Agencies Anupam Kher Recalls Dilip Kumar: A Regal Presence, A Gracious Soul Veteran actor Anupam Kher recently revisited a deeply cherished memory from his career — working alongside the legendary Dilip Kumar. In a heartfelt conversation with Filmfare , Kher described the opportunity as extraordinary, likening it to collaborating with royalty. For him, acting with Kumar was a once-in-a-lifetime experience that few are lucky enough to recounted in vivid detail one unforgettable day on the set when Dilip Kumar arrived in majestic style. Around 11 a.m., a pristine white Mercedes pulled in. The first sight of Kumar was a leg clad in white trousers, slowly stepping out. According to Kher, his presence felt royal and commanding. The star requested tea, which was promptly served in elegant silverware accompanied by biscuits. By the time he had finished, the crew had already broken for lunch. All the while, Kher, in full costume, was eagerly rehearsing, hoping to deliver a performance that would impress the seasoned icon. " A white Mercedes arrived. One foot stepped out, wearing white trousers, then he emerged, just like a king. He said, 'Bring me tea,' and they served it in a silver kettle with biscuits. By the time he finished, it was lunchtime," he told Filmfare. Post-lunch, the superstar casually mentioned he needed rest. Kher, despite being eager to shoot, respectfully agreed, understanding that Kumar's demeanor commanded silent compliance. At about 3:30 p.m., Kumar decided to call off the day's shoot and proposed to continue the following day. Again, Kher simply nodded. The reverence Kumar evoked was undeniable—he had a quiet but absolute authority. Kher reflected on this, noting that while Kumar completed only around 60 films in a career spanning half a century, he himself had acted in over 545 films in 40 years. Yet Dilip Kumar remained the unmatched king of cinema in Kher's his commanding aura, Dilip Kumar remained considerate on set. After the scene, Kumar turned to Ghai and praised Kher, saying, "A dangerous actor has arrived. He will go a long way." This comment gave him new confidence. Anupam Kher and Dilip Kumar worked together in four major films—Karma (1986), Kanoon Apna Apna (1989), Izzatdaar (1990), and Saudagar (1991). Though brief, their professional association left an indelible mark on Kher's journey as an actor.

Anupam Kher Recalls Dilip Kumar's Witty Warning On Karma Set: 'Pathaan Ka Hath Hai...'
Last Updated: Anupam Kher reminisced about working with Dilip Kumar, who inspired his career. They collaborated on four films, with Karma being memorable. Veteran actor Anupam Kher recently shared fond memories of working with the late Dilip Kumar, a legend he credits as the reason he pursued acting. During a recent appearance on Aap Ki Adalat, Kher talked about the profound influence the cinematic icon had on his life and career, and narrated moments from their collaboration on several films. Kher and Dilip Kumar shared screen space in four films — Karma (1986), Kanoon Apna Apna (1989), Izzatdaar (1990), and Saudagar (1991). Among these, their first collaboration on Subhash Ghai's Karma remains especially memorable for Kher. Recalling the first time he met Dilip Kumar on set, Kher said, 'I was already dressed as Dr. Dang at 7 am. Dilip sahab came to the set at 11 am. He got down from his white Mercedes in a white shirt. I kept looking at him. I thought, 'Wow, he's the guy why I became an actor.'" Kher also listed Kumar's performances in films such as Madhumati (1958), Ram Aur Shyam (1967), Gopi (1970), and Devdas (1955) as key influences on his acting journey. 'I almost had my nose broken while buying tickets for Gopi in black," he recalled. During the shoot of Karma, director Subhash Ghai noticed Kher's admiration and took him aside to warn him, 'Tu jis pyaar se inko dekh raha hai, tu mujhe marvaega! Tu meri film ka villain hai!" To this, Kher cleverly responded, 'Anupam Kher Dilip Kumar se pyaar karta hai, Dr. Dang Vishwa Pratap se pyaar nahi karta." One of the standout moments he remembered was filming the iconic slap scene. In a bid to impress Kumar, Kher suggested he be slapped for real. But the legendary actor gently declined: 'Beta, Pathaan ka haath hai, behosh ho jaega." Later, Kumar praised Kher's performance, telling Ghai, 'A dangerous actor has arrived. He'll go a long way." Kher added, 'That moment gave me immense confidence." He also shared a humorous incident involving apples, where a teasing Kumar spoke about 'Diminishing Marginal Utility" while Kher was simply hungry. 'I told him I'm enjoying it as much as I did the first one. Please stop this," he laughed. First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. ‘Gulaab ki pankhuriyon pe sota tha': When Ravi Kishan recalled how he lost a role after Anurag Kashyap learned about his eccentric habits; expert on standing out
