Danish train moving at ‘relatively high speed' when it hit farm truck

COPENHAGEN - Danish police said on Aug 16 that an express train that hit a farm truck killing one person and injuring 27 was travelling at a 'relatively high speed' when the collision happened. The drivers of the train and the truck are both among the critically injured from the Aug 15 accident on a railway crossing at Bjerndrup in south-west Denmark. A 60-year-old woman was killed and five of the 27 injured are in critical condition, police said. The train was travelling from Copenhagen to the western town of Sonderborg. The truck carrying agricultural waste was crossing the railway at a point where there was no barrier, according to police. The train was travelling at 'a relatively high speed' at the time of the accident, police told a press conference. The investigation would determine whether the light and sound signals at the crossing had worked at the time of the collision, authorities said. Top stories Swipe. Select. Stay informed. Semenyo thankful for support as police arrest man on suspicion of racial abuse

Semenyo was targeted by a man in the crowd during the first half, with referee Anthony Taylor stopping play to address the incident. Taylor spoke to both managers and captains before play resumed. Merseyside Police said a 47-year-old man had been ejected from Anfield. On Saturday, they confirmed the man from Liverpool had been arrested on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence and taken into custody to be interviewed. "Last night at Anfield will stay with me forever - not because of one person's words, but because of how the entire football family stood together," Semenyo wrote on Instagram. "To my Bournemouth teammates who supported me in that moment, to the Liverpool players and fans who showed their true character, to the Premier League officials who handled it professionally - thank you. "Football showed its best side when it mattered most. With Liverpool leading 2-0, Semenyo then netted twice in the second half to level the score before the home side struck two late goals to win 4-2. "Scoring those two goals felt like speaking the only language that truly matters on the pitch," Semenyo added. "This is why I play - for moments like these, for my teammates, for everyone who believes in what this beautiful game can be. "The overwhelming messages of support from across the football world remind me why I love this sport. We keep moving forward, together." Bournemouth coach Andoni Iraola said it was a "big shame that these things keep happening", while captain Adam Smith was shocked by the abuse. "Totally unacceptable, kind of in shock it happened in this day and age. I don't know how Ant has carried on playing and come up with these goals" Smith told Sky Sports. "He's a little bit down - something needs to be done. Taking a knee has taken no effect. We've supported him and hopefully he'll be OK. "I wanted him to react (after scoring), that's what I'd have done. I'd have gone straight over there. It shows what kind of man he is to report it to the ref and carry on. Fair play to Ant." Semenyo also revealed that he had been racially abused online after the game. "When will is stop," he said, sharing a screenshot of a comment in which someone posted monkey emojis on his profile. ‘Universe's biggest blessing': Woman and friend assist neighbour to give birth at home

SINGAPORE – A routine evening at home turned into a life-changing moment on Aug 10 for Ms Latashni Gobi Nathan, when she and her best friend helped her next-door neighbour deliver a baby. While watching the post-National Day celebrations on the rooftop of their Punggol Housing Board block, the neighbour – Ms Leena – told others around them that she was having contractions, according to Ms Latashni, 35. Ms Leena then asked Ms Latashni and her husband to help care for her two daughters if she needed to head to hospital the next day, which they agreed. Ms Latashni, a senior assistant manager for communications, was then having dinner with her husband and her friend at their home when Ms Leena's husband, Mr Zuk, suddenly approached the couple for help at about 10.15pm. 'I ran over and saw Leena kneeling near the entrance, having painful contractions,' she said. Ms Latashni stepped in to help her neighbour, together with her friend Sangeetha, who is a mother. Within minutes, Ms Leena's water bag burst and the baby girl arrived soon after, at around 10.30pm, with Mr Zuk helping to pull the newborn out safely. 'It felt like an hour, but it was just 15 minutes,' said Ms Latashni, who does not have children. Top stories Swipe. Select. Stay informed. She and Ms Sangeetha helped to comfort the couple's older daughter and to clean up the flat, while the younger daughter was asleep. The paramedics helped to cut the baby's umbilical cord, and left after checking that both mother and baby were fine, according to Ms Latashni. She recounted this incident in an Instagram post on Aug 15, where she said that she and Ms Sangeetha 'found ourselves in the most remarkable, life-changing moment we have ever experienced'. She described the experience as 'the universe's biggest blessing' and said it forged an unbreakable bond between her family and her neighbours. Ms Latashni told The Straits Times that she and her husband have always been close to Ms Leena and her family, as they share a corner with only two units on their floor. 'For the past two years, we've cleaned and decorated our corridors together, and even planned to change our gates at the same time,' she said. 'They trusted us without question – and this incident really took the relationship to the next level.' She added that the experience has made her reflect on the importance of neighbourly ties. 'In Singapore we're always in a rush, or don't want to communicate. But if you think of the big picture, the meaning of life is to have people around you. This showed me how important it is to just be a bit more friendly and kind – you never know what blessings you'll receive.' Adding to the joy, Ms Latashni has since been named godmother to the newborn. 'The sweetest part? I'm now officially Godma to this little princess,' she wrote in the Instagram post.
