KOTA KINABALU: Parti Solidariti Tanahairku Deputy President Datuk Kenny Chua called on City Hall (DBKK) to investigate public complaints regarding ongoing construction activities at a mixed-development project at 88 Market in Kepayan. According to him, residents of the nearby Austral Park neighbourhood raised concerns to him about the prolonged construction hours, claiming that work often continued into the evening, causing significant disturbance to the community. Chua, who visited the area following the complaints, urged DBKK to clarify whether the current construction schedule complied with existing municipal bylaws. 'The GRS State Government welcomes development, but it must be carried out in a way that does not inconvenience the people,' he said. Subscribe or LOG IN to access this article.

Russia starts restricting some calls on Telegram and WhatsApp, Interfax says

MOSCOW (Reuters) -Russian authorities are taking measures to restrict some calls on Telegram and WhatsApp, the messaging app owned by Meta Platforms, Russia's Interfax news agency cited Russia's communications regulator Roskomnadzor as saying on Wednesday. Meta and Telegram did not immediately respond to requests for comment. President Vladimir Putin last month signed a law authorizing the development of a state-backed messaging app integrated with government services, as Russia strives to reduce its dependence on platforms such as WhatsApp and Telegram. Russia has long sought to establish what it calls digital sovereignty by promoting home-grown services. Its push to replace foreign tech platforms became more urgent as some Western companies pulled out of the Russian market after Moscow launched full-scale war in Ukraine. "In order to counteract are being taken to partially restrict calls on these foreign messengers," Interfax quoted Roskomnadzor as saying. "No other restrictions have been imposed on their functionality." Roskomnadzor said that the owners of both Telegram and WhatsApp had ignored repeated requests to take measures to stop their platforms being used for activities such as extortion and terrorism. Madius urges faster work on Tuaran road upgrade

Published on: Wednesday, August 13, 2025 Published on: Wed, Aug 13, 2025 Text Size: KUALA LUMPUR: Tuaran MP Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau ( pic ) has raised concerns in Parliament over delays in upgrading the road from the Berungis roundabout to Tuaran town. He noted that the Works Ministry had previously informed that physical works were scheduled to start in the second quarter of 2025, but visible progress has yet to be seen. In a written reply, the ministry said the project, officially launched on 12 March 2024, aims to widen 2.7 kilometres of Jalan Berungis (Route 503) into a four-lane dual carriageway, build a U-turn flyover, and replace an existing culvert with a new bridge. As of June 30, physical progress stood at 2.06 per cent, slightly below the 3.18 per cent target, due to land acquisition delays affecting preliminary works such as utility relocation. Madius has urged all agencies involved to expedite pending processes so that the long-awaited road upgrade can be completed on schedule for the benefit of Tuaran residents. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
