Upon finding Balkrushna, his mother, his brother and his uncle sleeping at their home in Patil Vasti in Loni Kalbhor on June 29, 2016, Gund brutally attacked them with a stick, inflicting serious injuries.Gund attacked Balkrushna over a dispute regarding vicitm's refusal to end relationship with a girl, who did not belong to their community. On July 7, Balkrushna succumbed to multiple head injuries while recuperating at the Sassoon General Hospital.

Victim's family members survived. Gund has been lodged at the Yerawada Central Prison since his arrest on July 9, 2016.The judge sentenced the assailant to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and fined him Rs 3,000 for attempting to murder the victim's mother, Manda Dhas (55), her son Amol (20), and her brother Bala Gavade (23). The assailant was also sentenced to five years of imprisonment and fined Rs 1,000 for trespassing into the victim's residence. All the sentences will run concurrently. The district legal service authority was directed to grant suitable compensation to the victim's family.Additional public prosecutor Javed Khan relied on the evidence of 16 witnesses, mainly the three injured victims, and the extra-judicial confession given by the assailant to prove his guilt in the crime. The judge noted that the assailant's intention to commit murder was well established, as there was no provocation on the part of the hapless victim.After the verdict, deputy commissioner of police (Zone IV) Rajkumar Shinde announced a reward of Rs 10,000 to pairvi officer Lalita Kanawade from the Loni Kalbhor police for training the witnesses on how to correctly depose before the court. The victim's family, upon hearing the verdict, broke into tears and bowed down with folded hands to thank the presiding officer for expediting the trial. They also feted Khan and Kanawade for securing the conviction of the accused.

Neither the Finance Minister nor the government has launched or backed any such scheme. The clips are an attempt to mislead the public and lure them into fraudulent investments. NIA raids 9 locations in Tamil Nadu: Ramlingam murder case; probe intensifies
NEW DELHI: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday conducted searches at nine places in Tamil Nadu in connection with the Ramlingam murder case. Raids are currently underway at eight locations in Dindigul and one in Tenkashi district following information received about several suspects, officials said. The case was initially registered by the local police after members of the now-banned Popular Front of India (PFI) hacked Ramalingam to death in Thanjavur district of Tamil Nadu in February 2019, after he opposed their forcible religious conversion efforts. The NIA, which took over the case in March 2019, had in August 2019 chargesheeted 18 accused, of whom six were absconding and had been declared Proclaimed Offenders (POs). During the investigation, the agency discovered that Mohammed Ali Jinnah had housed all the accused in a cottage. Jinnah was arrested in November 2024, while three of the absconding POs were apprehended on different occasions between 2021 and January 2025. Authorities are searching for the remaining three absconders, each of whom carries a reward of Rs 5 lakh for information leading to their arrest. Proceedings dropped as Odisha govt provides compensation
CUTTACK: The Orissa High Court on Tuesday dropped contempt proceedings against the state Home department including the additional chief secretary, Home Satyabrata Sahu over non-compliance of its earlier order to pay Rs 5 lakh compensation in the case of custodial death of Makhunu Bag of Dekulba village in Bargarh district. Makhunu had gone missing after he went to the Bheden police station to inquire about his son's whereabouts on July 17, 2015. His skeleton was recovered from the Panichhapar jungle near the Metakani temple in Subarnapur district on September 24 the same year. After investigation, police personnel including the OIC of Bheden police station were arrested and forwarded to court on murder charges. The case is pending before the trial court. The single judge bench of Justice SK Panigrahi dropped the contempt proceeding after it was submitted on the state government's behalf that the court's March 28, 2024, order had been complied with. The petitioner's counsel Prabir Kumar Das also confirmed that legal heirs of Makhunu Bag had received the Rs 5 lakh compensation amount on August 18, 2025.
