It has been popular hotspot with Ayrshire foodies for almost 30 years and the Loans Inn is set to continue that trend after a £200k revamp.
Ayrshire Live was invited along to try the new menu after the SimpsInns venue underwent reopened earlier this year.

Despite the renovations, the venue remains true to its heritage with a fresh feel given to the interior.
It was branded as a "stylish interior makeover" and the modern take on a traditional look helps create a warm, homely atmosphere which is echoed through the eclectic mix of furniture and ornaments adorning the shelves.
The decor reflects local culture and matches with the new menu which has Ayrshire weaved through it.
It all comes together with the mood lighting to create an ambience perfect for date night or a family dinner.
The new menu features Troon-landed langoustine scampi (F.V. Spes Bona, Troon Harbour) and roast Ayrshire hake as well as desserts including warm apple and pear toffee crumble with crème anglaise.

It caters to every taste with the standard and customisable burger options, choices of steak and salad bowls alongside gluten-free and vegetarian options.
The new menu also includes a curry of the week and pie of the week which provides a variety of options.

Jenna, the hostess, was attentive, friendly and accommodating. She made an effort to make every guest feel at home and took time to speak with everyone while her colleagues were equally helpful.
The food itself is well presented and meets every expectation from the generous portion sizes to the last flavoursome morsel on the plate.

Described as having a "bit of a nip", the curry of the week (buttermilk chicken) hit the spot and the fillet steak, cooked to perfection, was scrumptious.
All in all, it was an enjoyable experience with a memorable atmosphere and worth trying out, particularly if you've visited in the past.

Plans lodged to subdivide former Debenhams store in Ayr to make way for three new retail units

The department store has remained vacant since Debenhams fell into administration in December 2020. Three new retail stores could be coming to Ayr Central Shopping Centre, if proposals are approved. ‌ Ayrshire Live can reveal that plans have been lodged to subdivide the former Debenhams store on Luath Walk and Kyle Street. ‌ The department store has remained vacant since Debenhams fell into administration in December 2020. ‌ However, under a new plan the space would be subdivided to enable three new retail stores to come in and fill the void. Agent in the proposals is Edinburgh-based Savills (UK) Ltd and the applicant is Gelmo Limited. Their proposals relate to 'alterations and the subdivision' of the existing Class 1A retail unit (former Debenhams store) to create 'three separate Class 1A retail units'. Two of the new retail stores would be located on the ground floor, with the third business on the first floor. In correspondence with South Ayrshire Council, Savills said: 'The application site comprises a large, vacant retail unit formerly occupied by Debenhams with the Ayr Central Shopping Centre. The unit has dual frontage to Kyle Street and Luath Walk. ‌ 'The application proposals seeks permission for proposed alterations and subdivision of existing Class 1A retail unit to create three separate Class 1A retail units. 'The proposals will create three separate Class 1A retail units, two at the ground floor and one at the first floor. Given the existing Class 1A use of the existing unit, proposals are considered to wholly align with local and national planning policies.' It is unclear at this stage what type of retail units have been pencilled in as part of the proposals, although TK Maxx were part of an earlier planning application at the same site . ‌ In April, Ayrshire Live told how the discount retail giant lodged plans to erect signage at the former Debenhams store. The applicants, TJX Europe, also submitted proposals f or the installation of roof mounted plant and equipment and 'associated works.' Representing TK Maxx in those proposals were agents, Edinburgh-based CDA. At the time plans showed TK Maxx signage and proposals for the 'landlord' based on the ground floor with a 'tenant' on the upper floor. Those plans were approved by council planners.

Plans for community buyout of Ayrshire church gain momentum

The community in Girvan are looking to buy the vacant South Parish Church and turn it into an events space and a bunkhouse. Plans in Girvan to bring a disused church back into use for the benefit of the local community are gaining momentum. ‌ Community groups in the town have come together in a bid to try and purchase the former Girvan South Parish Church, also known as Church on the Green, after it closed last year. ‌ Built in 1839, it is the older of the two churches in the town but was recently deemed as surplus to requirements by the Church of Scotland. ‌ The building is still in good condition and the community are hopeful they can take it over and transform it an events space and a bunkhouse. Part of the inspiration for the idea is to fill the gap left by the closure of the Beach Pavilion and create a larger events space for the town so they can attract artists, travel theatre companies and other performers. ‌ The project is still in its early stages but feedback from most community groups in the town has been positive. A drop-in public consultation event is planned for the near future, date to be confirmed, to engage with the community and find out exactly they want from the facility. ‌ Download the Ayrshire Live app today The Ayrshire Live app is available to download now. Alan Jeans from Girvan Arts Festival, one of the community groups involved, said: "We have put together a group to try and purchase the disused South Parish Church in Girvan as a community venue for performances, functions and anything else where a large venue would be useful. ‌ "Girvan doesn't have a town hall, and the largest unrestricted venue at the moment holds around 130 people seated, or 90 with tables. "As a way of making it financially sustainable, we are proposing to convert one of the two church halls into bunkhouse accommodation for passing walkers and cyclists, etc. ‌ "The other hall will contain a catering grade kitchen and a suitably sized toilet block. "The project is called 'The South', but we are in the very early stages. There's no guarantee we will be successful in buying the buildings."

(Image: Alasdair MacLeod/Ayrshire Post ) East Ayrshire Council have confirmed the timescales for demolition work in Kilmarnock following the King Street fire. ‌ A number of businesses will remain closed until the weekend as work to demolish the most dangerous parts of the building has to take place before utilities companies can move in and restore water, electricity and gas supplies. ‌ Two phases of demolition are planned with phase one hoped to be completed by tonight, Friday. ‌ The council are hopeful that King Street can reopen after phase one. Ayrshire Roads Alliance (ARA) will move in after phase one to repair any damage to street lighting and the street surface. Phase two is expected to begin on Monday or Tuesday next week, July 21 or 22, and will involve work on the Sandbed Street side of the building. ‌ East Ayrshire Council have also confirmed that affected businesses can apply for a £10,000 grant following the fire. Some neighbouring businesses may also be eligible for a grant of £3,000. A spokesperson for East Ayrshire Council said: "Recovery work continues apace with demolition taking priority over the coming days. The demolition will be carried out in two phases. "This commenced on Thursday afternoon and whilst the front elevation was straightforward, the side elevation is less so, requiring some aspects to be undertaken by hand. ‌ "Indicative timescales suggest that this will be completed by Friday evening. When phase one has been completed, it is hoped that the exclusion zone can be reduced in preparation for reopening the street to the public. "When phase one has been completed, utility companies will be given access to all of the affected properties to reinstate power and water supplies. This will take some time and cannot commence until after the demolition. Download the Ayrshire Live app today The Ayrshire Live app is available to download now. Thereafter it will be up to individual retailers to determine when they can safely resume business. "The farmers market scheduled for Saturday morning can go ahead as planned, with additional traffic management in place. ‌ "All affected businesses in the demolished building can apply for £10k grant assistance from East Ayrshire Council. Other affected neighbouring businesses may be eligible for a £3k grant. "Full details will be launched next week, but businesses are encouraged to register interest as soon as possible.
