2025 Buffalo Bills training camp preview: Quarterbacks
The Buffalo Bills are moving into their next major offseason phase in due time: Training camp.
The Bills will kick off their 2025 training camp on July 23 at St. John Fisher University. As with every offseason, Bills Wire will examine each position group ahead of this pivotal time on the football calendar.
Today's training camp preview will focus on Buffalo's quarterback situation.

At the top
The Bills start and end with Josh Allen. Period.
The 2024 NFL MVP completed a monstrous campaign last season, compiling 41 total touchdowns (28 passing, 12 rushing, and 1 receiving). He established a career-best 1.2-percent interception ratio. Allen tied for the league lead in QBR rating with Lamar Jackson.
All told, Allen went 307-of-483 for 3,731 passing yards. Allen added 531 rushing yards on 102 carries.
Allen's highlights were crazy to consider. He had a six-touchdown game versus the Los Angeles Rams. He was the first quarterback in NFL history to throw a touchdown, catch a touchdown, and rush for a touchdown in a game.
Multiple times, the Bills put the weight of the team on Allen's back, and each time, he met the challenge.
Depth chart
It's difficult to imagine anyone else behind center of this team. If Allen were to miss substantial time, it would likely be the demise of the Bills' season.
Short-term, though, Buffalo believes they have solid options to get by.
Mitchell Trubisky slots in as the No. 2 quarterback on the roster. While he does not have the arm of Allen, Trubisky can run offensive coordinator Joe Brady's offense if called upon. He is mobile enough to run a similar scheme without the offense taking a massive detour from their core play-calling.
Mike White and Shane Buechele round out the quarterback room.
White is a journeyman quarterback who found his way onto Bills highlight film when Matt Milano crushed him as the New York Jets' quarterback. White does, however, have some experience, going 2-5 as a starter for the Jets early in his career.
Buechele projects as a camp arm and a practice squad candidate.
In 2025...
As challenging as it may be, Allen may need to produce even more if the Bills are to take that final step toward the Super Bowl. While Allen's postseason heroics have been nothing short of amazing, they have gone for naught as the Bills still have failed to get past the AFC Championship game.

"...I wish they would've won a Super Bowl for those guys, right? Now, I'm happy that we were able to make that happen and win that football game. But I kind of sometimes have a little bit of empathy for those guys that didn't win a Super Bowl.' The Falcons had one of the greatest runs in franchise history with quarterback Matt Ryan winning Most Valuable Player of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year. Falcons offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan won the Assistant Coach of the Year award as well. The Falcons went 11-5 and won the NFC South that year. Dallas Cowboys to return to Oxnard, California for training camp July 22
America's Team is headed back to Oxnard, California for training camp from July 22 through August 13. This year's camp will mark the 46th year the team has trained in Southern California and the 19th season they have spent camp at the Oxnard location. It's also the first training camp for Brian Schottenheimer as the team's head coach – prior to replacing Mike McCarthy, Schottenheimer was offensive coordinator for two seasons. Fans can attend all practice sessions that are open to the public for free. Entry is available on a first-come, first-served basis, the team said. Workouts take place at 11:30 a.m. PT July 22 and public entry opens two hours before practice. The rest of the practices begin at 11:45 a.m. PT. The practices include three preseason games, the first being against the Los Angeles Rams at SoFi Stadium on August 9. Training camp wraps up in Oxnard on August 13, then picks back up at the Ford Center at The Star in Frisco before the team's first preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens at AT&T Stadium on August 16. Selected practices at The Star will be open to the public and will be announced at a later date, according to the team. Eagles running back AJ Dillon embraces mental challenges of chess to prepare for 'perfect' opportunity
A.J. Dillon wants to make a good impression when he takes the field with the reigning Super Bowl champions on Sept. 4. The running back spent his first five years in the NFL with the Green Bay Packers, sharing touches with Aaron Jones for most of his tenure. Dillon missed the 2024 season with a neck injury, but the Philadelphia Eagles signed him in free agency - and it is obvious to see why he joined the Birds. "Coming off a Super Bowl, best offensive line in football, Saquon [Barkley]'s a guy I've known for a long time, so it really worked out perfect," Dillon told Fox News Digital in a recent interview. "I'm loving my role there, getting to know my teammates, Philly's a great city, they got awesome fans, food's great, football's great, and it's a great city. It's awesome to be out there, and I'm looking forward to the season." However, earlier this month, in an effort to fire up his mind before heading to training camp, Dillon joined several other NFL stars, including Justin Herbert, Kyler Murray and eventual winner Justin Reid in the BlitzChamps tournament. Reid also won the tournament last year. Dillon's results were not what he was hoping for, saying, "there's some chess sharks in the league," but he added the game of chess is an ideal mental warm-up for football. "I think the mental piece in football is such a big thing. I think when you talk about what sets people apart, because obviously, everybody's talented at the college level, and at the NFL, everyone's big and strong, but it's that mental piece," Dillon continued. "How quickly can you gather information? How can you think back into the scouting report, and so forth? "You can only do so much football, so still trying to challenge your mind, but also get your mind off of football. Chess is a great way, and trying to stimulate the mind in different ways, chess does that in a way where you're really thinking strategically, and there's a lot of correlations between chess and football, I think." Dillon was also able to raise money for his charity, which he started last year. "Being able to not only play chess and have fun, but also be able to have extra money to donate to a great cause like everybody else will be able to do for whatever they represent this is a huge blessing in itself," he added. The competitive nature in Dillon will not let him phone it in after one subpar tournament appearance, either. "Next time, I'll be a lot better. It definitely made me hungry. I'm a competitor," Dillon said. "It's OK, my first time. I know what the competition is like, so I gotta step it up. I got the app downloaded on the phone, so when I got some down time, definitely will play some exhibition matches and things like that. Definitely looking at shake up the tables next year."
