KCR holds meeting after SC judgement on MLAs disqualification petitions; KTR asks party ranks to work for by-polls
Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has welcomed the Supreme Court judgement in the case of 10 party MLAs joining the ruling Congress party, asking the Speaker of the Telangana Legislative Assembly to complete the proceedings over the petitions filed seeking disqualification of the 10 MLAs. The 10 BRS MLAs who joined the Congress are Danam Nagender; Kadiyam Srihari; Tellam Venkat Rao; Pocharam Srinivas Reddy; M. Sanjay Kumar; Kale Yadaiah; Bandla Krishnamohan Reddy; T. Prakash Reddy; Arekapudi Gandhi and Gudem Mahipal Reddy. Working president of the party K.T. Rama Rao said in a statement following the verdict on Thursday (July 31, 2025) that the judgement had proved once against that the democratic system was vigilant in the country despite some elected representatives taking the wrong path. He expressed hoped that All India Congress Committee (AICC) leader and Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi too would welcome the verdict since it was he — as part of the 'Paanch Nyay' promise made in the Congress party's election manifesto for the Lok Sabha elections — who was vocal for automatic disqualification of elected representatives in case of their defection. In case he was sincere about his commitment towards the promise, he must ensure that the 10 MLAs were disqualified. The BRS leader said there was no need for any further inquiry into matter since the 10 MLAs regularly participated in the ruling party programmes. The BRS would get ready for the by-elections in the 10 constituencies and he asked the party ranks to work for it. The party president and former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao had meeting with Mr. Rama Rao, T. Harish Rao, G. Jagadish Reddy and others at his Erravelli farmhouse following the Supreme Court judgement. Meanwhile, party Whip in the Assembly K.P. Vivekanand and party general secretary Soma BharAth Kumar said speaking to newspersons that the petitions against the 10 MLAs were pending with the Speaker for about 18 months now. They termed the Supreme Court judgement as historical and said it was a slap for the Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy who had said in the Assembly that by-elections would be held for 10 seats, when the matter was pending in the Apex Court. The BRS leaders said that any delay in disposing of the disqualification petitions within three months by the Speaker would amount to contempt of court, as stated by the Supreme Court itself in its judgement making it clear that it was for the Speaker who must act on the petitions.

SC directs Telangana Speaker to decide on disqualification petitions against 10 MLAs within three months
The Supreme Court on Thursday (July 31, 2025), in a judgment, directed the Telangana Assembly Speaker to decide the disqualification petitions against 10 MLAs who shifted allegiance to the ruling Congress party in the State, as early as possible, and not exceed three months at any cost. The judgment was delivered by a Bench headed by Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai. The court ordered the Speaker should draw adverse inference against any MLA who tries to delay the disqualification proceedings. The apex court urged the Parliament to review the disqualification proceedings under the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution, saying Assembly Speakers tend to delay the process due to latent political considerations and to protect the MLAs under question, posing a danger to the democratic framework. The disqualification petitions were filed the Bharat Rashtriya Samiti (BRS) before the Telangana Assembly Speaker in March-April 2024. Danam Nagender, Kadiyam Srihari, Tellam Venkat Rao, Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, Kale Yadaiah, M. Sanjay Kumar, Krishnamohan Reddy, Mahipal Reddy, Prakash Goud, and Arekapudi Gandhi, originally elected on BRS ticket switched to Congress. The BRS moved Supreme Court in January citing the lack of action from the Speaker and Legislature Secretary, noting that even preliminary notices were not issued to the defected MLAs.

Cong divided over offering key posts to BRS turncoats
Hyderabad: None of the 10 BRS turncoat MLAs were named in the five TPCC committees announced by the AICC on Thursday. However, GHMC Mayor Gadwala Vijayalakshmi and her father, K Keshava Rao — both of whom also defected from the BRS to the Congress — were named in the delimitation committee and veterans and seniors advisory committee, respectively. Some senior party leaders are ruling out the possibility of the turncoats being appointed to key party positions, such as working presidents. However, there is pressure within the party to offer one or two cabinet posts to the turncoats in order to retain them in the Congress fold. The 10 turncoat MLAs largely remained silent despite the BRS leadership moving the Supreme Court seeking directions to the Speaker to act on their disqualification petitions. They have stayed with the Congress despite ongoing uncertainty over by-elections in their constituencies. The 10 BRS MLAs who joined the Congress after the 2023 Assembly elections are — Kadiyam Srihari (Station Ghanpur), Danam Nagender (Khairatabad), Tellam Venkat Rao (Bhadrachalam), Pocharam Srinivas Reddy (Banswada), M Sanjay Kumar (Jagtial), Kale Yadaiah (Chevella), Bandla Krishna Mohan Reddy (Gadwal), Prakash Goud (Rajendranagar), Arekapudi Gandhi (Serilingampalli), and Gudem Mahipal Reddy (Patancheru). by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo Of these, only Banswada MLA and former Telangana Legislative Assembly Speaker Pocharam Srinivas Reddy has been appointed as the advisor to the state govt on agriculture. However, the ruling Congress house is divided over offering cabinet berths or working president posts to the defectors. A section of Congress seniors believes there is already an ongoing rift between Congress and turncoat camps in the constituencies, which the party leadership has failed to resolve so far. Another section, however, does not object to giving the turncoats important posts like vice-president. In fact, there is a talk within Gandhi Bhavan circles about reviving 'Operation Akarsh' to rope in more BRS MLAs and leaders into the Congress, especially following the recent 'feedback letter' by BRS MLC K Kavitha to her father and BRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao. Some argue that unless the party actively courts these defectors, BRS leaders might instead look towards the BJP. A senior AICC leader said the party high command will take the final decision as names of some of the turncoat MLAs have been submitted to them for consideration in the cabinet and also for the party posts. For example, leaders like MLA Danam Nagender joined the BRS from the Congress, only to come back to the grand old party fold. Turncoats with prior links to the Congress may be considered by the AICC, the leader said.
