Homeowner taken aback after neighbor installs concerning trespass deterrent: 'She hates everything'
This homeowner had been feeding the birds in their yard for a while, but their neighbor made it more difficult. The post on the r/BackyardBird subreddit showcases some plastic bird spikes placed on the fence between the homeowner and their neighbor's houses by their neighbor, as a direct effort to deter birds that had been feeding.
"Feeders and water are within my property lines (live in the suburbs, so space is limited). My neighbor installed this on her fence. Lovely," the post reads.
"She hates everything so probably afraid I might scale the fence too," the poster said in a comment.
Bird deterrent spikes are commonly used to discourage birds from landing on particular surfaces by making them uncomfortable or even dangerous.
"That's [definitely] an Indication what your neighbor thinks about feeding the birds," one user pointed out on the post.
"Just screw some lovely perches and bird houses on to the fence on your side. It'll give great places for the birds and annoy your neighbor while doing nothing wrong," another user advises as a non-confrontational solution to the problem.

Cornyn presses FBI to help Texas bring back Democrats who left state
Texas Sen. John Cornyn (R) is pressing the FBI to intervene to help the GOP bring back the state House Democrats after they left on Sunday to stop Republicans from advancing its new congressional map. Cornyn sent a letter to FBI Director Kash Patel on Tuesday urging the agency to take 'any appropriate steps' to help law enforcement find or arrest the lawmakers who left the state to deny the state House quorum and prevent it from being able to conduct business in the special legislative session that Gov. Since some Texas Democrats left for other states like Illinois and New York, Cornyn said the Texas Department of Public Safety may need help in tracking them down and arresting them. Texas state law institutes a $500 fine per each day the lawmakers intentionally don't attend the special session. Abbott has also ordered an investigation into whether they have violated bribery laws in accepting assistance from others to cover the cost of the fines. Cornyn echoed those bribery concerns. He said this matter is time-sensitive, as Abbott called a 30-day special session to vote on the new redistricting map, which could net Republicans five additional seats in the U.S. House in the 2026 midterms. Cornyn didn't mention the redistricting effort in the letter but cited that the legislature needs to address the recent flooding that happened in Texas, which claimed more than 100 lives. 'These legislators have committed potential criminal acts in their rush to avoid their constitutional responsibilities and must be fully investigated and held accountable,' Cornyn told Patel. UPDATE: Springfield's 6th Street, Oberlin Ave reopen after crash
Update at 5:30 p.m. The intersection of 6th Street and Oberlin Avenue has reopened, SPD Lieutenant Tim Jenkins told WCIA. SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — A Springfield intersection is currently shut down due to a crash Thursday afternoon. The crash involved two vehicles at the intersection of 6th Street and Oberlin Avenue. Springfield Police Lieutenant Tim Jenkins told WCIA that while there are conflicting witness statements, the crash appears to have been caused by a car that was driving north on 6th Street at a high rate of speed. That car collided with another car that was crossing Oberlin Avenue, Jenkins said. 3rd teen arrested in Champaign shooting that left a 14-year-old with 'potentially life-threatening' injuries Three people were taken from the scene with injuries, Jenkins added. All of them are expected to be ok. The cars also crashed into a utility pole, but Jenkins said it was only an ancillary pole. CWLP crews have already disconnected the wires from it. The intersection of 6th and Oberlin will be closed for at least another hour while the crash scene is cleaned up, Jenkins said.
