Man shot dead by police in Vancouver's Joyce-Collingwood area

Social Sharing A man was shot dead by Vancouver police late Tuesday afternoon in the Joyce-Collingwood neighbourhood. The IIO, B.C.'s civilian-led police watchdog, is looking into the case. Vancouver police said in a short statement just before 7 p.m. PT that they responded to a call of a dispute between two neighbours around 4 p.m. When police officers arrived at the scene, near the intersection of Rupert Street and Vanness Avenue, they said they found a man with a weapon. The VPD statement said the man was shot by police and later died at the scene despite life-saving efforts. Police have not specified the nature of the weapon or the identity of the individual. No one else was injured. The Independent Investigations Office of B.C., which investigates all instances of death or serious harm that may have been the result of police action or inaction, is looking into the case. In its own statement, the IIO said that police were called to a residential building near the intersection where the shooting happened. The VPD said the case was an "unfolding investigation" and it would not provide further information at this point.
