Gloucester rail users warned of three-week track closure

Planned improvements include:Track renewal and drainage support near Newham TunnelStabilisation of the slopes beside the tracksVegetation management and litter clearances at Chepstow and Lydney stationsMore than 7,000 rock anchors to help stabilise structures and 32,000 square metres of netting to prevent debris falling onto tracks and causing disruptions.Network Rail added online journey planners will be updated ahead of the works, and station staff will be available to assist passengers.

CHANCELLOR Rachel Reeves cut costs with a break at a £49-a-night caravan park — where she enjoyed pizza and a Mad Hatter's tea party. Ms Reeves, 46, stayed for one night with her family — and paid for it herself. She was at the Haven Kent Coast holiday park in Allhallows, near Rochester — a site which used to be popular with Sun readers in our £9.50 hols offer. A source said: 'She enjoyed a run along the coast and an Aperol Spritz and pizza whilst watching the Mad Hatter's tea party in the Marina Bar with her family. 'She is already looking to book her next holiday there.' The site, an hour's drive from London, has an entertainment venue, an adventure village with sporting activities, indoor and outdoor swimming pools and an estuary beach. It even has its own newly opened Wetherspoon pub. The park employs 450 people from March to New Year and has more than 1,100 pitches. She saw work on a £10million leisure facility with aqua play area and water slide, which are under construction. The mum of two also visited the pub, was given a tour of new homes and met guests and staff. Ms Reeves said Haven's investment in the site showed businesses were confident in the state of the economy. Raising taxes will kill off growth, Reeves warned as she pledges to rip up business red tape Once her official business was done, Ms Reeves and her family stayed the night at the Chancellor's own expense. Haven said: 'We wouldn't be able to confirm or deny if Ms Reeves stayed. That's our policy with any guests.' Ms Reeves has demonstrated her thriftiness before. She takes her own lunch to the office and saves pastries from breakfast for later in the day. 1
