Cong divided over offering key posts to BRS turncoats
Some senior party leaders are ruling out the possibility of the turncoats being appointed to key party positions, such as working presidents. However, there is pressure within the party to offer one or two cabinet posts to the turncoats in order to retain them in the Congress fold.
The 10 turncoat MLAs largely remained silent despite the BRS leadership moving the Supreme Court seeking directions to the Speaker to act on their disqualification petitions.
They have stayed with the Congress despite ongoing uncertainty over by-elections in their constituencies.
The 10 BRS MLAs who joined the Congress after the 2023 Assembly elections are — Kadiyam Srihari (Station Ghanpur), Danam Nagender (Khairatabad), Tellam Venkat Rao (Bhadrachalam), Pocharam Srinivas Reddy (Banswada), M Sanjay Kumar (Jagtial), Kale Yadaiah (Chevella), Bandla Krishna Mohan Reddy (Gadwal), Prakash Goud (Rajendranagar), Arekapudi Gandhi (Serilingampalli), and Gudem Mahipal Reddy (Patancheru).

Of these, only Banswada MLA and former Telangana Legislative Assembly Speaker Pocharam Srinivas Reddy has been appointed as the advisor to the state govt on agriculture.
However, the ruling Congress house is divided over offering cabinet berths or working president posts to the defectors. A section of Congress seniors believes there is already an ongoing rift between Congress and turncoat camps in the constituencies, which the party leadership has failed to resolve so far.
Another section, however, does not object to giving the turncoats important posts like vice-president. In fact, there is a talk within Gandhi Bhavan circles about reviving 'Operation Akarsh' to rope in more BRS MLAs and leaders into the Congress, especially following the recent 'feedback letter' by BRS MLC K Kavitha to her father and BRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao. Some argue that unless the party actively courts these defectors, BRS leaders might instead look towards the BJP.
A senior AICC leader said the party high command will take the final decision as names of some of the turncoat MLAs have been submitted to them for consideration in the cabinet and also for the party posts. For example, leaders like MLA Danam Nagender joined the BRS from the Congress, only to come back to the grand old party fold. Turncoats with prior links to the Congress may be considered by the AICC, the leader said.

Loss of face, but AAP prevents more damage by withdrawing land pooling policy
Jalandhar: Though it is a loss of face for the Aam Aadmi Party govt and the biggest U-turn so far, by withdrawing the Land Pooling Policy, the ruling party prevented more damage to itself. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now As the opposition to the policy grew bigger with every passing day, it became oxygen for the opposition parties, especially for Congress and Akali Dal, as well as for all the critics of the state govt. On Punjabi social media, the state govt and the ruling party completely lost the narrative on the issue, as even their own were not coming forward to justify it. When the state govt has been discrediting farm groups and the latter also lost space due to their own flaws and follies, after the big victory of making the Modi govt to withdraw the three farm laws, the policy made the badly divided farm groups to unite. When AAP is known for strong discipline and every leader and worker has to follow the instruction by the party's central command, yet the MLAs and constituency in-charges, in whose areas the villages were coming under the scheme, did not dare to go to the villages to explain it to the people or to post their own statements on their social media accounts. They confined themselves to sharing the posts of the party's social media accounts. No social or economic group came forward to defend the policy even as the fault lines, subtle or explicit, exist. No party worker on the ground was ready to go among the people to justify the policy, especially after two party workers suffered the ignominy of being confronted by the farmers in Jalandhar village Kot Kalan on the night of July 24, their publicity material taken away and torched. The fear only increased among party workers as there was no dearth of videos on Punjabi social media where men and women from the affected villages issued warnings of serious physical consequences if anybody entered their villages. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Hoardings were in the affected villages 'banning' entry of AAP leaders. From among the senior party leaders, only Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, State President Aman Arora, Finance Minister Harpal Cheema, Industries Minister Sanjeev Arora, and MP Meet Hayer appeared more vocal in justifying the policy, while other ministers and MLAs preferred to stay silent. More than the farmers, the withdrawal of the policy has come as a big relief for the AAP leaders and workers, especially in the rural areas. They found themselves in a piquant situation, as on one side the Delhi-based party leadership strongly pushed the policy, but on the other, the intensity of the negative reaction increased. Govt scared after Rahul Gandhi's revelations, EC must respond: Former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda
Chandigarh: Former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Monday said the BJP govt is scared by the revelations of fake voters made by the leader of opposition Rahul Gandhi. He added that this fear is why the govt is trying to suppress peaceful protests by the opposition. "The way police detained opposition leaders who marched to the Election Commission office on Monday clearly shows that the govt has abandoned accountability and has resorted to dictatorship. Congress strongly condemns this undemocratic action," Hooda stated. Responding to questions from journalists in Delhi, Hooda said Rahul Gandhi revealed fake voters with proper evidence. "It was the responsibility of the Election Commission to answer it with facts, but the commission is busy threatening the complainant instead," he added. Hooda said the Election Commission is completely working as a part of the BJP govt. "The commission is now issuing notices and asking Rahul Gandhi for answers, instead it should answer how so many fake votes were added to the voter list. This is a clear attempt to divert attention from the real issue," he said, adding that the commission should explain how the election results of the entire country, including Maharashtra and Haryana, came against the wishes of the people. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Dermatologist: Just Add 1 Drop Of This Household Item To Any Dark Spot And Wait 3 Minutes Undo He said it is clear from the results of Haryana that the public opinion was cheated here. "Rahul Gandhi has also mentioned Haryana in his disclosure. Everyone saw how after voting in Haryana, the Election Commission repeatedly changed the voter turnout figures for three consecutive days, whereas the final figures should have come by late evening on the day of voting," he stated. "Not only this, the figures of the last five elections show that the govt in Haryana has always been formed by the party that won in the postal ballot, but this time the opposite happened. Congress got a huge majority in 74 seats in the postal ballot, but BJP won in the EVM counting. Therefore, Congress has also demanded that elections should be held on ballot paper. If elections can be held on ballot papers in countries like America and Germany, then why not in India?" he asked.
