Sense of normalcy in Rajasthan border districts but schools, colleges remain shut
Flight operations, which had earlier been suspended until May 15, also resumed at Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Kishangarh, and Bikaner airports along with 32 others across the country.
The blackout in these districts was enforced from 7:30pm on Sunday to 6am Monday amid the tensions in the India-Pakistan border. A ceasefire was agreed between India and Pakistan on Saturday.
There were no reported untoward incidents in these districts on Sunday night during the blackout time with security personnel patrolling key areas ensuring compliance.
Brief panic after drone activity
Despite the ceasefire agreement, there was panic in Barmer on Sunday night around 8:40pm when sirens blared for around 15 minutes. Barmer district collector Tina Dabi urged residents to remain indoors and strictly follow blackout protocols.
Normalcy gradually returning in Jaisalmer
Markets in Jaisalmer were gradually opening with locals expressing their relief.
'We're relieved to reopen our shops. Things are slowly getting back on track,' said Vimal Kumar, a shopkeeper in Jaisalmer.

In a show of solidarity with the armed forces, the Gayatri Parivar organised a Sainyashakti Samvardhan Deep Yagya to express their support for the armed forces.
However, access to border routes in Jaisalmer has been restricted. On the road from Ramgarh to the Tanot border, entry is prohibited to outsiders after 3pm and only local residents are allowed upon presenting Aadhaar identification. Border Security Force (BSF) personnel have erected barricades to enforce these curbs.
Schools and colleges remain closed
District administrations in Barmer and Jaisalmer had ordered closures of all educational institutions after drone activity and explosion reports surfaced on Saturday night, despite the ceasefire. Authorities have stated that a decision on reopening schools and colleges will be taken after assessing the evolving situation.

Caution in Bikaner
Life in Bikaner remained largely undisturbed. Shops functioned normally, and no unusual activity was reported in either rural or urban pockets. However, schools, colleges, and coaching centers remain shut until further notice. Villages near the border—including Khajuwala, Bajju, and Kolayat—reported calm and normalcy.
District authorities in all four regions remain vigilant and are expected to review the situation in coordination with the central government before lifting remaining precautionary measures, including the night-time blackouts.

If Aadhaar, PAN, ration card not considered proof of citizenship, what documents are accepted as valid? Check list of 11 such IDs that are enough to prove you are Indian
File/Representational Ahead of the upcoming assembly elections in Bihar, a detailed review of the voter list has raised serious questions about people's citizenship. Similar checks are also happening in Delhi-NCR, where police and government agencies are verifying the citizenship of suspicious individuals. During this process, even many well-settled residents are struggling to prove their citizenship. Documents not accepted as proof of citizenship The Election Commission has made it clear that some commonly used documents like: Aadhaar card, ration card and voter ID card do not count as proof of citizenship. This means people cannot use these documents to get their names added to the new voter list in Bihar. These rules also apply in other states. People in remote areas facing the most trouble Because of these new rules, many people living in rural and remote areas of Bihar are finding it very difficult to register themselves in the new voter list. This has created confusion and added stress for those trying to prove they are Indian citizens. The Election Commission has launched a special review drive in Bihar to update the voter list, but the process has now led to confusion and political tension. The issue: proving citizenship. The Election Commission has listed 11 specific documents that are accepted as proof of citizenship during this review. These 11 documents are accepted as proof of citizenship: ID or pension papers issued to regular employees or pensioners of the central/state government or public sector companies. Any official ID or certificate issued by government or public institutions before 1 July 1987. Birth certificate issued by a competent authority. Passport Educational certificates issued by a recognised board or university (like matriculation certificates). Permanent residence certificate issued by a state authority. Forest rights certificate Caste certificates (OBC/SC/ST) issued by an authorised official. National Register of Citizens (NRC) – where applicable. Family register made by local or state authorities. Land or house allotment certificate issued by the government. Political reactions Opposition parties in Bihar have strongly criticized the move, saying it is being used to target and harass people ahead of the elections. They claim the process is unfair and causes unnecessary stress, especially for poor and uneducated citizens. What documents are needed to get an Aadhaar Card? Passport PAN Card Voter ID Card Driving Licence Ration Card / PDS Photo Card Photo ID issued by Government or Public Sector Unit (PSU) Aadhaar is not a proof of citizenship It might seem surprising, but the documents that are accepted to prove someone's citizenship in India like a passport, birth certificate, or matriculation certificate are actually the same documents used to get an Aadhaar card. Yet, Aadhaar itself is not accepted as proof of citizenship. Even though the Aadhaar card holds a person's personal information and biometric details like fingerprints and retina scans, it still isn't legally considered proof that someone is an Indian citizen. The government agency that issues Aadhaar UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) has clearly stated that Aadhaar is only meant to verify identity, not nationality. Once someone has an Aadhaar card, they can use it to digitally verify their identity for things like opening a bank account or getting a driving licence, without having to show their identity documents every time.

Maharashtra: Family Of Kargil War Veteran Harassed By Mob In Pune, Forced To Prove Indian Citizenship
The family of a Kargil War veteran in Pune has alleged that a mob barged into their home late Saturday night, demanding proof of their Indian citizenship and accusing them of being illegal immigrants. The incident took place in the Chandannagar area of Pune around 11:30 PM. The family claims that members of the Bajrang Dal, accompanied by some police personnel in plain clothes, entered their house and accused them of being Bangladeshi and Rohingya immigrants. Irshad Shaikh, brother of Army veteran Hakimuddin Shaikh, said, "We are proud Indians. Our family members, since our forefathers, have served the nation for 130 years in various ranks and services, and yet, we were treated like criminals in our own home." He added, "A mob of 70-80 people entered my house and the houses of relatives who reside next to me. They started asking us to prove our nationality. We tried to show our IDs, but they were not listening to us and created chaos. Some police personnel in civil uniform were with them, too." Hakimuddin's nephew, Shamshad Shaikh, shared a similar account. "Around 11:45 pm, they banged loudly on our door. Once open, 5-7 people entered the house. There were a total of 80 people... They started saying that without wasting time, show your Aadhaar card; otherwise, we will kill you. Upon showing, they claimed our Aadhaar cards were fake. We do not know them, but they told us that they are from Bajrang Dal... The police came in civil dress, so we were not able to identify them initially." However, Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar denied police involvement in the incident. He said, "The family has not made any allegations of the presence of police in the crowd, and there was indeed no police presence in it." #WATCH | Maharashtra | Army veteran's family allegedly assaulted by mob in Pune and asked to show proof of Indian citizenship Commissioner of Police, Amitesh Kumar says, "An offence of unlawful assembly has been registered against people who gathered there and were raising… — ANI (@ANI) July 30, 2025 The police have registered a case of unlawful assembly against the individuals who allegedly entered the home and raised slogans.
