community service and the forfeiture of his $10,000 bond. Smollett, who has always denied any wrongdoing, also agreed to donate at least $50,000 to Chicago's Building Better Futures Center for the Arts organization to resolve the city's lawsuit against him. _____

Trick Williams Wants To Face The Greatest TNA Champion Of All Time

Trick Williams wants to prove himself as the TNA World Champion. WWE NXT Superstar and current TNA World Champion Trick Williams recently spoke with Mike Johnson of PWInsider. When asked who he'd like to defend the title against, Williams called out arguably the greatest TNA World Champion of all time, RAW Superstar AJ Styles. 'I want AJ Styles,' Williams said. 'I told Atlanta that I'm the greatest TNA Champion of all time, and the audacity of that crowd to turn and say 'AJ Styles'? Completely disrespectful. There's only one way to get to the bottom of this. Gimme AJ Styles. Let me prove myself. Let me show everybody how legit Trick Williams is. That's the one I want. Trick Williams versus AJ Styles.' Since the partnership between WWE and TNA began, fans have been clamoring to see Styles step into a TNA ring one more time. Perhaps this is the path to making that happen.