Many people have unique habits and beliefs, but some take it to an entirely different level, and actor Ravi Kishan may be one of them. The Laapata Ladies actor once admitted that he used to bathe in milk and sleep on rose petals, believing it was necessary for his stardom. 'Main doodh se nahata tha aur gulaab ki pankhuriyon pe sota tha. Mujhe aisa lagta tha ke main actor hoon aur yeh sab bahut zaroori hai (I used to bathe in milk and sleep on rose petals. I felt that I was an actor, and all of this was very necessary),' he shared in an old episode of Aap Ki Adalat. Influenced by Hollywood legends like Al Pacino and Robert De Niro, he thought such eccentric behaviour was a marker of artistic greatness. 'When people start showing you films of Al Pacino and Robert De Niro and tell you, 'This is how these actors did it, you should do the same'… They showed me The Godfather 500 times! And here I was, a desi artist. Anyway, all of this was just theatrics to create an aura. Mujhe lagta tha ke main doodh se naha ke jaunga toh yeh charcha rahegi ki yeh doodh se nahata hai (I used to think that if I bathed in milk before going out, people would talk about it, saying, 'He bathes in milk),' he confessed. This mindset, he claimed, even cost him a role in Gangs of Wasseypur. In an interview with Shubhankar Mishra on YouTube last year, he revealed that Anurag Kashyap had heard rumours about his extravagant lifestyle. Speaking in Hindi, he said, 'I used to bathe in milk. I used to enjoy it. Somebody told this to Anurag Kashyap. I am an eccentric, that's why I'm an artist. If I was a normal person, I would be working in an office, carrying a tiffin box to work. Anurag said that he didn't have the budget for my demands, and that's why I lost the film.' While some of the gossip about him was exaggerated, he admitted that certain parts were true. Psychologist Rasshi Gurnani tells 'People often develop eccentric habits or rituals, believing they're necessary for success or recognition, because it makes them feel unique or powerful. In industries like entertainment, where image is everything, individuals sometimes overcompensate by creating a larger-than-life persona.' A post shared by ViCharPod (@vi__char_pod) She adds, 'Bathing in milk or sleeping on rose petals may seem bizarre to outsiders, but for someone trying to stand out, it becomes a symbol of exclusivity. It's a way of saying, 'I'm not ordinary, I'm exceptional.' Over time, these habits become part of their identity, making it hard to let go — even when they're no longer practical. It's less about the habit itself and more about the validation it brings.' According to Gurnani, when people are constantly surrounded by influential figures and their lavish lifestyles, it starts shaping their own sense of self. In industries driven by fame and power, seeing others indulge in extravagance makes it feel like the norm. 'Subconsciously, people start mimicking those behaviours, believing that success is tied to how grand they appear. It's almost like living in a bubble where luxury becomes a measure of self-worth. The more exposure they have, the more they internalise the idea that being seen as rich or eccentric makes them more valuable or respected,' she observes. In a competitive field, Gurnani says, people sometimes feel they need to be unforgettable, even if it means being outrageous. 'It's the idea that the more bizarre or untouchable they seem, the more authority or allure they hold. For some, being different feels like a form of power — it makes them feel irreplaceable. Even if their behaviour seems over-the-top, it's often driven by the fear of being ordinary or forgotten,' she concludes.

The 60-year-old actor addressed his controversial 'dog' remark on King Khan and called it a 'childish' phase. Aamir said, 'Actually ek period tha jab Shah Rukh aur main ek dusre ke liye kaafi kuch bol rahe the. Shayad woh naakhush the mujhse. (Actually, there was a period when Shah Rukh and I were talking a lot about each other. Maybe he was unhappy with me.)' Aamir Khan calls Shah Rukh Khan a 'good friend' Furthermore, the Dangal actor mentioned that he and Shah Rukh now share a great bond and called him a 'good friend'. 'Anyway, let's leave all that behind. Shah Rukh is a good friend of mine. When our careers started, there was natural competition between us. But that faded away 10–15 years ago, at least from my side, and I think from his side as well. It was childish behaviour,' Aamir highlighted. Mr Perfectionist also recalled that Shah Rukh used to make fun of him in award shows. 'Shah Rukh aksar mujhpe mazak karta rehta hain naa har saal jab award function hota hai, main toh jaata nahi hoon. Toh har saal mazak woh mujhpe karte rehte hain (Shah Rukh often jokes about me every year during award functions, since I don't attend them. So every year, he keeps making fun of me.)' Know the 'Dog controversy' between Aamir Khan and Shah Rukh Khan For the unversed, Aamir used to write blogs in the 2010s. In one such blog, He wrote, 'Shah Rukh mere talwe chaat raha hai. Mai usse biscuit khila raha hun. Aur kya chahiye mujhe? (Shah Rukh is licking my feet. I am feeding him biscuits. What else do I need?)' Later, when the actor visited Aap Ki Adalat (India TV), he mentioned that he has a dog named after Shah Rukh Khan. The actor also mentioned that he bought the dog from a Parsi owner who had named it after the Bollywood actor. Though he narrated the story jokingly, it didn't sit well with SRK fans and the actor faced heat for his remark. Aamir also revealed that after realising his mistake, he visited Shah Rukh Khan and apologized to his children - Aryan Khan and Suhana Khan. Stay tuned to Pinkvilla for more.
