Anupam Kher Recalls Dilip Kumar's Witty Warning On Karma Set: 'Pathaan Ka Hath Hai...'
Anupam Kher reminisced about working with Dilip Kumar, who inspired his career. They collaborated on four films, with Karma being memorable.
Veteran actor Anupam Kher recently shared fond memories of working with the late Dilip Kumar, a legend he credits as the reason he pursued acting. During a recent appearance on Aap Ki Adalat, Kher talked about the profound influence the cinematic icon had on his life and career, and narrated moments from their collaboration on several films.
Kher and Dilip Kumar shared screen space in four films — Karma (1986), Kanoon Apna Apna (1989), Izzatdaar (1990), and Saudagar (1991). Among these, their first collaboration on Subhash Ghai's Karma remains especially memorable for Kher.
Recalling the first time he met Dilip Kumar on set, Kher said, 'I was already dressed as Dr. Dang at 7 am. Dilip sahab came to the set at 11 am. He got down from his white Mercedes in a white shirt. I kept looking at him. I thought, 'Wow, he's the guy why I became an actor.'"
Kher also listed Kumar's performances in films such as Madhumati (1958), Ram Aur Shyam (1967), Gopi (1970), and Devdas (1955) as key influences on his acting journey. 'I almost had my nose broken while buying tickets for Gopi in black," he recalled.
During the shoot of Karma, director Subhash Ghai noticed Kher's admiration and took him aside to warn him, 'Tu jis pyaar se inko dekh raha hai, tu mujhe marvaega! Tu meri film ka villain hai!" To this, Kher cleverly responded, 'Anupam Kher Dilip Kumar se pyaar karta hai, Dr. Dang Vishwa Pratap se pyaar nahi karta."
One of the standout moments he remembered was filming the iconic slap scene. In a bid to impress Kumar, Kher suggested he be slapped for real. But the legendary actor gently declined: 'Beta, Pathaan ka haath hai, behosh ho jaega." Later, Kumar praised Kher's performance, telling Ghai, 'A dangerous actor has arrived. He'll go a long way." Kher added, 'That moment gave me immense confidence."
He also shared a humorous incident involving apples, where a teasing Kumar spoke about 'Diminishing Marginal Utility" while Kher was simply hungry. 'I told him I'm enjoying it as much as I did the first one. Please stop this," he laughed.

"Can't Continue The Way I Used To": Popular Food Vlogger Steps Away From Long-Form YouTube Videos
Firoz Chuttipara, the face behind Kerala's popular Village Food Channel, has said that he will no longer be making long-format YouTube videos that first brought him fame. Known for his massive cooking projects, like preparing hundreds of kilos of biryani or seafood pickle, Chuttipara's unique blend of tradition, scale and social impact earned him a huge following among food lovers in India and beyond. The Palakkad native, who returned to Kerala after working abroad, turned to YouTube with a vision. It was to cook grand meals, often for underprivileged communities, and show the process from scratch. But in a recent YouTube Live session, Firoz shared that the economics of creating such large-scale content no longer add up. 'I can't continue with YouTube the way I used to,' he said, as quoted by News18. With audiences increasingly turning to shorter videos, like Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts, Firoz said that the shift in viewer behaviour has made long-form content financially unsustainable for creators like him. The limited earnings from short videos are not enough to offset the significant expenses involved in sourcing ingredients and handling large-scale production. Having said that, he clarified that while long videos will now be rare, short updates will continue to appear on his channel. View this post on Instagram A post shared by VILLAGE FOOD CHANNEL (@villagefoodchannel_official) Looking ahead, Firoz has decided to channel his energy into a new business venture with a friend. Although he has kept the details under wraps, he said that the venture will be based in the UAE and will require much of his time and attention going forward. Firoz's journey, from expatriate to one of Kerala's most recognised culinary YouTubers, has been remarkable. While fans may miss the epic cooking sessions that made him famous, many remain eager to see how his next chapter unfolds, whether in business or short-form food content.
