Shedeur Sanders' 'mistake' cost him draft position, NFL analyst says
Shedeur Sanders' draft slide remained the topic of conversation a week after the Cleveland Browns selected the quarterback in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft.
The aftermath has had every current and former player and pundit trying to figure out why a player like Sanders, who had been projected to be one of the first players off the board, had managed to fall all the way down to No. 144.
ESPN NFL Draft analyst Matt Miller shed some light on the former Colorado Buffaloes star's fall. He pointed to how Sanders and his camp had handled the entire draft process.
"I didn't think that they handled the process well," he told Awful Announcing. "And that's not just hindsight. I took a lot of heat for saying on 'NFL Live,' right before the NFL Scouting Combine, that he was making a mistake.
"He should be throwing at the NFL Scouting Combine. He should have worked out at the East-West Shrine Game that he accepted an invite to. The NFL has this new rule that if you accept an invite to an All-Star Game, you have to participate. And he didn't. So, I said on TV that they were not handling the process well. And I thought it would hurt him. People were not happy with me."
Miller still believed Sanders was "overrated as a player."
"I had a lot of messages. I had a lot of responses to the video ESPN put out saying that. So I do think … was he overrated as a player? Yes, based on the talents and the tools he has as a player, he was not a top two or three player in this draft class," he said. "But then you get to the process part of it. And the NFL will humble anyone.
"How the NFL views you and evaluates you, they will humble every player. So I think for the Sanders camp, they had this perception of Shedeur as a lock two or three draft pick. And they approached the process that way. There was never anyone from the outside that could get through to him and say, 'Wait a second, he's not guaranteed to be a two or three draft pick.' And the fact that you are approaching the process that way is hurting him."
Sanders will have the ability to prove everyone wrong with the Browns.
He will compete for a starting job against Kenny Pickett, Joe Flacco and Dillon Gabriel. Deshaun Watson is likely to miss the entire 2025 season after re-rupturing his Achilles in the offseason.

Louis Rees-Zammit will try the NFL for another year or two before returning to rugby
When Welsh rugby player Louis Rees-Zammit announced last year that he would move overseas to try to make it in the NFL, he was taking a big risk by giving up stardom at home for a sport he had never played before. Rees-Zammit said he thinks training in the NFL may prove to make him a better rugby player in the future. 'When I was playing rugby, I went to America twice to train and the things I learned there I knew straight away would help my game. Now, having two years of it, I think if I did have to go back I'll definitely be able to excel again,' he said. But first he'll try to excel in Jaguars camp, and hope they keep him around for the regular season.

2025 Buffalo Bills training camp preview: Quarterbacks
The Buffalo Bills are moving into their next major offseason phase in due time: Training camp. The Bills will kick off their 2025 training camp on July 23 at St. John Fisher University. As with every offseason, Bills Wire will examine each position group ahead of this pivotal time on the football calendar. Today's training camp preview will focus on Buffalo's quarterback situation. Our 2025 quarterback preview can be found below: At the top The Bills start and end with Josh Allen. Period. The 2024 NFL MVP completed a monstrous campaign last season, compiling 41 total touchdowns (28 passing, 12 rushing, and 1 receiving). He established a career-best 1.2-percent interception ratio. Allen tied for the league lead in QBR rating with Lamar Jackson. All told, Allen went 307-of-483 for 3,731 passing yards. Allen added 531 rushing yards on 102 carries. Allen's highlights were crazy to consider. He had a six-touchdown game versus the Los Angeles Rams. He was the first quarterback in NFL history to throw a touchdown, catch a touchdown, and rush for a touchdown in a game. Multiple times, the Bills put the weight of the team on Allen's back, and each time, he met the challenge. Depth chart It's difficult to imagine anyone else behind center of this team. If Allen were to miss substantial time, it would likely be the demise of the Bills' season. Short-term, though, Buffalo believes they have solid options to get by. Mitchell Trubisky slots in as the No. 2 quarterback on the roster. While he does not have the arm of Allen, Trubisky can run offensive coordinator Joe Brady's offense if called upon. He is mobile enough to run a similar scheme without the offense taking a massive detour from their core play-calling. Mike White and Shane Buechele round out the quarterback room. White is a journeyman quarterback who found his way onto Bills highlight film when Matt Milano crushed him as the New York Jets' quarterback. White does, however, have some experience, going 2-5 as a starter for the Jets early in his career. Buechele projects as a camp arm and a practice squad candidate. In 2025... As challenging as it may be, Allen may need to produce even more if the Bills are to take that final step toward the Super Bowl. While Allen's postseason heroics have been nothing short of amazing, they have gone for naught as the Bills still have failed to get past the AFC Championship game.
