Bihar: Ex-police officer's son shoots himself, suicide note recovered
Patna: A 40-year-old man, son of a retired senior police officer, died by suicide on Friday. He shot himself with a country made pistol after an alleged argument with his wife in Bihar's capital, Patna police said.
Police have recovered a suicide note from his apartment.
The son of a former deputy superintendent of police, who was unemployed, reportedly often argued with his wife over his drinking habits. 'After a dispute at night, the victim, the only son of retired DSP committed suicide by shooting himself with an illegal firearm,' Kotwali station house officer (SHO) Rajan Kumar said.

Kumar added that the family members took the man to a hospital, where the doctors declared him dead on arrival. The hospital informed the police.
The Kotwali police are investigating the matter. The body was sent for postmortem.
'Preliminary inquiry suggests the deceased used an illegal firearm to shoot himself. A probe is underway. The reason behind taking this extreme step is yet to be known,' Kumar said.

Andhra Pradesh police bust ganja smuggling bid, seize 370 kg cannabis
The Andhra Pradesh police seized around 370 kg of dry cannabis from Anakapalli district. Three held for cheating investors of crores in separate fraud cases in Odisha
CUTTACK: The Crime Branch of Odisha Police has arrested three persons in two separate cases for their alleged involvement in duping crores of rupees from investors through investment fraud. While 48-year-old Ganesh K Setty, a native of Bengaluru, was arrested for his alleged involvement in duping a retired CRPF officer of over Rs 1.03 crore, the other two Swapnil Goraksha Dhokale and Azaz Shafiq Shaikh, belonging to Maharashtra, were held on charges of cheating a Bhubaneswar-based doctor of over Rs 6.04 crore. In the first case, the victim, a retired Bhubaneswar-based CRPF officer, had lodged a complaint in April last year alleging some fraudsters had persuaded him to invest in IPO and OTC trading on the promise of being provided higher returns. The complainant reportedly transferred around Rs 1.03 crore but when he attempted to withdraw the money, the accused allegedly demanded more money to release his investment sum. Basing on his complaint, the Crime Branch team analysed the transaction details and digital evidences and eventually nabbed Setty from Bengaluru. He was brought on transit remand to Cuttack on Tuesday. Meanwhile, police began investigation into the second case after receiving complaint from the victim doctor. He alleged some unknown persons lured him to invest in IPO and OTC trading on the pretext of receiving lucrative returns and he transferred over Rs 6.04 crore in multiple phases. The accused were nabbed and brought on transit remand to Cuttack. They were produced in the SDJM Court in Bhubaneswar.

Speeding car kills student, injures another near Hero Honda Chowk
A 23-year-old law student died, and his friend was critically injured after a speeding car mowed them down on the service lane of the Delhi-Jaipur Expressway near Hero Honda Chowk around 3.30am on Tuesday, police said. An FIR was registered at the Sector 37 police station under Sections 106 (causing death by negligence) and 281 (rash driving) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. (HT Photo) The deceased, Harsh Singhal, a resident of Om Vihar in Sector 23, was a second-year LLB student at a local college. His friend Abhishek Kumar, also 23 and a resident of Shanti Nagar in Sector 11, sustained multiple fractures and remains in critical condition, police added. According to investigators, the two friends had stopped for snacks at Chanchal Hotel on the expressway and were chatting near the metal guard rail when a white Skoda Rapid — bearing a Hisar registration — came speeding down the service lane, rammed the guard fence, and struck both men. 'Singhal was crushed between the metal guard and the car, while Kumar was flung several feet away,' said a senior police officer. Commuters alerted the police and rushed both victims to the Sector-10A civil hospital, where doctors declared Singhal dead. Kumar was later shifted to a private hospital for surgery and was stable (?). The incident was captured on CCTV, and a commuter who witnessed the crash reportedly chased the vehicle for several kilometres, recording a video that clearly shows the registration number, said Sandeep Kumar, PRO, Gurugram Police. 'We have strong leads, and the suspect will be arrested soon,' he added.
