‘South Park' Mocks a Puppy-Shooting Kristi Noem and JD Vance Offers to Rub Baby Oil on Satan In Wild New Episode
In the second episode of 'South Park' Season 27, United States Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem leads ICE in a raid on the local production of 'Dora the Explorer Live!' After losing his job as counselor of South Park Elementary, Mr. Mackey is out of options to make his monthly 'nut,' which adds up to $8,000 a month. His banker suggests he join ICE, which offers a '$100,000 salary' and a '$50,000 signing bonus.' More from Variety 'South Park' Is So Effective at Mocking Trump Because It Mastered His Own Brand of Insult Comedy U.S. Homeland Security Is Now Using 'South Park' to Promote ICE's Website Amid the Show's Takedown of Donald Trump Spike Lee, Adam McKay and 2,300 More WGA Members Sign Letter Blasting Trump's 'Authoritarian Assault' on Free Speech After some brief deliberation, Mackey heads to ICE HQ. They let him join without a second thought and shuffle him into a room for an orientation video featuring none Noem, who is now their leader. 'Welcome to the team, recruits. I'm Kristi Noem, head of Homeland Security,' she says. 'A few years ago, I had to put my puppy down by shooting it in the face, because sometimes doing what's important means doing what's hard.' The video then hard cuts to Noem jumping out of an ICE vehicle and gunning down an innocent puppy in the street. 'Now, we'll ask the same determination of you. Because detaining and questioning people is never easy,' she adds, before the video cuts to Noem shooting another puppy. After his orientation, Mackey goes to raid a location 'that might be filled with Illegals': a local production of 'Dora the Explorer Live!' As Mackey and Noem bust into the theater, the audience scrambles in panic. Noem tries to calm the crowd. 'We're just here for questioning. Cooperate, and nothing bad– holy shit!' Noem screams, before spotting a service dog in the crowd and shooting it. Mackey does such a good job with ICE that Noem sends him to Mar-a-Lago, where Donald Trump is waiting with a toddler-sized JD Vance. After Trump names Mackey the new head of Homeland Security, he brings the former school counselor to his room for a threesome with himself and Satan. The babyfied Vance offers to lend a hand, 'Would you like me to apply the baby oil to Satan's asshole, boss?' Even before it was released, ICE took notice of Wednesday's show. The X account for the United States Department of Homeland Security used a still from the episode's teaser to promote ICE's website, which includes application portals for various agency roles like criminal investigator and deportation officer. The official 'South Park' X account responded to the post by writing, 'Wait, so we ARE relevant? #eatabagofdicks.' The retort from 'South Park' references the White House's response to the Season 27 premiere, in which they claimed the show 'hasn't been relevant for 20 years.' 'The Left's hypocrisy truly has no end – for years they have come after 'South Park' for what they labeled as 'offense' content, but suddenly they are praising the show,' White House spokesperson Taylor Rogers said in a statement to Variety following the Season 27 premiere. 'Just like the creators of 'South Park,' the Left has no authentic or original content, which is why their popularity continues to hit record lows.' Fantastic Four 2 Update Reveals Likely Director for MCU Sequel
A new report from Jeff Sneider of The InSneider suggests that Disney has likely already found the director for The Fantastic Four 2, and has high hopes for the sequel. Who is potentially directing The Fantastic Four 2? According to Sneider, Matt Shakman — the director of the first film and the MCU miniseries WandaVision — is 'likely' to return to direct a sequel. As for the film's box office, Sneider mentions that, although the film hasn't been performed incredibly, Marvel execs believe the sequel will perform better after The Fantastic Four are shown off more in the next two Avengers movies, Avengers: Doomsday and Avenges: Secret Wars. Sneider's report comes after Disney CEO Bob Iger also praised The Fantastic Four: First Steps, saying the movie 'successfully launched' an important franchise into the MCU, even if it didn't make the same amount of money a project like Avengers might. In its second weekend, The Fantastic Four: First Steps took a 66% drop, a surprisingly high mark for a film that is praised by both critics and audiences. Following its latest drop, it's likely First Steps will come in under Superman, the DCU film that launched a week prior. 'Set against the vibrant backdrop of a 1960s-inspired, retro-futuristic world, Marvel Studios' The Fantastic Four: First Steps introduces Marvel's First Family—Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Johnny Storm/Human Torch and Ben Grimm/The Thing as they face their most daunting challenge yet,' the official synopsis for the movie reads. Kevin Feige serves as a producer on the project, while executive producers include Louis D'Esposito, Grant Curtis, and Tim Lewis. Mitch Bell is a co-producer, while the music comes from Michael Giacchino. The Fantastic Four: First Steps will be released in United States theaters on July 25, 2025. It has been confirmed that Pascal, Kirby, Quinn, and Moss-Bachrach will all return for Avengers: Doomsday, which arrives in December 2026. The Fantastic Four: First Steps is available in theaters now. Solve the daily Crossword

‘Last Week Tonight with John Oliver' director Paul Pennolino has to ‘land the plane on the Hudson' each week
'I've been making my bones in late night comedy for a long, long time now,' reflects Last Week Tonight with John Oliver director Paul Pennolino, who started out as a page working for David Letterman. He adds, 'That was before the internet and cell phones and cable news channels. We're now in the squabble culture.' Watch our full interview above with Pennolino joining our Gold Derby "Meet the Experts" directors panel. Pennolino has worked on the HBO variety series since 2016. In what seems like a precarious time for late night franchises, the director explains, 'My job is to execute content and not opine on stuff like that. Although I will say, I think this broadcast is unlike any other. It is really smart and has evolved into a space where we can spend 40 minutes talking about an issue. I think it has a heck of a role. You know, my goddaughter, who's a student in college, actually watched the show in their classroom.' More from Gold Derby TV Directors roundtable: 'Adolescence,' 'Last Week Tonight with John Oliver,' 'The Pitt,' 'Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story' 'Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story' director Ian Bonhôte learned that 'strength lies in you' This year, Pennolino has received his ninth Emmy nomination. It's his eighth for working with Oliver in the variety series directing category. However the director has never won. On pulling together an episode of the show, he says, 'I care about the people I work for. I've known a lot of them for four decades. My job is when the inevitable bird strike is going to happen, I have to land the plane on the Hudson. Inevitably sometimes things will go wrong. Technology is not perfect. I feel like my role is to get it right and be in line with the comedic tone of the jokes within the headline.' While Pennolino is still waiting to win this big award, Last Week has been an Emmy darling. It has won either the award for Best Scripted Variety Series or Best Variety Talk Series for the past nine years. Pennolino admits, 'I don't think I've ever worked with a talent that worked this hard and was committed to the message. You gotta be consistent and you have to have your habits. And I certainly have my rituals. And John isn't just sitting at a desk reading a teleprompter. It's performative. Sometimes, very rarely, I'll have to go to his dressing room before the show to give him a note. I'll walk by and he's in that office reading and pacing and performing that script in his own head. He's almost whispering it.' This article and video are presented by HBO Max.
