SSC results: PCMC to award meritorious students
The impressive results of students from schools run by the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) in the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) Class 10 examination conducted by the Maharashtra state board has underscored the success of steps undertaken by the civic administration towards school education.
According to civic officials, this year, 2,597 students appeared for the SSC exam conducted by the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE). Among them, 2,155 students from Marathi-medium schools appeared, and 1,966 passed. Of the 442 students from Urdu-medium schools, 432 were successful.
PCMC will reward top-performing students with financial incentives, according to statement released by PCMC.
Shekhar Singh, municipal commissioner, PCMC, said, 'The 97.74% pass rate among Urdu-medium students is especially encouraging.'
As per officials, 18 students who scored 90% and above will be awarded ₹1 lakh, 62 (85%-89.99%) students will get ₹50,000 and 95 students (80%-84.99%) will receive ₹25,000 each. Besides, seven disabled students will each receive ₹50,000 for their SSC results.

Kottayam school welcomes student from Afghanistan
Kottayam: A surprise was in store for all at the pravesanolsavam at one of the oldest LP schools in the state on Tuesday. Among the 16 students that joined class one at the govt LP school, Mudiyoorkkara, was a native from Afghanistan. It was six-year-old Behsa Karimi who walked into the classroom and, in no time, made friends with the rest of the students. Behsa is the eldest daughter of Mohammed Fahim Karimi, a native of Kabul, and Ellaha Sahir. Fahim, who arrived in Kottayam four years ago, is doing research in business studies at the MG University. The couple also has one younger boy named Bahar Karimi. Sindhu K, the headmistress of the school, said that there were students of many guest workers that used to study here. "It is for the first time a foreign student is studying in this school," she said. She also said that Behsa speaks English very well and the teachers are communicating with her in English. "Right now, we are communicating with her in English," she said. Apart from English, Behsa speaks Afghani and Urdu very well. "Last year, seven children of guest workers had joined Class I," said Shalini K Lakshmanan, another teacher. There are a total of four teachers in the school for Class I-IV, while two for nursery classes. "The family was staying near the school and that was the main reason why the child's parents chose this school," added Shalini. Behsa was welcomed by the teachers, led by the headmistress with flowers, as she walked into the school established in 1911, with her parents on Tuesday morning.

Children in govt. and aided schools get new sets of uniforms, books and stationery on the first day
After summer vacation, schools in Tiruchi welcomed students on Monday. On the first day of the new academic year, textbooks, notebooks, school bags, stationery, shoes, and two sets of uniforms were distributed to children in government and government-aided schools. A total of 7,79,101 textbooks, 8,65,401 notebooks, 1,33,928 sets of school uniforms, and 2,41,282 books were distributed to students of 1,297 government and 363 aided schools in Tiruchi this academic year. Collector M. Pradeep Kumar distributed textbooks, uniforms, and other items to students at Syed Murthuza Government Higher Secondary School here. In Perambalur, about 418 government and aided school students received 31,903 sets of uniforms, 52,071 notebooks and 53,877 books. A total of 36,301 students studying in Tamil medium and 5,048 in English medium from Classes 1 to 5 at 751 government and aided schools, and 73,827 Tamil medium students and 14,116 English medium students of Classes 6 to 12 studying at 140 schools in Karur district received textbooks and other school items on Monday. Textbooks, notebooks, school bags, shoes, socks, atlases, crayons, colour pencils, geometry boxes, and uniforms were distributed to the students. Collector P. Rathinasamy distributed textbooks, uniforms and other items to 462 students of Classes 6 to 12 at the Government Model Higher Secondary School in Asithinapuram in Ariyalur. As many as 1,32,155 textbooks, 95,086 notebooks, and 64,610 uniforms have been distributed to students studying in government and aided schools in Ariyalur district. About 34,448 pairs of socks were given to students from classes 6 to 10, 48,168 school bags for classes 6 to 12, 13,966 geometry boxes for classes 6 to 9, and 5,462 drawing books for class 6 students have been distributed to the students, said Mr. Rathinasamy. Earlier, officials conducted a meeting with the school heads and inspected the availability of textbooks and other school items. They ensured that the schools were cleaned and repair works were carried out on the premises to welcome the children after a month-long break.
